Hot Toboggan (Organic)

Hrmmmmm. Just….hrmm. This tea was my tea of the day today, my little liter thermos full as I made my way to what turned out to be a painfully long day at work. It was tasty, sure, but I dunno. It was presented to me as “Mom’s Apple Pie…but better!”, but I have to disagree. Mom’s Apple Pie kept me reaching for more. This tea is just…okay. Probably won’t restock.

Trying my first DAVIDsTEA green tea. I’m a wimp and have still to really like a plain, just leaves tea, so forgive me.

Dry Smell: Smells like amaretto, weirdly enough. Nutty. So I do smell the almonds. I also get the lemongrass. It smells a little like something caramel-flavored. So not a really buttery caramel.

Steeped Smell: Smells faintly of apple cider. Maybe a little spicey, probably the cinnamon. Color is a very light beige-y green.

Taste: This is not a strong tea, which tend to be my favorites. However, I do enjoy this. It tastes like a hot apple cider. Kinda. But I like my hot apple cider mulled with plenty of zingy spices, so I’m not used to a plain appley flavor. I would have liked if there was a bit of tartness to the apple. Maybe some lemon to make that happen. I will try squeezing a bit of lemon in this next time. I do taste that caramel-flavor flavor. Not true caramel. In my opinion, caramel is a buttery gooey sweet chunk of goodness. If you tell yourself this is a caramel apple, you may be disappointed. But as a warm soothing drink that tastes like a weak but well-balanced caramel-flavored apple cider, you can let yourself accept it. So, in conclusion, something I like, don’t love, it won’t be one of my regular, must-keep-stashed-at-all-times, but if someone bought it for me, I would enjoy it and leave it at that. In all truth, it tastes good. Just can’t pinpoint why.

Bought a cup of this in-store, and WOW, does it ever taste like a caramel apple! I found myself savouring it as I drank… I think I might have to buy more of this before it goes out.

The sweeter, apple flavour hits you first, but then the caramel echoes as a delicious aftertaste, and stays in your mouth after you drink. Just the right strength — I loved it!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t resteep well at all. That’s just about my only complaint.

Dry, omg I adored the smell of this one. I’m a sucker for all things apple and cinnamon and couldn’t wait to try it. I wasn’t the biggest fan of mom’s apple pie, and this had potential!

Sadly, despite it being a step up from MAP, it still wasn’t what I was hoping for after the brewing. I felt like it wanted to be a complex flavour and instead was a watered down forever nuts brewed in apple juice. It was like wanting and expecting a slice of fresh hot apple pie and getting . . . apple slices with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Good in and of itself, but such a let down after high hopes.

Not a bad tea, but not one I decided to stock up either. Farewell Hot Toboggan, I hope you find someone who loves you.

wow ppl do not seem to like this tea…got it as part of the winter collection and trying it for the first time.

this smells amazing dry and steeping, this is what my mom’s apple pie smells like, i feel all warm inside right now. and its the color of apple sauce, so neat.

the taste is a little weaker but still bitter apples, cinnamon, and i get the smoothness on my tongue and the warmth in the back of my throat.

ok i’m gonna sweeten this with an agave stick and see what happens…

mmm, i like it! i don’t see what everyone is complaining about, this is good!
sweetened the spice really pops and it tastes like a baked apple with lots of cinnamon.

I can’t quite place what this tastes like. It’s kind of sweet and spicy with a strange, smooth aftertaste.

It’s not bad, but it’s not memorable enough for me to stock up on.

OK. I officially give up. I followed the steeping directions to the T(ea), and to no avail.

First impressions – This tea smells ok dry, very similar to Mom’s Apple Pie. It smells better once steeped, but still not unique or interesting. Also, I was super excited to be getting a kukicha blend, but… come on. There is simply nowhere near enough kukicha in this tea.

Flavour – Weak. Mild apple cinnamon flavor, not a hint of caramel, and this bitterness that I cannot seem to rid myself of no matter how I steep it.

Loveability – Unfortunately, this is a definate pass for me. Darn, I was really hoping for a flavoured kukicha to call my very own…

all these bad reviews really turned me off from trying it, but i got a sample in my latest DAVIDsTEA order, so i had to try. my brother was more excited about it, so he made it… with unfiltered water.
now, i’m not trying to be a snob, i will drink tap water, but in my tea, the taste really comes through for me, especially with this tea. which was doubly upsetting, because dry, this tea smells exactly like a caramel apple, so yes, i did get my hopes up.
i can taste a very faint hint of caramel/cinnamon/apple, but the tap water taste comes through strong.
maybe i’ll get another small sample if they still have it in stock the next time i’m near a physical DAVIDs store. and try again with some filtered water.

The smell of this tea dry had me absolutely salivating. It smelled so delicious I had a hard time not just eating it right out of the bag. I really enjoyed Mom’s Apple Pie, and so I was looking forward to this one.
I just made myself a cup, followed the directions and steeped two tsp for 7 minutes. As I lift it to my nose, it no longer smells enchanting. The water is murky (I couldn’t tell you the colour, I made it in a black mug…but I can see that its murky). The first sip is blech. I am not in love with this tea.
It’s a bit weak, but bitter and with a taste of something like…dirt? I’m not quite sure. Whatever it is, it isn’t good. I can smell and taste the cinnamon, but it almost seems like ‘cheap’ cinnamon, if that makes any sense? Not like a quality ingredient.
I am really disappointed with this tea. I’m glad I only got a 25g bag, and I’m also glad that I stocked up on Mom’s Apple Pie!
To be fair, my partner said he liked this tea, but he only had one sip and gave no indication about what it was that he liked about it (he also seemed quite apologetic to be disagreeing with me!). He did agree however that the dry smell and the taste coming out of the cup were basically nothing alike.

The caramel apple (or apple pie) smell I get from this tea gave me the impression that this tea would have a nice fruity note to it. Upon first sip, I noticed something strange, strange like this taste does not belong and out of place. I sat there thinking to myself what it could be.

I looked into my teabag and saw that there was lemongrass inside! I kinda felt like this tea could’ve done without it because lemon grass doesn’t add a fruity taste to the tea, it makes the tea taste a little savoury.
