Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 12
This was a super underwhelming pull from today’s advent. When I go to their site, it’s just listed as “fair trade green tea”. It doesn’t even specify a type of green tea. So I guess in that sense its approachable to new tea drinkers who heard green tea is good for you and don’t want to be overwhelmed by trying to determine the difference between sencha, gunpowder, etc. For me, it’s just boring. The nice side of that is its not overly flavorful and as someone who doesn’t love green teas, it makes this easier to mindlessly drink while I study.
DAVIDsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar – Day 11
This is for the matcha white chocolate star that was in the advent today. The flavor was not as prominent as the salted caramel white chocolate star was. It was mostly just sort of fruity. Also, the matcha makes these a bit gritty, which I attributed to the salt last time but it happened here as well. Both were similar in taste too which means the white chocolate is contributing a fair bit of flavor and because of that I am sort of indifferent to the stars I have had so far.
I opened the whole advent at once and just gutted all the stuff back in November, and ate all the chocolates one night before bed, and didn’t even know they were flavored, so shows how much I know!
The salted caramel one was a little more prominent I think but mostly they tasted like white chocolate.
DIY Advent Calendar – Day 11
Gong Fu Sipdown (257)
This is dirt to me. I feel bad because it’s appeal is quite genuinely lost on me. I steeped it according to the company recommendations and I just got cup after cup of dirt. And if it wasn’t dirt, it was wet leaves. Thank you Roswell Strange for sharing but this is a no for me.
In fairness, one of the puerhs you send me wasn’t dirt/fishy. It was overly floral which I didn’t like but definitely not what I expected from a puerh. And some of the flavored ones have been tolerable.
I always find puerh to taste like dirt or marshy swamp water, but can tolerate it in the right blends. Yet I keep trying it hoping, one day, it will suddenly not taste like dirt or swamp water…
CuppaGeek Advent Calendar – Day 10
Yesterday we had our Hanukkah celebrations for the first night of Hanukkah. Happy Hanukkah to those celebrating! Then the night ended with a studying session for my first exam this morning. I drank this tea during the study session but as can be expected, my mind was distracted. I did like it though.
Kenneth Ave Advent Calendar – Day 10
This is basically a mint tea with a bunch of other herbals and hibiscus added. I was worried it would taste sort of wonky because of the additives but mostly its just a mint tea. That’s fine but also not interesting. Unfortunately that seems to be the case with a lot of these Kenneth Ave teas – alright but meh.
DAVIDsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar – Day 10
After the success of the blueberry matcha the other day, I tried to recreate it with this raspberry matcha. Alas, this one is a lot more bitter and grassy than the blueberry was. I have not noticed it before but I think that’s because its predominantly put into smoothies which hides the matcha flavor. If you focus beyond the bitterness though, it does have a nice raspberry flavor.
DIY Advent Calendar – Day 10
I am pretty sure Anne’s intent behind this tea was to make it a whole lot of floral. For me, that sounds like a nightmare of a tea but it was sent as a sample to Sil and I and I figured it was worth trying. Though I kept putting it off so it is probably for the best that it found its way into my DIY advent, thus forcing me to finally drink it.
I am happy to report its not as bad as I expected. It’s floral, for sure – definitely getting rose and jasmine. However, its not overwhelming. It’s also not reading entirely like perfume/potpurri. So definitely better than expected. However, still not for me so while I will finish the last tiny serving of this sample, I’d be happy if I don’t see this again after that.
