Rose Violet Calendula Oolong is a high altitude tea from Taiwan. This tea is infused with rose, violet, calendula, and jasmine. This tea starts out light and progresses to a sweet and floral flavor that lingers. Rose Violet Calendula Oolong is good for multiple infusions.

Sipdown! Although this hardly counts as it’s a 1-cup sample not even in my cupboard. Also, I only drank 2 sips and gave the rest to my mom :P
I actually rather enjoyed the sips of this that I did have. It’s very floral, but given the name, that’s of course to be quite expected! I definitely caught a large dose of jasmine, along with other floral aromas/flavours, and a bit of green oolong as well (fairly light, though). My mom quite enjoyed it, as I had figured, since she enjoys floral teas, so it may make it into a future Butiki order :) Nothing I’d keep around, but for a floral tea it was pretty palatable IMO!

I have been on a bit of an Oolong kick lately and decided to traipse down the path to the rose garden this weekend, inviting dubious glares from passers by. I cared nothing for their snide commentary and instead reveled in the aroma and texture that surrounded me. Yes, this cup is floral, fruity, sweet forget-me-nots awash with all the delicate nuances of a proper variety-hour garden show, but that’s not to say it wasn’t quite good in its own right. In point of fact, I’ve yet to try anything connected to Butiki that I wouldn’t gladly drink again in the future. While this one would certainly require an almost Mad Hatter sort of mood for me to fully appreciate, there’s clearly nothing wrong with that every now and again when you find you’re following the rabbit down the hole!
Real men can appreciate a floral tea I think. Well done! Good practice for tea parties with your daughter down the road :)

The tea is very good though and relaxing.
All wonkiness from the silly review aside, yes, this actually is well worth a try if you are a fan of floral tea or would just like to try something different.

I think wonky is just a product of the hour of night as we approach 2am! Gnoshing. That’s my new favorite. I love words that my macbook underlines in red. I’m excited to try this one because I’m a floral girl when it comes to perfumes and I appreciate Turkish delight and violet candies, so thank you for the sample, Stacy!
This is one saga of a tea. With the first steep, all I could taste was jasmine, and I’ll admit that I was a little disappointed. Not a huge fan of jasmine. Rose Violet Calendula has reminded me why multiple steeps, especially for oolongs, is pretty much the greatest thing ever, especially when you’re trying one for the first time and don’t know what to expect.
The second steep paid homage to rose. A little on the heady side, but I like it. Plus rose and oolong pair beautifully together, now that I think about. Even when you think about the typical flavour profiles of different types of teas, rose would logically seem to go the best with oolongs. Even the scent of the second steep was like a waft of fresh rose perfume.
Then the third steep is even more different, introducing the violet. It’s oh so subtle though, as the rose is still quite prominent, but I’m nevertheless excited to finally get some action from the violet. It still also smells very rosy.
This makes me want just a violet oolong. Pretty please?
I would love to try just a violet oolong as well!
I know, right? I bet violet would go way better with an oolong base than with a black base.

Hmmmm, a violet oolong. Not sure about that. We already have one oolong with violet in it but a violet tea is certainly a possibility.

i have been musing over this sample… to review or not to review, that is the question!
okay two statements 1) this is a brilliant tea and 2) i don’t like it.
i know that a lot of steepsters don’t do negative reviews. i am not one of them… that said i really butiki teas, just not all of them apparently. i don’t like the idea of criticizing a company or an artist that i have so much respect for especially when it’s not the skills or the artistry i’m commenting on.
so i resolved that my numerical rating would be based on the tea’s execution as opposed to my personal appreciation of it.
there is a distinct floral component of the tea. ‘bouquet’ is exactly the right word for it… i taste all the layers—it’s not a random floral tone… every flower is independent. the rose is light, as is the calendula, to me the violet is strongest which is awesome! this is a tea that has kept its promise.
why don’t i like it? that’s a bit of an unknown, to be honest. i think it’s because it seems more like flowers than tea in my mouth? i feel similarly about the eight treasures yabao by verdant teas with a ‘good, but…’
it was very well done, just not quite me is all! ‘A’ for accomplishment, ‘D’ for personal taste (it’s not you, it’s me).

a combination of teavana’s dragonfruit tisane and teavana’s weight to go (i really dislike that name…grr). i’m hoping for the fruit tones with a bit of caffeine punch. it’s a beautiful colour! haven’t tried it yet =0D
I used to do a combo of weight to go (I agree, it’s a ridiculous name) with some fruity flavored brew…it’s been awhile, so I can’t remember what.
Smells strongly of rose and violet upon opening the package. Steeped liquid is light yellow and delicate. Very floral taste yet not overpowering. This is totally a garden tea party tea. I am not a huge floral person except for jasmine, but I like this a lot. I think I taste violet more than rose but the rose is still present for sure. I will keep this on the list for next time I order from Butiki. Another win for Stacy. Perfectly balanced and lovely. I’m glad I requested this sample and thanks to Butiki for offering samples!
Sadly, this marks the end of samples and new teas. I’m trying to drink down my cupboard and actually figure out what I want to keep around all the time. So… this may be the last review for awhile. :) I shall have to live vicariously through the rest of you!

