When I was ten or so, this is what I would drink before going to bed. So it does ‘work’ in that regard. Unfortunately, the chamomile tasted so bitter to me I had to have a teaspoon or two of honey with it. Maybe it had something to do with the brewing time rather than the chamomile, but this tea turned me off chamomile.
It does taste wonderful with honey though.

This tea works in a pinch when I’m out of my other night time teas.

I remember liking this tea a lot the first time I tried it but this batch is definitely a sub par experience. The promise of spearmint and chamomile mix was not delivered right with neither spearmint nor chamomile recognizable and the whole mix tasting like “some herb” tea.

Classic. It’ll only make you sleepy if you chase a Xanax down with it. However, it does help to relax the innards if you have cramps or a digestive embarrassment. I think it also helps ease sore throats. Like Caitlan said — a great companion to sweet treats.

This tea reminds me of my youth. Cold nights at home with my family. Great decaf tea!!

I don’t drink this for the taste, I drink it for the specific purpose of helping me sleep. The taste is by no means, bad. It just isn’t anything spectacular but really, it doesn’t have to be, as long as it soothes me off to sleep. To my taste buds it’s predominantly spearmint with a hay-like background and a herbaceous/floral touch. As I sit here typing, I’m already getting sleepy. Sleepy time indeed!

I wish I could get even a little bit of “sleepy” out of Sleepytime! My body chemistry blows right past the chamomile.

Jason

@gmathis I am hit and miss with it. Sometimes I can drink it and it does its job and sometimes it doesn’t. Makes me wonder if it’s just the placebo effect?!

This is the tea I always turn to when my stomach isn’t feeling so hot.

As for brewing method, I don’t really pay attention, just drop a tea bag into my cup of boiling water, then drop my spoon on it to make it sink to the bottom of the cup, poke at the tea bag a few times after it’s been steeping a while, then start sipping away like 10 minutes later once it’s cool enough to drink. I don’t even bother to take out the tea bag…

While I don’t really need any descriptions for myself since it’s one of my go-to teas, I’ll still write a little something since I’m here.

The dry smell is definitely minty, but as I’m not the biggest fan of mint, I enjoy that it’s not an overwhelming mint flavour once steeped. The drink in general is very mild—even with leaving the tea bag in for the duration, so it’s right up my alley. No need to add sugar.

Edit to note: Thought I should edit this to note that my score isn’t due to the flavour of this tea alone. While it’s definitely a decent tasting tea to me, it’s not something that I would normally rank a 90 for in taste. Since it always makes me feel better, however, and does so without tasting awful, it gets the 90. :) Taste alone would be more of a 75.

Celestial Seasonings is almost always better bag-in. I’ve been revisiting a couple of my favorites recently.

Somebody got her work father drinking Sleepytime every night.

This stuff is great when fresh. It’s predominantly spearmint and lemongrass, two ingredients I don’t care for in combination but when combined with linden, chamomile , rose and orange blossom, creates a soothing balance. There is a modest spearmint and blackberry leaf sweetness if the bag is taken out in a timely fashion. Otherwise the lemongrass dominates and a drying quality develops when the bag is left in the mug until last sip.

Hi there! Don’t think I’ve tried that one, sounds good.

Leafhopper

The Sleepytime Vanilla is a go-to bedtime option for me. Surprisingly good for a bagged tea.

Nattie

Yay for converting non-tea-drinkers into believers! One step at a time, haha ^^

gmathis

It’s a good standard for the uninitiated; however, I’ve never had any luck with the “sleepy” claims. I have to be knocked out with a hammer :)

Woot! Woot!

gmathis, it’s nice for winding down but def not a sleep aid.
Leafhopper: I really enjoy Sleepytime Vanilla, more so during the winter.

Todd, I picked up a box from Sprouts on sale last week if you’re near one.

Nice! I don’t know if we have one around Boulder Creek or not.

I think this tea is best cold. The chamomile, mint, and sweetness mix to make quite the lovely blend. I don’t buy boxes of this anymore, but if I come across a bag somewhere, it’s always a safe bet.

gmathis

I’ve never tried it iced, but I have some stray bags that need to be used or disposed of…just enough for an experiment!

Perfect!

I’m not the biggest fan of pure chamomile tea. I definitely think it’s more of an acquired taste. Thankfully the chamomile taste takes a back seat in this tea, as there are more flavors that are mixed in to make it more tolerable.

Not a huge fan of the taste of this one, but it’s a decent tea.
