From DAVIDsTEA

How it tastes
Bold and very rich, with deep lingering notes of sweet dark honey

A seriously special treat. To create this luxurious and flavorful premium black tea from the east coast of Taiwan, each gold-tipped leaf is hand-plucked and twisted, for a stunning tea that looks just as beautiful as it tastes. Our favorite part? A sweet and lingering hint of dark honey in every sip. Now that is sweet.

What makes it great
• This premium black tea is hand-made with a beautiful twisted leaf style with golden tips.
• Black tea is high in caffeine, meaning it’s packed with energizing benefits that’ll help boost alertness.
• Black tea production in Taiwan is very limited – we were very lucky to get our hands on this tea!

Ingredients: Black tea from the east coast of Taiwan

I don’t particularly like how DavidsTea doesn’t list what type of tea it is, only that it’s “from the east coast of Taiwan.” It tastes a bit like Assam, with it’s malty flavor, but it’s not as strong. Although it has a distinct flavor, it tastes weak to me, lacking the tannin flavor I typically associate with black tea. I’m not getting any honey flavors, either.

I’ll have to play with the steeping time and amounts, but for now, it just tastes like a weak cup of Irish Breakfast. I’ll give it one thing—it is smooth. If you like English Breakfast (I don’t) then you’d probably like this tea. Personally, for its price point, it’s not that great.

Hmph. Instructions said 4-7 min so I went for 4, and it was a bit bitter. Too much for me, so I added milk and a touch of sugar.
Made that way, it was pleasant enough. A bit malty, smoky, and not very astringent.
I’m looking forward to trying this at three minutes!

OMGsrsly

I am really curious about this tea, but wow is that pricey. I might pick up 20g if my work gets extended through next week. :)

Indigobloom

I know right?! I have a free 50g coming my way. If I fall in love with this I may use it on that

boychik

Try it gongfu. You will like it more I bet ;)

Indigobloom

Oooh that is a good idea, surprised I didn’t think of that haha. Thanks Boychik!!

This was my date to the movies this afternoon, LOL

I’m so happy there is another straight black in the collection! While I was doubtful it would come close to my beloved darjeelings (and it did not), I did really enjoy this. The honey taste is subtle, but there, and hey, it’s nice to see a tea of the month that’s not loaded down with flavours, as awesome as some of those are.

Alyssa

My coworker bought some of this last night! She was raving about it. Perhaps I’ll have to try it next time. :)

It is weird, because at first, I really thought this one tasted like beef stew. But as I continued drinking it, the honey taste became more prononced. It is the first David’s Tea tea of the month that is a straight tea, and I am really glad. I don’t know if I will purchase more yet, but it is definitely worth a try. It reminds me of Nepal Black tea.

Oh YUM! I love smooth blacks and this one is delish. I put honey in my black tea, so when I see the name HONEY right in the name, I know this tea is for me (despite the fact that it doesn’t contain honey). To me, it reminds of my Twinings Earl Grey – flavorful, yet smooth and mild. I think impossible to even oversteep. This easily has become one of my favorite blacks…

First one to review this! PLUS, it’s my 500th note!

I’ve been waiting to write my 500th note until I tried something new, not just write a review for something I’ve had before. And when I saw this in store yesterday I knew this was the one. I am so excited about this tea.

So, Steeped it up for 4 minutes and took a nice lovely sip. This tea is naturally sweet and bold. It really does live up to its name. I’m not one for honey at all, but this one really works for me. It’s sweet without being overbearing honey flavour. It’s just a lovely sweet bold, slightly malty tea that just has everything going for it. I know several people that don’t care for it all the much already, but I love it. It reminds me of Nepal Black in some ways, but it’s very unique to itself also. I should almost do a side-by-side comparison. That will happen another day though.

So anyways, I LOVE this tea. I will probably get more soon. It’s so lovely and delicious, sweet and yummy. I definitely recommend.

@Fjellrev: They just introduced this one a few days ago, I think.

TheKesser

Thanks everyone!!
Yeah this one came out yesterday. It’s the December tea of the month, so it’ll be permanent. :) I’ve very happy about that.

Kristal

It’s nice they have more straight teas that are becoming permanent :)
