Tsugaru Green (Apple Green Tea)

Mixed feelings about this tea. The scent is not a true apple, but more along the lines of apple candy, like Jolly Ranchers. Really couldn’t detect the apple note with the second steeping. It tastes much better iced. I took the remaining tea to work and everyone immediately devoured the rest of it. Looking to try other teas from Lupicia but probably won’t repurchase this one.

Nice green apple aroma that really stays close to the cup. You have to hold th cup under your nose to fully enjoy it. Perfect for a cold rainy day like today. Plus it has a nice clean finish.

With the unending triple-digit heat here, I’ve mostly been exclusively drinking cold brew or iced tea, but I wanted to try at least one hot cup of this tea before the leaf is out.

I love green apple, and never seem to find enough things with that flavor for my liking. This tea has a really lovely green apple flavor, and the sencha Lupicia uses as a base always appeals to me, falling on the grassy and buttery side rather than the oceanic side, which blends well with the apple flavor. My biggest complaint is that the soft, pillowy approach to fruit flavoring Lupicia uses is just not strong enough for me in this case… I just want moar green apple! I want to be slapped across the face with it, rather than a soft and subtle background note.

Makes a very nice coldbrew! I’ve tried preparing it cold a few different ways but didn’t find any noteworthy differences when brewing it hot and then icing over just coldbrewing the leaf, nor with adding sweetener (it tastes nice with a bit of honey, but is fine without). Makes a good guzzle-tea.

Looks like green tea. But is too sweet for green tea. Oh, apples. That makes sense. Tastes like an iced green tea with an apple sliced in. Perfect for a hot summer day. I like it warm and the apple came out just a bit sweeter than it is when it’s cold but something about cold tart apple and crisp green tea on a hot day sounds nice. We are also in the middle of a cold snap. I don’t mind above 30 but when it gets below and the air that I breathe hurts my face…

Another winner from Lupicia!

This tea was so good I had it three times the day I opened the pouch. I was delicious no matter how I steeped it – hot, cold, or ambient. The smell of this tea is heavenly, like a fresh picked autumn apple from the orchard. The flavoring is spot on. It has a very natural apple taste with real depth and nuance, balanced perfectly by a clean green base, and with the sweetness of honeycrisp. When steeped hot, it’s reminiscent of warm, pure apple cider.

Light green apple flavor layered on a smooth green tea. This was easy to drink and I’m guessing would be lovely iced!

April Sipdown Alphabet Challenge: “T” Tea
I don’t love this one as much as others seem to, so I decided to make a small pot of it to drink while working on my Women’s Studies class analysis of the movie “American Violet”. The house has been really cold today so I’ve had to take quite a few breaks to make cups of tea to warm me up. I think I just am left wanting either a stronger apple flavor from this tea or more grassiness. In General, I prefer plain green teas but I do like flavored greens as well just this one, in particular, seems a little short on flavor.

Interestingly, I had no idea what tea this was when I drank it. This sachet is just labelled 8225 (blend number) and then has some Japanese writing that I can’t read. It came in a taster set that I bought in Los Vegas a few years back. I needed to finish off some of these so that I could have room for the new Lupicia blends.

Full disclosure: This teabag is slightly old (~2 years) and I drank this with milk.

I dislike green apples and any apple flavoured candy. Strangely, I enjoyed this blend. I actually thought it might be some sort of white grape blend because it had a very fruity but slightly floral flavour. In the aftertaste, there is a distinct “booze” kind of flavour that made me think of ice wine.

It did not taste like green apple candy at all (thankfully)! There is no sweetness. Although, now that I know what it is, I can make out the apple notes. I’m going to drink the rest of the teabags without looking up which tea it is. I think I enjoy them more without having preconceived notions about the flavour.

This one smells pretty grassy, but let’s see. I brewed it at a low temperature for a short time and it turned out super nice. The flavor is light, mostly green apple. Unlike some green teas, it didn’t get bitter as it sat. Thanks to tea-sipper for sharing! The green apple flavor here is quite authentic and pleasant – I’m a fan!

I guess I’m one of the outliers concerning this tea. I like it. I don’t like red apples, I like granny smith apples and that’s the taste I’m getting. Bits of Tsugaru apples in here. It’s very fragrant with the smell of green apples. There is a tiny bit of the Jolly Rancher apple candy taste but the cherry Jolly Ranchers, watermelon and green apple ones were always my favorite so I guess that’s why I don’t mind. There is a little tartness but not much.
