I had a meeting today in Starbucks (I love that there’s one just downstairs!) and wanted to get something from there since we were taking up their space. So, I went with China Green Tips. I can’t wait until my Starbucks gets the loose leaf bags: http://blogs.starbucks.com/blogs/customer/archive/2009/12/28/full-leaf-tea-lineup.aspx But I’m not sure how soon that will be. :/
Love at first taste! Never tasted matcha before, but now I want more. Had a medium size one tonight with no sugar syrup. Very tasty and very green. Smelled wheatgrassy to me, but tasted heavenly- sweet on it’s own no need for that syrup:) Will go back for this!
Real matcha doesn’t taste anything like this. Poorly executed in my opinion. At least they stopped putting melon syrup in it.
Really? What does it taste like- I’m curious now and really want to try the “real thing”. Is it hard to make yourself? I obviously have no clue about matcha and welcome any pointers :)
Rabbysmom, actully matcha is probably the easiest, fool poof tea. At least in my opinion:) 1.) Sift the desired amount of matcha (to get rid of clumps and make whisking easier) into your desired drinking vessle (I strongly suggest a matcha bowl, but that’s just me), Heat the desired amount of water and pour over your match. Whisk and enjoy! In my opinion, a matcha scoop makes measuring the matcha easier and the whisk makes it easier to whisk.
Other than how I’ve already described it in my tasting notes, it’s something I can’t really describe other than wonderful!" It is sweet, but more like other green teas can be sweet and not an artificial sweet. I’m still trying to wrap my head around its sweeTEAness myself!
Picked this up on my lunch break. Ehh. There is an off tasting ingredient…I’m guessing it is the citric acid. The only other ingredients are black teas and cane sugar. The citric acid really screwed this up. It’s that sour, artificial taste. Ick. I should have known better.
The glass bottle and top are pretty cool though.
Will never buy tazo bottled. Picked one up @ the airport cuz based on the name I never would have imagined it was sweetened. Ick. It’s a pain to have to hunt down the fine print.
“lightly sweetened” is in very small lettering on the label. I drank about half the bottle with lunch. That was enough…I’m tossing the rest and recycling the bottle. 20g of carbs if you drink the whole bottle…no thanks.
I don’t appreciate folks sweetening my drinks for me, but with that said, their Tazoberry bottled isn’t bad. I guess the berry overpowers the bitter.
I agree about the sweetening! I thought it might not be too bad since it was “lightly” sweetened, but I can’t stand sugar in my tea at all. I also am not a fan of the citric acid aftertaste! Yuck.
@Alannah- I’m w/ you on the citric acid! Adagio does not sweeten their iced teas but they do add citric acid (at least to the white tea that I got free) and it was nasty. Why is it put in anyway? Especially if it’s unsweetened that’s a great way to ruin perfectly wonderful tea.
I’ve never investigated why they put citric acid in. I assume there’s some “freshness” or “stability” reason (like most food additives), but it all but ruins anything it’s in for me! I bought some packaged pre-sliced apple pieces once, and even they had citric acid added (and were TERRIBLE). It’s horrible!
I’m trying to expand my horizons on tea (and chai especially), but I seem to come back to this one every time. I keep thinking the more expensive loose tea blends should be better than this out-of-a-box-get-it-at-any-grocery-store tea, but I have yet to find one that stands up to the Tazo Chai. The blend is the perfect balance of the black tea and the spices and it’s really really hard to brew it wrong. I’m still exploring the world of chai, but I’m beginning to feel I’ll have to travel to India to find a better one than this.
Preparation
Woke up to this today. Single serving bag was provided at the Bed & Breakfast we stayed at. Don’t normally drink this much caffeine, but it was what was available. Pretty standard black tea. Gave me some ZING and then I had my standard crash 3 hours later.
Ginger is great to have when feeling nauseous. Tazo’s Green Ginger is especially good, with the ginger taking a nice focus.
Even though I “never” sweeten my tea, once a holiday season I just have to have a tall double bag 2 pump ginger bread green ginger tea @ Starbucks.
hey y’all! I’m in Boston! (Know if any good tea places around here?) I spent the last few days running around trying to get ready, so I didn’t have much tea. However, yesterday I did manage to find this in a pyramid bag at my Starbucks. It actually looked like real tea!! & it was a bit better than average, too. So that’s good news.
I picked up 5 new teas at Tealuxe today… so many new tasting notes to come once I’m back home with my tea supplies!
Boston Harbour Tea, sometimes Boston Harbor Tea. Its more that just a tourist trap item, its really good tea. Its imported by Mark T. Wendell, but I know that I found it in tourist trap establishments around the Boston Harbor 20 years ago. It is a very good English Breakfast style blend, largely Ceylon teas. Can’t say enough good about it.
I had this at Border’s bookstore. I needed to get more energy in order to spend money. It gets really tiring when you walk around with your head tilted to the right. Anyway, I was suprised to see that this time the tea was loose leaf and placed in a mesh sleeve that could be easily pulled out from the cup. This was noticeably better thanthe bagged version. It also went well with the slice of pumpkin spice cake I had. I managed to get over $120 worh of books (and a U2 CD) while I only had $70 worth of gift cards on me. Can I blame the tea?
It’s a decent mint tea, although I’m also not able to taste the tarragon. Like many other Tazo teas it’s acceptable for when you don’t have something better. I suggest adding fresh mint in the cup when making it for additional strength.
~if you enjoy mintyness than this tea is for you :) You don’t get an over powering taste of it, but just give it a second…the burst of minty goodness follows shortly after your sip:) I prefer it this way b/c I am not a huge fan of mint flavored anything. But Tazo does a nice job of keeping it subtle but tasty!
The lattes that I have gotten (Earl Grey and Vanilla Rooibos) both had loose leaf tea bags in them. I had never gotten Tazo tea before so I just assumed that they always did whole leaf bags. Vanilla Rooibos=yummy and would be great just on it’s own not in a latte.
rabbysmom, those aren’t loose leaf bags in the lattes… they’re dust and fannings. Regular old teabags, at least at my Starbucks. I had the EG one not too long ago, and it was definitely a garden-variety teabag. The loose leaf bags are the new pyramid-style sachets, like Mighty Leaf, with whole leaves inside the bags.
Pretty cool news, though!
This is good to know for “emergencies” ;)
These were silky bags just like Mighty Leaf
Oooh! Then maybe your Starbucks got them in early? All I’ve ever gotten was a regular old teabag in my latte, unfortunately.
I was actually surprised when I looked at the tea bags:)
My Starbucks (across Winston-Salem, NC) have been using the pyramid ones in the 3 lattes for a while… but apparently Starbucks is replacing the tea bags for the non-latte teas as well… though I’ve yet to see any of those tea bags.
Aww, you guys are definitely super-lucky then. The one on 35th Street and Broadway in NYC is using classic teabags, string and all.
