Sipdown! (98 | 195)

Another one down from the RoT fall sampler!

This tastes just like those caramel apple lollipops that are green with a caramel coating. I mean, obviously there’s rooibos in here, so it doesn’t taste exactly like them, but the flavors are very close. The caramel is sweet and very buttery without much depth, and the apple tastes like a green apple hard candy. The caramel and the rooibos are the strongest flavors, with the apple more in the background. I think I kind of prefer that though, because if the apple were stronger, it would really just taste like a green apple Jolly Rancher. The rooibos has a mellow woody flavor, with no medicinal qualities.

A very pleasant dessert tisane for fall! I’m not sure I would go out and buy it necessarily, but I would certainly drink it if it were in my cupboard. I have a similar tea from Stash, Maple Apple Cider or something? I’ll have to pull that one out soon for an autumnal evening cuppa…

Lone teabag from their catalog.
5 min 200F
Artificial sugar apple. Apple more like a granny smith – kinda tart. Caramel, thick at the end of sip. The caramel is more in the aroma. Not bad, but not great.

I added some milk to this on the recommendation from one of the other reviews of this tea and it tastes just like caramel apple cider to me. From those powder packets. I added a bit of sugar but still. It smells fantastic but the taste is just okay. Still, a good cup.

I broke down and bought a sample of Republic of Tea’s Hi-Caf Cinnamon Toast tea and this came with it as a free sample. Along with a sample of their Pumpkin Spice, I should add.

As I’ve said probably a dozen times before, I do not like rooibos. But! I was won over by Tazo’s caramel apple rooibos, so I knew I had to give this a try.

The rooibos aftertaste that I hate so much is completely muted by the flavors of apple and caramel. Apple is the strongest taste, sort of realistic also sort of not. Kind of like those green apple lolipops with the caramel marbled into them. The caramel aspect follows, and it’s a very creamy caramel. Not a toasty caramel. I definitely taste some vanilla, too. This is definitely a dessert-like treat, but because I am biased toward things with caffeine, I probably wouldn’t buy this.

…Though it would be nice to have on chilly winter nights.

I added some hot milk (I used almond) to this as suggested on the tin, threw it in my go-cup and took it to my volunteer desk-job. Yum! I really needed something hot and comforting as the weather’s turning and I caught the very first autumn cold to come around. Woooohooo. This cheered up my day a bit. :)

I received this as a sample with my last order. I’m so impressed. It’s sweet without being fake sweet. The tart apple flavor blends very well with the caramel. Definitely will be included with my next order.

11/19/16 EDIT: I received a sample packet again with the new ROT catalog and decided to have it because I never got around to ordering it like I said would. I don’t know WTF happened but all I could taste this time was rooibos. I detected a hint of caramel and I mean BARELY a hint and no apple taste whatsoever. So sad because I was looking forward to having my own tin!!

I admit it. I am a brazen, unappoligetic rooibos fiend! Rooibos, I think, is especially good in the fall. Impatient for autumn, my favorite season to begin, I purchased this autumnal tea. The State Fair of Virginia happens in late September where luscious apples from the Shennadoah Valley can be had covered with rich, gooey caramel. Oh what a treat on a crisp fall night on the midway! Ahhh, autumn dreaming.

I happened upon this tea today at a local natural foods market and thought I’d give it a go in an attempt to feed my fall fantasy and my rooibos cravings. And you know what? This rooibos actually tastes of sweet juicy apples with a pretty decent note of caramel across the palate on the end. It’s like a caramelly candy apple in a cup. The rich rooibos supports the apple and caramel flavors quite nicely. I think the secret to getting the most flavor out of this tea is limiting the water to six ounces and going a bit over the seven minute steeping time. Eight minutes worked great. For a twelve ounce mug I believe I’d use two bags – There’s a generous 36 sachets to a tin.

I can’t wait to drink this on a brisk autumn evening. Come on September!

Loved this tea! It was a bit weak, but I brewed a large mug with just one bag. Next time I would definitely do a smaller cup or two bags. I sweetened it with some caramel syrup and it was delicious.

I received this tea as a sample in the mail today. I added some Bean Vine and Pumpkin honey to hot boiling water, and threw in the tea bag. I smell the caramel and rooibos tea. When steeped, it has a light taste. It reminds me of the Hot Apple Cider tea by RoT. It’s not too bad, but since I have some of the Hot Apple Cider tea at home I’m not going to buy any of this tea.
