Sipdown (263)
My tea twin, Roswell Strange, who has greatly surpassed me in all things tea knows two things about me: (1) I don’t really like mates and pu’erhs and (2) I will try almost anything someone shares with me at least once. So in December when she exploded my cupboard, there were some mate and pu’erh samples snuck in…much to my dismay. However, tastes change and if you don’t try you don’t know so thank you Roswell Strange for forcing me out of my comfort zone and having me explore all the things!
Alright, that was basically ramping up to I drank this…and I don’t like it. I was getting real sleepy around 3 and wanted to get some work done so I figured mate would be a great caffeine boost. Alas, this tastes like mate which to me is like the wet ground of a rain forest. Well, what I imagine the wet ground of a rain forest would be. And, it is a touch soapy. Really not for me.
Had this with sprite and I think I prefer it with limeade. Mixed with sprite, the hibiscus tartness seems to be highlighted. In fact, I didn’t really notice the sprite so I think I would have been better off just having this iced. Mixed with limeade it is balanced though.
Sipdown (264)
Yesterday was hot af and personally I didn’t see the appeal of being outside. Since I was in the air conditioning, I was enjoying teas and getting in sipdowns. I had a mere 8 oz serving of this left from the sample Evol Ving Ness gave me, so I brewed it up. Thank you Evol for sharing!
Of course as soon as I brewed this, my sister decided it was pool time. So this tea cup ended up in one of our pool floaties. (Photo: https://www.instagram.com/p/CCPcxA9gOKi/) Not only was this a hot cup of tea outside on a hot day but of course it had to be a more winter-y spiced tea. It was not a great experience.
In addition to it just being wrong place at the wrong time to enjoy this, the tea itself wasn’t great. It was a muddled mix of spices and I can be quite picky. Nothing really shined here so it was mostly just dirty tasting. Still fun to try something new though.

In December I signed up for the Amoda box to get the 52 Teas box. Then I forgot to cancel the subscription so another box of caffeine free/low caffeine blends arrived. None of the blends were particularly interesting unfortunately, especially since they all seemed to have a fresh and healthy vibe which is not my thing when it comes to teas. This was one of the blends in the box. I basically gave all of the sample away, saving merely a serving for me so I could get in the easy Sipdown.
Drinking it now, it’s fine. Not offensive by any means but also not really anything. It’s sort of sweet floral and sort of green rooibos base. Nothing overly flavourful or interesting. I suppose that’s better than bad, which is what I expected. However, it’s not good enough by any means that I regret giving it away.
