From 52teas

I had a little bit of a sweet tooth, so I decided it was time to bring the chocolate. Here it is, our premium Indian black teas blended with organic cacao nibs AND milk chocolate chips, walnuts and natural flavors. Yes, it is as delicious as it sounds.

OK … so I brewed another cup.

This is good… I can taste the walnut and the chocolate and it’s a nice combination with the black tea. It’s yummy and rich.

That being said, I think this blend would be better with a little bit of Assam in it (like the base for the blueberry cream cheese danish). It would offer a more substantial base and give it more of a bake-y, chewy kind of taste.

It would also be better with more chocolate. :) But… you probably already knew that suggestion was coming. Right?

Despite those thoughts, I really like this… and I’m off to write a review of this tea for the Tea Review Blog.

I suspect that this will be better in a couple of weeks. I think that the flavors need a little time to develop with the tea leaf.

Knowing this tea was waiting for me in the Breville this morning was the only thing that forced me out of bed.

It smells just like brownies. Taste is chocolatey, with a hint of the walnuts, and smooth black tea. Doesn’t quite taste like I just bit into a brownie, but it’s definitely not far from it. Perhaps a longer steep? Still, it’s quite delicious and I’m enjoying every drop.

Oh my! Chocolate for breakfast in a Breville. I’m oh so jealous!=D

Geoffrey Norman

It has the word “brownie” in it. I must have.

Jaime

Cofftea, you don’t have a One-Touch? It was life-altering for me. I can set the timer, literally roll out of bed, walk downstairs, and pour a cup of tea. Makes waking up so much less laborious.

Geoffrey, if you like fudge and walnuts, yes, you must. If you’d like, I can send a couple of cups’ worth your way.

Cofftea

Sadly, no. I can’t afford one. I also don’t like the lowest temp is 160 and time settings are 30 sec increments so that means I can’t (due to my personal preferences) use it for whites, pu erhs, and some Japanese greens- which is a lot of my stash. I guess they’re going to make some adjustments on the next model so I’m gonna wait.

Jaime

I begged for mine as a birthday/early Christmas present from my parents. They caved, and Dad has semi-jokingly commented that I need to get insurance on it (I travel with it when I visit them). I’d personally like a longer steeping time. It only goes as long as 10, and when I resteep teas, I’ve steeped as long as 15 minutes. I’d also like to be able to buy additional baskets, so that I don’t have to clean one out that I want to resteep just to have something different.

Cofftea

How long does the water stay at a given temp? Like if you want to steep the mango chili green bush for 10 min at boiling, is it still boiling after 10 min?

Jaime

I do steep the mango chili for 10, and whilst it’s not a rolling boil, it’s pretty close temperature-wise. I’ve not stuck a thermometer in after it’s done to check, though.

Cofftea

Could you just reset the timer when basket goes up and let it steep for another 5 or however long you want? I do that now anyway since the water cools too much.

Jaime

That’s usually what I do. Or I heat the water, and lower the basket without using the timer feature. Then I just use a regular timer, and raise the basket when it’s done.

Thanks LiberTEAs! I have been wanting to try this one since it came out and thanks to my SororiTEA Sister I was able to! :)

WOW! Just…WOW! In my loose leaf mix I had 3 large Chocolate Chips and a good chunk of walnut…this smelled AWESOME! The Walnut and Chocolate are wonderful together and ‘thick’ like a milk shake type taste or a batter type thickness! YUM! The Black Tea Taste is still present and I am happy for that!

This is really amazing…I LOVE IT!

Sare was kind enough to share a bit of this with me.

I think I could have used a little less water for this it was a bit diluted. I think with the proper leaf/water ratio this would be really good. I am getting the chocolate flavour as well as walnut, they mix together nicely, but not so much in a brownie like way.

This is a weird one for me. I taste the walnut. I taste the chocolate. I just don’t think “brownie” for some reason. I think, “delicious,” don’t get me wrong. But it reminds me of walnut fudge ice cream… oh who cares.

It’s walnut, chocolate and freakin’ delicious. Nuff said.

(Thanks go out to JoeCool (Nichole) for sending me some. Chica, you rock!)

Cofftea

That’s why I didn’t buy this one. I don’t think “brownie” can be conveyed in a tea no matter how hard one tries.

Batrachoid

It is rather difficult to convey rich, gooey food into flavored water. I would imagine this is one tea that would be aided by milk.
Mmm…Now I’ve got to cook walnuts with dinner.

I had this for my morning tea, it is very smooth. I can taste hints of nuts and chocolate but not very strong. Will play around with tea, it is very enjoyable I just wish there was a stronger chocolate flavor. (But I am a chocoholic so keep that in mind I will ALWAYS want more chocolate!) I am very pleased with 52teas! Will definitely be following the tea of the weeks and ordering again.

Finally dipped into my sample of this. Figured since it was Christmas, it was as good a time as any. Didn’t have it as a tea, though. I latte’d it for my brother and I. It makes a great chocolate base for such a sweet endeavor. I’d wager it makes a pretty good tea, also. But as a latte, it’s tops.

When I first opened the pouch, the smell of freshly baked brownies was so strong that I had to resist the urge to take out a spoon and taste the leaves as is.

The brewed tea has a very walnuty taste. It lacks just a little bit more chocolate, but it is still sweet and delicious and smells fantastic.