Spring cleaning is in progress. I have already broken one of my favorite mugs, a lovely yellow striped one, which I doubt I can replace. Grr! Why is it always the ones that are discontinued/antique, and not the ones from Ikea! Gah!

When I placed my order with Butiki, I was invited to pick some samples and was intrigued by this one, as I have not previously had rose-flavored tea. I confess I’m at a disadvantage when describing this tea because I have no idea what violet or calendula taste or smell like, but the rose has a strong presence both in flavor and scent(not overpowering though)and the jasmine is in the background. I prepared it as instructed and had my husband try it first before I added my usual sweetener. Once in awhile I am very much in the mood for a floral tea, and today is one of those days. This is delicate but flavorful, and the floral notes held up to three steepings to my surprise. As usual, I prefer it lightly sweetened, no surprise there, but it is nice unsweetened too. My husband prefers unsweetened tea and he enjoyed it too. So this is a win win for both of us.
I’m a little wary of floral teas, so I thought I probably wouldn’t like this sample. Wow, was I wrong!
This is a masterfully blended floral symphony. The jasmine, rose and violet all come through in perfect balance with the oolong (I don’t know what calendula tastes like, but whatever it is works!) It is so fresh and delicate, and not at all overpowering or perfumey. This is THE perfect tea for a tea party. Or for just taking some time to yourself to unwind.
If you like floral teas or are on the fence about them, then you have to try this one! I don’t know how Stacy does it, but she makes teas that I thought weren’t for me the ones that I find myself craving!
This is a tea I’ve wanted to try for a while. It was so sweet of LiberTEAS to include it in my Christmas Swap box.
Does anyone else do this? I heat my water while I’m blow drying my hair. Then I pour it over my tea to steep and go back to getting ready. Sometimes I forget my tea. AND then over steep it by 10 minutes. GAH!! That’s what I did this morning with this tea. Bummer. I can tell it’s a great tea, so I look forward to my next brewing. I hope I don’t mess it up again.
Short hair. My a.m. routine takes about 5 minutes (there’s only so much you can do with this face :) which may be the real reason I have black tea in the morning!
i have to FORCE myself to set a 3 min timer on my phone. i usually don’t want to cuz i’m lazy, but if i don’t i will end up steeping every single tea for 15 min.
like last night i made some creme caramel rooibos, and then promptly took a 30 min nap as it took a 30 min steep. hah!
I do that all the time. I always put a timer on but its so quiet that I often forget about a tea for a few minutes up to a half hour. I usually will just dump out some tea and add water until it tastes right.
For times like this … this is when I absolutely LOVE my Breville. (although I don’t usually steep Oolong in my Breville) I love that i don’t have to babysit the Breville, or worry about not hearing the timer or worse … forgetting to set the timer all together. It does all the work for me. :)
Anyway… I hope your future attempts with this tea offer a more pleasing cup for you! :)
Glad to know I’m not alone :) I know I’m getting a timer for Christmas, so hopefully this won’t happen much in the future! Shmiracles, it’s a good thing it was rooibos. Sounds like a delicious one :) Good idea about adding water, Butiki Teas. BTW, I feel so awful for ruining one of your excellent teas. LiberTEAS, Breville sounds amazing. Maybe if I get a raise or Christmas bonus I should get one. Wish they were a bit more affordable.

Usually, it seems, flavored oolongs, especially flavored green oolongs, are not my thing. There’s always something funky about them. It’s totally different with this one, though. It’s plain lovely.
With a blend like that it would be probably easy to swerve mostly to jasmine flavoring, but Butiki is not a kind of company that would go the path of least resistance with their blends! The fragrance is very complex, one can definitely get calendula (sweet honey-like) and rose. The same goes for the taste – there’s rose and jasmine co-existing quite happily with the oolong base (jade oolong?). I think it gets more perfume-like tasting as it cools down, which is not a bad thing for me, but the people who are not fond of flower teas should either drink this one within 10 minutes of having made it, or probably not at all.
I really love it and hopefully I will order some for myself one day :)
