I was surpised at how good the rooibos base was, I expected a cheap/low quality rooibos, but I actually loved this one. The vanilla is nice too. It steeps a nice deep orangy red and can be resteeped but loses some vanilla flavour.
Flavors: Fruity, Rooibos, Sweet, Tree Fruit, Vanilla
Preparation
I remembered to use the last of these bags for my first proper cold brew of the year! I was pretty convinced I’d forget, but for once I’ve been true to my plans. I used three bags in just over 1 litre of cold water, and left them in the fridge for around 12 hours overnight. The result is pretty delicious. The initial sip is very heavy on the peach, and quite sweet. Then the orange comes out in the mid-sip and adds a mild sharpness that complements the peach really well. The ginger emerges towards the end of the sip, and lingers as a warming spiciness in the aftertaste. It makes for a really refreshing drink, with peach the main star and reassuringly natural in terms of taste. I’m actually quite sad that I’ve finished this one – I’ll certainly look out for it this summer in case it makes a return!
Preparation
A sample from Miss B. I made up a cup of this hot today, because I’m odd like that. It struck me as a bit perverse at the time, but I really wanted something summery and peachy, and it’s warm out, so I decided to go for it. I’ll really have to start bringing cold brewed tea to work again now it seems like summer is finally here, and potentially to stay. This is a strong candidate for one of my first cold brews – I have three teabags left, so I’m going to save those for that. I can see it working well!
This is just fine hot, though. The initial sip has a strong, sweet, fuzzy peach flavour. It’s a touch artificial, but not outrageously so. The mid sip is mostly orange (I’d say blood orange, if I had to pin it down). Again, it’s not entirely natural-tasting – more like sour orange candy. There’s a tartness at the end of the sip that makes me suspect there might be a touch of hibiscus at work, but it’s pretty subtle so I’ve no real complaints about that.
The colour of this one is the most surprising thing, to me. It’s bright orange! Usually, fruit teas with hibiscus are either a tell-tale pinky colour, or outright deep red. This is neither, which is novel if nothing else. Artificial colouring, though? How else would it be so orange?
I know this is Tetley, and bagged, but I actually like it a lot more than I expected to. It does taste like a Bellini, without the alcohol or grenadine, and although it’s a little on the artificial side it tastes pretty good. I’m looking forward to trying this one iced in the days ahead.
ETA: GINGER! I knew I could taste something in the background, and then it occurred to me in a fairly blinding glimpse of the obvious. It works pretty well with the orange, so I’m happy. Even though ginger isn’t one of my favourite things, it didn’t stop me enjoying this one!
Preparation
Even though the flavors are really basic, I really like this combination. Chamomile and lemon work so well together, and I like that the lemon is not overly acidic. It makes a really good iced tea. I steeped the tea bag several times for about 45 seconds each time.
Flavors: Citrus, Floral, Fruity, Lemon, Sweet
Preparation
This tea tastes weak and watered down to me. Not a great flavour. Average at best.
Flavors: Green
I went away this weekend and this is what my friends had for tea. Well, this and Tetley Orange Pekoe, so I drank both but this didn’t impress me but you’re totally right Kristal, it does in a pinch! It didn’t help that when I wrote the review, I was tired and grumpy! haha
Haha that’ll do it!
I’ve had loose leaf green tea from a local tea shop (International House of Tea) and it still isn’t comparable to regular green tea. The decaffeination process makes it taste different. I really like iHOT’s decaf vanilla sencha though :)
I totally agree with you! Decaf just tastes different! I’m guilty at times of drinking green, white or black tea too late at night and then having trouble sleeping but most of the time I can drink it in the evening and still sleep fine, just lucky I guess! There is one decaf green tea I like fairly well though. Decaffeinated Korakundah Green Tea with Lemongrass
by Celebration Herbals. That’s about the best one I’ve tried so far. I do prefer my tea with the caffeine though! LOL
Ooo that one sounds nice too :)
I love green tea but unfortunately I’m sensitive to caffeine so I have to limit myself to 2-3 cups in the morning. Then herbals for the rest of the day.
This tea has been on my wish list for about a month, and I impulsively bought it after work today along with one other kind. For a bagged tea, this is quite good. It’s start with a mildly sweet honey flavor followed by a herbaceous taste from the lemon balm, lemongrass and other herbs. Quite nice; reminds me of honey vanilla chamomile from Celestial Seasonings except more herbaceous.
Flavors: Herbaceous, Honey, Sweet
Preparation
So I’ve tried making this tea 3 different ways within the last 24h to make iced tea. Here are my results:
Attempt 1: 5 tea bags in 2L pitcher, cold brewed for about 20h. Result: very faint peach/fruity taste with a gross, bitter aftertaste. (possibly from the orange peel since it’s the second ingredient) Quote from the husband “It’s like ‘mmmm, peach!’ but right afterwards: ‘ugh, ass!!’” Dumped the whole pitcher down the drain.
Attempt 2: brewed 1tea bag in 10oz of 200F water for 1 min, placed mug in freezer for 2h to cool down. No bitter aftertaste, but still, not a very strong peach/fruity taste.
Attempt 3: 2L of 175F water, 5 tea bags steeped 5 min then removed. I poured myself half a mug and placed mug in freezer to cool down quickly so I didn’t have to wait as long to try it. Peach/fruity taste is maybe a bit stronger, but still not strong enough. I had this problem with the peach tea from Celestial Seasonings as well. I guess since it doesn’t have hibiscus to give it “umph” it just tastes watery to me.
Overall not a repurchase for me. I will use this tea with Luscious Watermelon from DAVIDs TEA to use it up (faint peach with apple/watermelon taste should be nice) . At least with all my experimenting I used up 11/20 tea bags.
Flavors: Bitter, Peach, Tart
Preparation
Oh no! This is the one I recommended for you to try. Sorry! I guess I liked the fact that it didn’t have hibiscus
haha no worries. Reading the ingredients it honestly sounded great. I think I have bad luck with peach & mango teas. I’m still going to try more Tetley herbal fruit blends for iced tea though :)
I find this orange pekoe bitter and overly tannic. The colour is a strong orange and there is a slightly malty flavour and smell to the tea. It isn’t a terrible tea, but I do prefer other brands of orange pekoe.
Flavors: Bitter, Malt, Tannic
Preparation
These are super handy when I do hiking or on trips. I like to but them with ice and very cold water. They are quite sweet due to the amount of sugar in them, more like juice than tea. The flavour is very nice though. Sweet, flavourful, fruity, and the tea is not overly bitter.
Flavors: Blueberry, Fruity, Honey, Sugar, Sweet, Tannic
Preparation
Definitely not the best earl grey (their vanilla earl grey is way better, as is Tazo brand earl grey), but the bergamot is there. The generic black base isn’t bad (although it isn’t spectacular). This works best as a latte in my opinion. Dairy milk and vanilla soy milk are great with this blend.
Flavors: Bergamot, Spices, Tannin
