761 Tasting Notes
This is one of the many samples that came with my recent Butiki order with our recent co-op order. I only wish that there had been more, but I did get two good steeps, the first one cold steeped for work, the second hot steeped at home after work. Thanks for including it with the order, Stacy! I’ve been pretty pleased with all the Butiki Teas I have had so far.
This is soooo good! It really delivers all of the flavors listed. The strawberries are the juicy front note…it’s the first thing that I noticed. It was more prominent in the cold steep that it started out as. I find the ginger stands out a bit more with the hot re-steep than it did cold, but it was there, mingling with the buttery back note.
This is truly a wonderful green tea blend. I find it to be very warming and comforting. It’s going on my wishlist for a future order.
This one is from Cavo…unfortunatley, I’m getting mostly rooibos, with only a int of cherry, and nothing really almond marzipan like. Maybe it is that I’ve had a bunch of teas today, many of them tart and citrusy, so maybe my buds are off. Reserving rating for anther time since I can’t say whether it is me or the tea.
Wow this is one deliciously beautiful tea!! It did brew up a lot weaker than I was expecting, but the taste is stronger than I was expecting from something that pale. I mostly get cardamon, and not really chocolate. I used the whole packet from Incendiare, but maybe this tea requires a larger amount since the leaves are so big and long??
It’s tasty, but not really what I think of when I hear chocolate chai.
I gave enough for one serving, and that is how it tastes to me too. I intentionally overleafed one time just to see what would happen and the cardamom was just amped up even more. No chocolate to be expected here.
That’s good then, as I might have overleafed were there more in the baggie. It was tasty enough, but the description led me to believe I would get a much more complex and rich taste, and I didn’t get that. I may re-adjust the rating a little higher, but I think it is a little more hype that what I got.
Yeah, this is basically just a cardamom marigold tea, not what I’d really call a (masala) chai. I’m going to have to experiment and mix it with others. As much as I love cardamom, you’re right, it’s not complex and rich enough.
Another Bayswater sample today…this one I picked because of the pizza that I made for dinner tonight. It was whole wheat crust, Classico vodka sauce with arugula, artichoke, and proscuitto. I thought with the basil note that it mught be a good match. And it is, only I guess I’m just not too fond of basil in my tea? I only got a small sample of this, but will likely pass it on to someone locally who didn’t make it to the meet up. I might just ice or cold steep the rest, though, if no one claims it.
I’ll add that this is a darker oolong base. which I think is good for this tea, as it is not too vegetal to compete with the basil.
Picked this up at the recent Vancouver meet up. OMGsrsly was wondering how this might compare to Butiki’s Ruby Pie, which she can’t have because of the graham crackers (ie gluten). Honestly, I don’t think this really compares. Now I cold steeped this today, so I might have a different flavour profile if I hot steep it.
My cold steep yielded a somewhat tart, and somewhat melon-y and juicy taste. I didn’t pick up any cinnamon or pie crust, though as cavo points out, there’s no pie in the name or description.
I’d like to see how this differs with a normal steep.
Stacy said they have a gluten free version, it just isn’t on the site! So I’ll have to get some in a couple-ish months… when I need more caramel vanilla assam, and more licorice.
Yeah Stacy and I talked about gluten free when we were making it since I know there are folks out there with issues. I’m glad she kept that in the background so that you have a chance to try it :)
I got this tea as a last minute sample with our Vancouver meet up a few days ago. I’m a little hit or miss on Earl Grey tea. I like them, but sometimes the floral is too strong. This one is medium on the floral scent, but it is a strong smelling tea, which is actually ok with me, but proper storage would be better. I just have a small amount that was pilfered from ShayneBears sample.
Um, shifty eyes I might pilfer a little more of this before I give him the rest. It’s actually pretty good. At least with the steep I made this morning, I found that the predominant flavour profile was the bergamot, and the grapefruit gently mingled with but, but at the back. This could be because I added a little raw sugar and milk, so maybe the milk made the grapefruit less tart. I am gonna try this iced, and maybe in the style of a London Fog.
I don’t know if this is a repurchase or not yet, but we will see how the rest of my sample goes. It is very spring/summery, and as we head into cooler weather, this may not be on the top of my go to list.
Birthday Tea #3! I finally got my Butiki order from our group order. And this was one of many samples that Stacy tossed in. Figured it was appropriate to drink as on my birthday, and since it is herbal, it was ok for later in the evening.
On first site, it is very colourful, mostly green, but with little confetti flowers like sprinkles on a cupcake. It brewed up light and sort of golden peachy apple juice like. In terms of the taste, I admit I am not getting much cake, but I am getting sweet frosting. I think I prefer this one to DAVIDs version. Might be since it is herbal instead of rooibos based.
Birthday Tea #2! It would have been a sipdown if I hadn’t gotten my Butiki order (and a mega ton of other teas) with out Vancouver swap yesterday. Happy Birthday to me, indeed!
I opted to cold brew this, though up til now I have only had it hot, and cooled off/room temp. I think I like it better that way, actually, though once I revisited the taste, it grew on me as a cold steep.
I am very happy to have this tea again, in a large quantity. :)
Birthday Tea #1…sipdown!
It was the last of my sample from sil, and unfortunately, I over-steeped it this morning. Bah. It was still tasty, if a tad on the astringent side. Sad to see the last of this go, really. It’s why I saved it for a special occasion like today to have the rest.
Mmm, sounds delish.
It really is! It is a green tea with body. Sometimes I find them too light.
