drank Velvety Vanilla by Tea Desire
6444 tasting notes

Well my taste buds must be off because I am trying this tea that Roswell Strange so generously shared and I am tasting Tetley’s Orange Pekoe tea. That can’t be right. It even smells like the Tetley tea to me. No vanilla in this cup anywhere. This is really quite strange. Oh well, perhaps I will have better luck in the future. Luckily I have at least one more cup in the sample to try and get this one right. Thank you Roswell Strange for sharing :)

I’m not a huge fan of this one, myself. But I get slightly more of the vanilla when I add in a teeny bit of sugar and milk. I really love Tea Desire’s guest service and I think they do a phenominal job with fruit blends/rooibos/mate – but I haven’t found a single black tea by them that I’d want to keep stocked.

It is always sort of upsetting when you need to add something to a tea to bring out certain flavors – I shall try some Truvia but at least now I know that this is not really something I would want to order in the future

Roswell Strange

Agreed – the extra stuff like milk or Truvia should be used to enhance an already good tea. If a tea needs something added to be drinkable then it’s not a good tea :/ This is definitely a blend I’m not buying again, though. There are so many better Tea Desire blends (still looking for a good black one, though).

I’m really loving their White Angel, and a few of their flavored pu-erh’s are also fantastic. I’ve stayed away from their blacks mostly too, although I do have a few. Just okay, so far.

Just looked that one up – sounds really interesting. Their green blends have been pretty 50/50 for me. Right now, I keep Chai Apricot and Asia Cocktail stocked – and I have a bunch of unwanted Japanese Cherry Blossoms (really didn’t like that one, even though it smells awesome). I’m debating trying Oreo Cookie finally; I’ve been putting it off because I strongly dislike oreos but my favourite sales lady said she can only taste dates when she has it. I love dates, so maybe I’ll give it a shot…

MissB

Rosewell, I’m pretty sure I have some here and can send it to you.

Roswell Strange

I appreciate the offer, but that’s ok – I’ll just buy it as a Tea to Go from my local store and determine whether I want to buy more based on that. No reason for you to shell out the money for shipping :) It’s pretty convenient for my to get ahold of it.

Oh, of course! Silly me.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
