Sipdown! Made this iced, and while I am glad I had a small amount to try, I ultimately don’t think I’ll be getting anymore of this. There is something good, but equally weird about it.

Mmmm. so roasty and nutty and YUMMY!

This is a great genmaicha!

Thanks for sending this to me Dexter!

Dexter

:)) I like this one too. The version with black bean is FANTASTIC too.

Plunkybug

Oooh, sounds intriguing!

Oversteeped this by, um…a lot. Ooops. Sorry tea. But you’ve gotten too bitter to drink, so I need to make something else, since I can’t seem to fix you. Better luck next time.

drank Rhubarb & Strawberry by Lupicia

Brewed this one up this morning, well, afternoon when I actually woke up…it was a little tart from the rhubarb, and a little floral…it was almost like Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait from DAVIDs, only with a black base. Is rhubarb supposed to have a little floral note? Is something else giving me this taste?

I liked this but ultimately threw it into the pile of tea for my friend’s “this day of the year can suck it and I refuse to get older” pile with a few others.

VariaTEA

I found this one was better cold brewed, though still nothing special either way tbh.

Plunkybug

Yeah. I had thought about straight cold brewing it.

drank Milk Caramel by Lupicia

Sipdown! I decided to make the rest of this sample tonight. It’s yummy, but I do like Nina’s Japon better. As to compare to Bird Pick’s Caramel Houjicha, I maintain it is still milder, but really, they are both equally tasty. I get down to LA once a year and pick the Bird Pick one up because it is easily accessible, but if this was, I’d get this too. I can’t say if I like one over the other. I’d need to have them side by side, but I’d wager that this one is just a bit more demure a flavour. The BP is both more sweet and more roasty. So I think it depends on what I want, really, when I am making it.

This one is weird. I am getting a strange syrupy note, that I think is supposed to be blueberry, but tastes artificial to me. I get a bit of an oily sheen on top, likely from the coconut, though that isn’t an issue really. I can hardly make out any true flavour notes. I must agree that I am not fond of the base on this one. I have slightly astringent fighting with artificial with flavour trying to be seen. I tried adding milk and it is only weirder.

This is the first of the Harry Potter teas, but I’m not a huge fan of this one. I hope I like the other ones Dexter sent.

drank Boléro by Mariage Frères

Good, but not great. I know, I feel like I should be getting 50 lashes for saying that, or something. What I noticed most was the base, and much less the fruit notes. I got a slightly bitter and astringent base, so I think that just hid the flavours. I din’t steep too long, and I did let the water cool slightly before using. That said, it was generally an ok taste, not terribly unpleasant, but not amazing either. I may consider cold steeping the rest.

Thanks to Dexter for sending this my way.

drank Sweet Seduction by RiverTea

This would be much better if I hadn’t oversteeped it. I can tell it has a yummy sweet nougat, that I’m really looking forward to trying when I am not sipping a somewhat bitter brew.

I’m going to pay more attention next time so I can give this tea the proper attention it deserves. Thanks for sending this one Dexter!

It’s chocolate, it’s strawberry, it’s pu erh…what’s not to like about this one? I always find that chocolate pairs very well with the more earthy and rich notes of pu erhs. Also, I find that the strawberry cuts through some of that thickness quite well. So I think this is an excellent tea!

Flavors: Chocolate, Strawberry

Come onnnnnn July :)

I know, waiting for those things can be so hard. I have some hair stuff I ordered ages ago, but the girl who makes it was hospitalized for a bit, and only recently completed my order (they’re all custom) and sent off…on May 16th and still in Chicago. Grr.

ohfancythat

But then when it comes in the mail it’s the GREATEST DAY EVER!!

Plunkybug

Totally!

I tried making this pretty much the same way I did it yesterday for the amaretto, with the exception that I heated the milk a little in the microwave before adding it to the cup to froth. I’m not sure if that made a difference or not, but I had a hard time picking the hazelnut out in this one. Yesterday I could clearly taste the amaretto. So I might try the cold milk again and see what happens with another flavour.

I generally like a lot of tea. I do find I have a preference for flavored over unflavoured, but I do love a good straight tea as well.

Likes are too hard, since there are a lot. Dislikes are easier, so here they are…

Hibiscus. Blech. I can tolerate a little, depending on the brew, like Berry Good from Davids and Ruby Pie from Butiki…but in general, it’s too tart and too strong for me.

Licorice. Anything that remotely resembles licorice is out too, so that includes fennel and anise. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Florals. I’m cool with petals in the tea to make them look pretty (except rose), and I’m cool with teas like oolongs having a floral note, but strong florals can give me migraines. Rose and jasmine are the biggest offenders. This is one where it can vary on the blend, as I can handle Teavivre’s Peach Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea because there is very little jasmine actually detectable in it.

Rooibos is hit or miss. I can do some, but not others. I handle green better than red, and honeybush better than rooibos.

My ratings don’t have a particular scale or method, and may on occasion contradict themselves, but I’m honestly not fussed about that. Sometimes I don’t even rate at all.

Um, I have an extensive wishlist. It is both a list of things I want to get again, and things I want to try. If you are sending me something, and you want to know which is which, I’ll tell you via PM.

Yes, I do trades…usually on request though. See something you want to try in my cupboard? Just shoot me a message and I’ll see what I can do!

Uh, guess that’s it.
