Thanks for sharing this one Sil!

It’s very jammy and sweet and paired well with my feta tomato bagel that I had for breakfast…at noon.

drank Cranberry Pomegranate by Chami

Drank this while I read Lore Olympus Volume 2 because pomegranate seemed fitting for a Hades/Persephone retelling. I was nervous because the last Chami tea I had wasn’t great but this was pleasant enough. Generically fruity but didn’t taste like grass so there’s that.

Iced and with salted caramel cold foam this was bomb. So good! Rich caramel flavour. Just awesome!

Made this iced. It’s ok. It’s pineapple. It’s stevia. Not as offensive stevia-wise but not great either. Just fine and mostly I drank it because it’s caffeine-free

Iced Tea Sipdown with Vanilla Cold Foam (213)

I’m visiting my dad in LA and I do not have my usual teas or ingredients or utensils so I made this drink with a lot of effort of trying to offset those issues. I had about a 10 ounce serving of this tea and while I know how much ice I usually put in my 16 ounce mugs/containers at home, I didn’t have a 16 ounce mug to eyeball. As such, this is sort of off balance. I also had skim milk instead of 1%, which makes the foam slightly more watery.

All issues aside, the drink came out pretty well. The vanilla pulls out the honey notes while the black tea base comes through just enough to give this more depth and help sell the idea of cookie butter. It’s a nice way to finish off this blend, which I enjoyed but was never a favourite.

drank Orange Cream Green Tea by 52teas

Sipdown though I already removed it from my cupboard

I had the last of this iced while I’m vacationing in LA. It was okay but I think I just don’t love green tea bases. The orange and vanilla came through and were still really delicious but the green tea base was a touch grassy and detracted from the flavours for me. I know this is more a me preference than a reflection on the tea itself.

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea 21

Watching Stranger Things finale and since it’s basically a movie at the 2.5 hour runtime I had to pick a tea to sip on during. I thought waffles because Eggos but the only waffle tea I had was banana gingerbread waffles and that wasn’t right. So maple since that goes on waffles…plus it’s Canada Day

This was a cheap seeming teabag so I didn’t expect much but it’s not astringent, which was a good start. It’s sort of maple-y and it’s definitely sweet but it’s coming off nutty to me. The nuttiness is throwing me since maple tea should be more syrup-sweet. It’s better than expected but not a favorite.

Still in my cold foam kick and the best pairing is mint tea and white chocolate cold foam. Thanks Roswell Strange for the suggestion!

I’m running low on Candy Cane Crush but i have this tea which fits the profile. This is a touch too medicinal/strong so CCC is better but it still works really nicely.

I know you must have mentioned it somewhere, but do you have a recipe for your cold foam? Some of the flavors sounds so good but I would have no clue where to begin.

VariaTEA

I do!

1/4 cup whipping cream
2 tbsps milk
2 tbsps flavoured syrup – I bought Torani syrups off Amazon
I toss all ingredients into a mason jar and shake vigorously for 30 secs – 1 min and then just combine with a regularly made iced tea

Thank you!!!

All this time I thought cold foam was something you all were buying at fancy groceries! Now I know…will have to try it.

Iced tea with salted caramel cold foam sipdown (215)

The cold foam really highlighted the caramel element here and of course boosted the creaminess to sell custard. Otherwise, the rooibos in this unsettled me as it seemed to be strong in scent. I’m glad it didn’t come through strongly in taste. I don’t know if I would have liked this without the cold foam but with it, it was a lovely way to send this off.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
