From California Tea House

“You put the lime in the coconut and drink them both up.” If you don’t know it, look it up; especially the Muppets version on MP3.

This ‘Muppet’ inspired blend turned out to be a keeper! Lime in the Coconut is a ridiculously tasty blend of superior Indian Assam and fine Chinese green teas tossed with shredded coconut, lime juice and sunflower petals. You’ll love it so much you’ll scream, “Doctor!”

Ingredients: Green tea, shredded coconut, sunflower petals, lime juice

Thank you to QueenOfTarts for swapping this!

It smells amazing in the bag! Yes, a little reminiscent of my lemon scented 409 multi-surface cleaner, but I’m not worried. I keep huffing the bag that the tea came in – it’s pretty awesome!

Steeped 2 tsp in 6 oz. of water that was 167º for 3 minutes = probably the best flavored green tea I’ve enjoyed in quite awhile! 3 oz. were reserved for hot unadulterated consumption. It was a little stronger than I like, but easily fixable. The other 3 oz. were iced and lightly sweetened. I like it best this way, but maybe that’s because it’s currently hot and summery out. Drinking it this way is like taking a mini-vacation to a tropical place – laying in one of those really comfortable lounge chairs under an umbrella in a bikini on the beach. I think I just talked myself into ordering a large bag of this…

Allowing myself to drink a cuppa tea before heading to bed after a long night’s work. All the college kids are back for the summer and it’s going to be a long week of re-training. But they’re all good kids.

This tea is a sample sent from Lori. Actually surprised I haven’t reviewed it as it was a sample I was excited to get from her. The name reminds me of a scene from Practical Magic (found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stQ31X8COWw&feature=related ). I didn’t even know the muppets did a skit with this.

These leaves are beautiful. I was surprised at how large the coconut shavings were. These were no ordinary shavings used in baking coconut, no not in this tea! This tea brewed up a beautiful lemon lime green. The aroma is very coconutty with a bit of citrus sneaking in as well. It reminds me of Harney and Sons Bangkok Green tea (minus the ginger). There is almost a buttery note to the scent as well.

As far as the taste goes, it is a lightly flavored, buttery green tea. I taste the bright, citrusy lime in the forefront, then the buttery green base with a hint of coconut at the end. The coconut is very strong in scent and as I sip it I get more from the scent of the coconut than the taste of the coconut. Does coconut make the tea taste buttery and smooth, or is that the actual tea itself? This texture I’m tasting was similar in the Harney and Sons tea mentioned above, which also had coconut in it. I do like how smooth this blend is. Nothing stands out too sharply. I really enjoy the lime flavor in this tea. It doesn’t overpower the green tea, but blends with it rather nicely. I’m glad to have enjoyed a mug full of this.

Well, there could be worse songs to have stuck in my head ;) And I’ve only ever known the Muppet version (teahee!), but then again I’m a Muppet nut. :D

Auggy

I might actually have an MP3 of the Muppet version. It was a college favorite. :)

2nd infusion: still going strong! Me thinks there are actual pieces of lime and/or coconut in the tea, which explains the strong personality and flavor. I’m upping my rating slightly because of the strength of the second infusion.

well, i was thinking that i really shouldn’t write a note about this today. cuz my tastebuds aren’t on their best game. and i probably should have steeped this a little lighter. and i DO have more leaf so i can try again. and i’ll do a second steep of this cup. but i kinda also feel like this tea just isn’t for me.
the smell of the leaves was great!
but there’s something about the brewed tea i’m just not finding appealing. i suspect that lime and green tea just don’t mix well for me? maybe?
i might get back to you after the second cup…
thanks for this taste moraiwe!

I think this is the last tea I took a small bit out of Momo’s teabox and it’s also a sipdown. There were 2 1/2 teaspoons left so I cringingly used all of it, hoping it didn’t make the cup Bitter-City…

Steep #1 // 2 1/2 min steep
I just cooled the water for around 45 minutes. The description says this is assam mixed with green. It just looks like green tea to me (so does the picture). The flavor isn’t bitter at all! It’s a great combination. The lime and coconut are equal here. The coconut is the sweet creamy kind… think 52Teas big flakey coconut pieces and flavor from ‘Coconut Cream Pie’ (my favorite coconut tea). The lime tastes like actual lime juice, bright and refreshing. I swear I was getting hints of mint, but maybe I’m wrong. Overall, a very nice flavor.

Steep #2 // around 40 min after boiling // 3 min
Another great cup but I think it has lost some of the lime flavor (that is to be expected). I kind of wish I had more of this one! I wish California Tea House didn’t sell their teas in 4 ounce packages as the lowest amount…too many cups of the same tea for me when there are so many teas out there. I’m having fun drinking mostly new-to-me teas lately!! I just realized I had three new teas today! I should work on sipdowns since it seems I like holding onto the last teaspoons of teas.

Thanks Moraiwe! I like the aroma of this more than I like the flavor. I’m not much of a fan of coconut. It has both flavors and even a bit of the base. I like it :)

This lightly flavored green tea is quite the treat! It’s a little lime with even less coconut taste so for those who aren’t sure about flavored greens you might like this! It’s juicy and sweet and fun! Not much for a smell and it’s typical green tea looking liquid but still nice!!!

I’m listening to the wind and snow trapping me in my house for at least one more day, so I decided to try this one to cheer me up a bit :)

Its pretty good. Its a bit expensive, but I think this might be a fav flavored green tea. Its just very light all around. The lime, coconut, and the green tea play very nicely together. I’m impressed.

Meghann M

How’s the snow by you? We just seem to have the high winds and blowing snow, no accumulation yet. I like your idea of a tropical tea for cheer during this lovely weather!

Nichole/CuppaGeek

Oh I have snow drifts around my house that are as tall as my 5 yr old! Ugh! I think right now we are at 10 inches at least. The wind is blowing to hard to tell :)

Stay safe and warm! Sounds like we are both in for some fun weather still. .

More lime than coconut. Sweet, juice, fragrant. Probably great iced. Fun.
I like it. In the world of citrus flavored greens..this one shines. I’m going to wait until summer to have it iced!

Tried this flavor just because of the name. I’ll admit it. I thought it was funny. Come on, how many of you read this name & didn’t start thinking of the song? Bet you’re thinking of it or even singing it now, right? ;)

So I had found the link to California Tea House thanks to various reviews of their teas here in Steepster. I ended up deciding to treat myself to a little sampling of their teas & this one of the flavors I picked. Again, based mostly on the name…

I love limes. I love the smell, the taste, the acidity & I love lime flavored things…jello, cookies, pie…it’s all good! So I bought this tea looking for lime flavor & I got it!

First off, the smell when you open the bag is amazing. You can smell the lime & the coconut. And of course, you can smell the green tea. It’s all amazing together. Then there is that wonderful smell during brewing. Still strong. Still delightful to the senses.

For the first cup, I always leave it unsweetened. I like trying tea in it’s bare form. I can always add sugar or whatever later on. I ended up adding a drop of agave for the fun of it. Just a little dark amber & a little drop & it seemed to awaken more of the lime for me.

I am definitely going back to the California Tea House site for more of this tea. It’s going to the top ten list of must have for me. And I’m going to try this iced as I can only imagine it getting better! I bet on a hot summer day this is going to refresh me.

Definitely glad I bought it. Thanks to all that bragged about California Tea House! Great stuff!

SunnyinNY

Iced the remainder of the pot. Yup…works amazing hot or iced! Definitely going to make the during the summer. Maybe I’ll even add some Malibu rum for a little kick. So glad I bought it to try it, but now I need more!!!
