From Butiki Teas

With Open Eyes pairs our premium Hangzhou Dragon Well with the flavor of fresh picked strawberries, soothing ginger, and subtle buttery toffee. The chestnut, damp moss, and marine notes of the Hangzhou Dragon Well mingle with and compliment the strawberry, ginger, and toffee notes. Adding a little bit of brown crystal sugar will enhance the strawberry and toffee notes while subduing the ginger notes.

This is a delicious tea that I picked up a couple of months ago. It is good with a strong taste of strawberries. We will see if someone buys out Butiki tea, I bet someone will.

I brewed this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and 175 degree water for 2.5 min.

I normally hate ginger…but this tea was delicious. I was shocked at how flavorful it is, as my sample was on the small side for what I usually use. I normally add a hair more than a tsp per cup. There was absolutely no need for it this time. Big strawberry flavor with a little something extra with the ginger. I imagine it is delicious hot and iced, which is my favorite.

This is delicious.. Although I’m not tasting any ginger. Maybe it all sank to the bottom of the bag?
It’s a tiny bit weak, but I don’t think I used enough tea.

Hmm.

I wanted to love this, it smelled really good in the bag and the description sounds amazing….I just wish all the flavours in the brewed tea were stronger.

It underwhelmed me. It smelled so juicy and lush, but the taste was like a hint of strawberry. I didn’t really notice the ginger. It didn’t taste like fake strawberry, which is great, but I just wish everything was like 25% more potent.

I glad I don’t love it, because it’s one less to go on my wishlist!

I have some more to try again later though!
Thank you to OMGSRSLY for sending some my way!

Courtney

I’m with you on this one. Probably best for the wallet, since I love nearly all the Butikis I try haha!

OMGsrsly

I actually like that the flavour is so mild. :) More for me!

Plunkybug

I love this one. Like, OMG so much.

And I’m on team whatshesaid/Courtney – I feel almost equally excited to be able to say a tea isn’t for me, as I am when I find a 90+ tea. It feels like I’m making progress!

I need to try this as a hot brew before I’m out of the small amount I got—all I’ve had is cold brew so far and while it’s fine, I’m not crazy about it.

I think I’m on board with what whatshesaid said (that felt weird to type)—I wish all the flavours were 25% stronger. Yes, there’s strawberry. Yes, there’s ginger. Yes, it’s a green base. Yes, it’s all fine. I just wish it was more punchy!

ohfancythat

Yeah :)
I don’t even think I picked up the ginger at all! I’m questioning lately just how sensitive my palette is (or isn’t)

Can I just start by saying that this is really not what I want right now. I really wish I had a plain black or a new white on hand, because I just don’t want anything flavoured right now. I have some gyokuro yamashiro but it’s just too vegetal for me right now.

This was a sample that came with my Butiki order. I am sad that I can’t have what I want right now (where is my teavivre order???) but at least I have this.

I am not getting any ginger from this at all. What I AM getting is sweet, sweet strawberry. The strawberry taste is simillar to that of the big pieces of strawberry in my grandmother’s home made jam. Oh wait, I found the ginger. The base is nice and fresh, and I’m really tasting it at the end, but only on some sips. I would buy this. Yeah. I have to buy this.

What black tea?

I’m a geek…if you follow me, you should get used to it. I’m not ashamed of it. Hehe.

This team was out of this world. (Ducks rotten tomatoes) It holds the distinction of being one of the only green teas that I actually enjoy. The tasting notes are light and never overpowering. The strawberry is natural and I was happily surprised that the ginger flavor was not strong at all. I probably wouldn’t have ordered this on my own because of the ginger, but it was one of the teas that I won in Butiki’s tea giveaway with Whispering Pines, and I am so happy it was included!

I have noticed that green tea makes me feel slightly dizzy, but I don’t have that reaction with other types of teas…it’s weird. Maybe I get high off of green tea? Haha. I guess there could be worse things in life!

Roswell Strange

Looks like we both share an aversion to green tea and ginger :p

Thank you Stacy for the sample!

Dry leaf smells lightly of toffee & strawberry, with strawberry aroma becoming more prominent while steeping. Flavor is similar but gentler, with a noticeable hint of ginger. It’s nice enough, but not among my Butiki favorites. Part of that could be my fault, for letting the sample languish in the plastic baggie for months, or using a brew basket that still had the lingering smell of another flavored tea (though I did soak it in 185F-ish water prior to adding the tea to minimize cross-contamination). I’ll give this one another try in the future.

This sample came to me from Stephanie, who was very generous to include it in our swap!

Given that it actually purports to feel somewhat like spring out today, I’m glad I started off the day with such a fresh tea. I added a bit of rock sugar, and this helped subdue the ginger notes, which I must admit I was a little afraid of (tasting the ginger, I mean). I could definitely taste the strawberry, which instantly reminded me of Ruby Pie. Unfortunately, because ruby pie is my gold standard for strawberry in tea, I just kept comparing these two teas in my head, even though I know they’re not even all that similar. I could taste a bit of the toffee, and actually liked the fresh green base on which the sip ended. I have enough left to have another cup, and will gladly drink that down, but this likely won’t be stocked (again, thank heavens, as I’m in the process of building my Butiki order, and it’s already nuts haha).

Thanks again, Stephanie! I’d been wanting to try this tea for a while now!

Stephanie

Yay! I am very glad you enjoyed it, even if you won’t restock it. This is why we do swaps, so we know what we do and do not want to purchase :D high fives

keychange

You’re exactly right! Love swapping! and I enjoyed the tea, too :)

I got a little more ginger this time than in my first cup. It’s a great combination with the strawberry — a little hint of spice among the sweetness, a warmth at the back of the throat. The strawberry is slightly candy-like on first sip; light, fresh, juicy wonderfulness. I was surprised how pale the liquor was, but there’s no compromising on taste here. The green tea is fairly indistinguishable, but that’s okay — it just allows the rest of the flavours to take centre stage! I love this one, and can see it becoming a summer favourite. A definite restock!
