Tea of the Week for June 6, 2022!

June is our anniversary month – it’s been 7 years! Wow!

I’m proud of us & we deserve a special treat, right? That’s why I crafted this tea. Something special for this special occasion!

This blend starts with a combination of two teas: Gu Zhang & a golden black Bi Luo Chun with cacao shells & nibs, coconut, vanilla beans & just the right touch of essence to create a cake batter-y taste for your teacup! Lovely chocolate notes & sweet, creamy coconut notes. A smooth cake batter note together with a rich black tea base. This is just so good.

ingredients: black teas
organic ingredients: coconut, cacao nibs, cacao shells, vanilla beans & natural flavors

This tastes deeply chocolatey, both from the cocoa shells, as well as the natural qualities of the black tea. I also taste a lot of coconut. I don’t taste any cake. This is similar to other 52teas blends I’ve tried, but I don’t end up enjoying it quite as much. It’s still really rich and high quality. The resteep was almost as strong as the first. I’m sure a coconut fan would really love this one.

Lots and lots of chocolate and coconut. More chocolate in the smell than the flavor. Definitely getting chocolate coconut cake.

I believe I enjoyed this? Actually, I’m vaguely remembering resteeping it now, because it was pretty rich and delicious, but my memory really isn’t being very helpful here.

The problem with Anne’s subscription box is that there’s always a tea or two in it that I like so much that I end up annihilating it in a day or two. My tasting notes for these teas end up being a repetitive “I don’t know what happened but tea is gone now, but I’m pretty sure I loved it.”

That’s this tea, the latest Strawberry Shortcake tea (RIP too good for this world), Anne’s Breakfast Blend (I refuse to believe it’s gone; I’m sure if I dig deep enough there’s one serving left of it in the back of the cupboard), and many, many more that I consumed too quickly I never properly learned their names.

What many of these teas seem to have lately in common is a delicious, velvety black tea base (blend) that verges on chocolate-y, perfect levels of vanilla, and some combination witchcraft/alchemy. Sometimes there’s also amaranth, which is apparently Crowkettle catnip (not present here, but the rest of the delicious traits are).

This tea in particular is one I’d never pick it out for myself; my distrust of cocoa nibs is too strong. But Anne makes me taste chocolate coconut cake instead of dirt so now I’m trying to convince myself I don’t need to buy more right now. Life is full of these little challenges.

Another winner from my first 52Teas subscription box! This is absolutely evocative of chocolate cake batter: It’s creamy and rich, and the cacao nibs and shells add a really lovely, mild chocolate flavor. The coconut flavor is juuust there, but not at all overpowering — instead it adds a full-bodied creaminess I’ve come to associate with 52Teas’ coconut blends.

I find myself wishing the black tea base were a littttle bit stronger, but that would probably mess with the delicate alchemy of these flavors.

This is a sophisticated dessert tea that I plan to savor. :)

Aww I just ordered from Anne a few days ago, and I didn’t include this one because I assumed it was regular cake batter. But chocolate cake batter sounds amazing!

Maybe next time, ha ha…

Next time! And all this talk of cake batter makes me want actual cake batter!

Or even better, brownie batter! :O

Oh yes — the best!
