From Teavana

We are proud to offer one of the rarest teas in the world; our limited edition yellow tea direct from China. The name ‘yellow’ tea refers not only to the unique processing and the lovely, bright golden infusion color, but due to its rarity it is also associated with the imperial yellow worn exclusively by emperors for centuries. Unlike any tea you have tasted before, at first sip it evokes the exquisite pleasure of everyday luxuries. Captivating high floral notes mingle with a smooth honeyed body and a subtle creamy, buttery finish. A perfectly balanced tea curated just for you.

High floral top note with smooth, mellow body with a subtle buttery finish

This is one of my favourite teas. Its too bad that its seasonally available. I got it on sale and stocked up. This is my “study tea”; I put a whole pot on and sit for hours reading my textbooks and drinking this.
The taste is smooth and vegetal, with some metallic notes. You can resteep it, I resteep mine three or four times times usually over the course of the day. the metallic taste fades with steeping. Buttery/creamy texture in your mouth increases with steeping.
Also, this tea seems to blend very well with dessert-y teas. Its an expensive tea to blend, but it does seem to enhance the flavor of any herbal tea I have blended it with so far.

Not as awesome as the price. However, it is pretty good stuff, and a real shocker the taste buds if you’re not prepared for how it tastes. I’ve heard folks compare it to a golden Yunnan, but it’s lighter and more complex than that, with a buttery finish like certain red wines.

(HOT) Back again on Golden Dragon. Decided to pull this one out again from my shelf after a long hectic day. Trying to be awake for the next few hours without being jittery and a nice floral sweet tea is just what I need. Perfect tea for relaxing on the couch, must be sipped to be appreciated. I think I like this tea more the second time around. added white honey and german rock sugar from teavana.

A pleasant tea, way overpriced for what it is (but I got it as a free sample ;). Super smooth feel, surprised by the buttery flavor/feel – I didn’t believe them when they said that in the store lol. Was surprised by the smoothness. Also a decently honey-sweet finish to it. I will have to try out some other yellow teas sometime in the future. Resteepable at least 4 times Western Style, so that’s decently impressive.

On it’s own, I’ve found that this tea isn’t very remarkable. However, when mixed with Teavana’s Jasmine Oolong, it’s probably my current favorite. The subtle buttery smokey flavors complement the jasmine and the greens very well.

So, I recently stopped by Teavana the other day and saw that they had this tea half off and knowing that this is the most expensive and unique tea they had, being a yellow tea, I had been waiting to give it a try! At first, this tea tastes closer to a Yunnan to me with a buttery and subtley sweet taste. I tried a second steeping, adding some of teavanas German rock salt, and noticed that the honey flavor was starting to show more. I tried steeping it a second time and noticed a more vegetal taste, but still with a hint of honey. Having never tried a yellow tea before I was pleasantly surprised! The price is a little steep for me, but I would definitely try it again if it were on sale. For now, I have a good 4oz to enjoy!

My mum was desperate to find something as delicious as DAVIDs Yellow Gem (very rare) and I told her NOT to try, she would be disappointed by her finds and nothing else could compare. She bought this, she hated it, I tried it, I hated it. I couldn’t get it to be bold enough. I tried different concentrations, longer steeps, hotter water, cooler water. Nothing worked and I am sorry, but I used the rest of it as a bath soak.

Had this one on the weekend.

I believe this is one of two teas from Teavana that I’m still working my way through…?

It’s held up really well with age though and it still so stunning to look at, so I’m not really in a particular rush to finish it off. This was just a late night Western cup but it was smooth and comforting with light to medium body and notes of buttery macadamia, a fruitier honey undertone, and a hint of sweet bread. The finish was a little bit mineral and vegetal, but overall this felt a bit more sweet and cozy leaning.

I remember always being able to get multiple tasty steeps out of this one.
