For a tea that is supposed to actually be tea, there is dearly little of it actually in the bag I received in the mail. I see an awful lot of apple bits with some intermittent tea leaves scattered in. Not impressed, Teavana. Apple is cheap; white tea is not. So if the ratio is about 80-90% other things: 10% tea, why then am I paying the price for what I’d expect to be more 60/40 or even 70/30?

And on top of that, the tea wasn’t that good. Very little “luau” flavor came through. I can’t taste any raspberry or pineapple, and after adding some sugar basically I tasted lightly raspberry-flavored sugar water.

Disappointing.

drank Honeybush Mango by Adagio Teas
353 tasting notes

Office sipdown. I picked up a bunch of rooibos and honeybush samples from Adagio. This is the first honeybush I can remember trying (there may have been another. My brain is fuzzy today) and I like this. Not love it, but it’s pleasant.

The flavor is very light. Subtly sweet. I can’t taste much mango at all – maybe some sugar will help. Answer: no – I just brewed a new cup with sugar and the flavor didn’t change as far as I can tell.

This one makes a good iced tea (although I like their honeybush vanilla and honeybush hazelnut more), so you may want to try the rest of this iced.

This is quite delicious. I wasn’t expecting it to be but the rave reviews on the company website persuaded me to give it a try. This is smooth. The coconut gives this tea a real creamy taste and feel. The chocolate is less prevalent but still there in the background. I don’t normally like chocolate in tea – in fact, I have never liked it before. So this is a first.

I’ve sipping the second steeping of this now. The flavor was much stronger in the first steeping but the second steeping is still enjoyable to drink. This will also be the last steep because I need to go to bed soon. But I imagine, like any good pu’erh, I could get a few more cups out of the tea.

This is a very mellow pu’erh tea that I quite enjoyed for several infusions. It’s soothing. I haven’t really been a fan of ripe pu’erh teas but I quite liked this one. It has a very smoky and heavy flavor that was absolutely delicious.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write up your thoughts on this tea. I am really happy you are enjoying it. I just secured all the leaves to make this same blend for this year. It’ll be interesting to see how they differ.

drank Pina Colada by ESP Emporium
353 tasting notes

This tea has the distinction of having both weak flavor and artificial-tasting flavor. SIGH. I am so done with this company. Every rooibos has been a miss (minus one – but the only reason I didn’t hate it was because the flavor was weak). I have some regular tea I bought from them so maybe I’ll try those next to see if they are any better.

I am really baffled because previous reviews said the flavor was really strong. Maybe the company just has a large quantity in stock and it sits on the shelf for a long time losing flavor?

In my head, these two teas should not work together but they do. The predominant flavor is almond, which isn’t surprising since it is in both teas. But there is a cinnamon and other spices behind the almond that is quite pleasant. I wonder how this would taste iced.

Steeped 5 minutes with a bit of sugar.

Pleasant but not blow me away amazing. I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by the teas I’ve tried so far from ESP (three so far, and I still have a handful I picked up to round out my first order with them to try). The flavor in this, like the other teas, is on the weak side. I can barely taste strawberry. The lemon comes through as a slight tartness. Basil? What basil? Oh, there it is but I have to roll the tea on my tongue a bit.

So weird. It’s not a bad tea, but I wish it were MORE.

drank Sugar and Spice by DAVIDsTEA
353 tasting notes

My first tea from David’s fall collection.

I hate to say it but I am unimpressed.

The flavor is so weak. I steeped this for 3 minutes. Even added some sugar. I wish it was stronger. The flavor I can taste is very nice. But it is also leaving some weird taste in my mouth I don’t like.

So I had a whole new tasting note typed up and then Steepster ate it in a fit of pique. (Or, unstable server hosting… take your pick.)

After several months exploring the tea world and drinking oolongs from near and far, I’ve returned to this one to downgrade the rating a LOT. I’ve learned a few things, including what a really good oolong tastes like, and what I like in oolongs. This oolong from Capital Teas contains neither.

The flavor is overall rather weak and flat. It is missing the subtlety that I look for in oolongs, and is almost sour/bitter.

I won’t be repurchasing this after I’m done with the tin.

I asked for a sample of the black tea with amaretto and Irish cream, and came to enter it into the system and found somebody had beat me to it. Great minds…?

This actually was a bit of a disappointment after I fell head over heels with the rooibos blueberry pina colada sample. I found the flavor weak, even with sugar added to the tea. I think both flavors might be better blended with another, stronger flavor.

I’m a tea-aholic. I’ve always loved tea. It is soothing and warm and comforting. I always had it when we went out to eat as a child so my first association is with rich and delicious food.

As an adult, I’m learning to enjoy tea on its own merits, and bask in its subtleties and varieties. The ritual of making a cup of tea is instantly relaxing.

I prefer oolong and white teas, followed by greens. For the most part, I don’t like straight black tea, but appreciate it as part of a blend or flavored. I’ve learned to love the world of flavored teas out there.

I’m slowly learning to appreciate rooibos blends, which I started drinking for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Love: Oolong, almond, coconut, peach
Hate: Ginger
