Fudge Melts

This is my least favourite of the indulgant teas. Green tea just doesn’t suit it at all, black or oolong would have been a much better choice.

I don’t get any fudge/chocolate from this, but I do taste some generic creamy and sweet (condensed milk), lemon, floral notes, and something really difficult to place. I think it closely resembles incense or a scented candle shop? It is actually a bit off-putting. The flavours seem to conflict and have nothing to do with fudge.

The green base really comes through, it is vegetal, but also has floral notes and pepper?, something resembling seaweed/ocean. It is just such a weird mixture of flavours, what were they thinking with this blend?

This one just tastes generically sweet and creamy to me, not like fudge or chocolate. Which may be for the best; green tea and chocolate don’t strike me as a wonderful flavor combination. In fact, this blend has got a lot in common with Twinings’ Salted Caramel. And it really is quite sweet, bordering on excessively so. It’s okay, but definitely not something I’ll go out of my way to drink again.

This one sounds amazing, and I really, really hoped that it would taste equally wonderful. It…kind of does, and kind of doesn’t. I think green tea is an odd choice for the base here. It’s faintly grassy and vegetal, and it just doesn’t work all that well with fudge as a flavour. A black base would have been eminently more sensible, surely? Then there’s the fudge. This one smells a little artificial when it’s brewing, but it tastes better than that would suggest. It’s very heavy on the vanilla, which is all I can taste to begin with, and then there’s an almost thick-tasting butteriness that is kind of reminiscent of fudge (particularly with the vanilla…) It’s all just a little sweet and sickly, a bit overpowering, and sadly not really my thing. I’d so hoped it would be, but it’s just not quite right.

I bought a box of these last May when I was in England but then I never felt the urge to even try it so I ended up giving most of the box away. However, I kept a few teabags just to try and today I decided to make them up as a latte. Then I read it was best without milk so I grabbed one of the bags, threw it into a different cup and made one plain tea and one latte. When brewing, both just smelled artificial and off putting.

For the plain tea, it is hard to get passed the smell but if you try, there is a hint of creamy fudge. Alas, there is more than just a hint of green tea and it mixes with the weird smell to create the idea of butter (thick mouthfeel) that has soured just a bit.

The latte only bumps up the butter element and drowns out any semblance of the fudge. It also highlights the green tea more.

Both got poured out so I guess this was a pour down.

teas from MissB this one isn’t half bad – at least in the initial sips..it’s like a creamy fudge like tea…and then the green hits. I think this one would be vastly superior as a black tea…but i’m biased :)
