I have never heard of Prince of Peace Tea so I googled it. Okay, some of their teas got decent reviews on Amazon. I brewed it up. It was a tad bitter, so I added a dollop of flavored honey. I was given a ton of those flavored honey sticks. Unfortunately, the labels saying which bundle was which flavor, so I am guessing it was cherry. Kinda tastes like cough syrup. The honey, not the tea. I think a plain honey or even sugar would have been a better choice. The honey overwhelmed the tea. As it cooled I found myself enjoying it more. If I were to ever have it again I would cut back on the sweetener and drink it after it cools for a few minutes. I am giving this one a cautious recommendation because I did enjoy the second half of it.

Grabbed this from a tea box to try. It tastes like licorice, mint, and a too savory weirdness. I’m not drinking this for health effects, so I have to say I’m not the biggest fan. It was sort of unpleasant.

This tastes like celery? I don’t like it. I also taste maybe something mildly minty and a stronger licorice. The main flavor is definitely celery. I had someone else try it to confirm. Bleh. Definitely one of my least favorite tea box finds.

June 2023 → a tea that was a gift

Eh, this isn’t great. It’s super old though, so I’m sure that’s the reason. I only have a couple of bags left so I may just steep those up together to see if that gives me more flavor. These tea bags were a gift from a coworker several years ago.

I try not to drink caffeine after 3pm, or at least not much or often, but I’m really struggling to stay awake this afternoon. I oversweetened this one, added a bit too much honey to the mix, but I’m enjoying the roasted qualities of the cup. The notes on Steepster give this tea high praise for a bagged oolong. I don’t drink oolong often so I couldn’t say how it compares, but I’m enjoying it. I have a few more tea bags left, shared by a coworker some time ago, so I’ll be able to try it again with a lighter hand on the honey jar.

I’ve been drinking and logging tea the last couple of months but admittedly haven’t written down many notes since Steepster changed hands. There was too much uncertainty at first and I was afraid any notes I left here would be lost so I got out of the habit of writing them down. I know there are still some users having issues, but I’m seeing new tasting notes on my feed regularly now so I’m feeling more confident in leaving my notes here again. I hope the site continues to improve, especially for those who are having so many issues with errors and login/access. I’m sure that’s incredibly frustrating.

I got this in a package from a friend a while back. I finally got to it this morning. What a nice morning pick me up! It’s strong, sweet, creamy, chocolate-y, and strong notes of chrysanthemum. I was surprised to find such notes in a bagged tea, but I sipped it down and rebrewed the bag, allowing it to sit in the cup while I drove around.

I may have to add this to my list for when I need more tea for my work desk.

Urgh, Steepster ate my note. And it was slightly humorous. My note has vanished and so has the humor.

I came home from lunch to review a tea instead of proceeding to the tire shop. I have an obsession.

Unknown pot size, unknown temperature, steep time somewhere between 3-5 minutes. This organic, bagged Chinese green tea has a strong enough aroma and tastes to cut through a full Korean lunch of beef bulgogi and banchan. Another reviewer said punchy, I say indeed, despite the lack of any bitterness. Grass, lemon, mineral, light seaweed and very faint smoke. If there was any sweetness to this tea, it was masked by the sweetness of the fish cakes. A solid accompaniment!

My favorite bagged Oolong available at the supermarket. Relatively simple and smooth flavor, but the cost makes it well worth it.

Should have read my previous note before throwing seven grams into the pot. Now it is way past midnight and I am as chipper as a squirrel with cheeks jammed full of nuts. Serves me right for forgetting I have a large quantity of oolong to drink through and losing my rhythm with them. I think this is a perfectly good daily drinker. It benefits from a good rinse, but smells awfully nice, every time. I don’t understand how Prince of Peace can sell this for such a low sum. I could just be not that spoiled yet with regards to oolong. I hope it doesn’t contain massive quantities of pesticides or something. Maybe it is just a case of lazy packaging. I’m no expert, but the contents look pretty heavily roasted to me (and tastes like it also, compared to the actually green oolongs I’ve had in fancy tasting shops), while the company description claims it is greener than most oolongs. Maybe this is just more proof that greener oolongs are more in vogue these days and people don’t reach for the more roasted stuff. I like the oolongs roasted and toasted, though. Shrug.

Yesterday I used Szechuan peppercorns generously in my soup and my tongue has not yet recovered. But this tea is pleasant today. I think all previous times I had done 5g, but maybe that is usually too much caffeine for me. Will have to try all the teas with less leaf.

From time to time, I have friends that will bring me individual tea bags from teas they have bought so that I may try them. This tea was given to me in this way. The color of this brew is darker than I expected. It is a deep golden color, sort of like honey. It could be the length of steeping that caused it turn out so dark. The taste isn’t anything particularly special. It is mild and slightly bitter. Definitely easy to drink.

I’ve had bad experiences with other teas before but if you are looking to get a decent complex, delicate, refreshing flavored inexpensive ti kuan yin tea try the prince of peace brand. because here is my overall experience:

Prince of Peace’s Premium Ti Kuan Yin Tea is actually good. However it has a somewhat medium to mild floral smell similar to Jasmine but the taste is actually pretty good it’s a semi fruity undertones with a mixture of floral herbal taste and a bit of umami mineral like taste.

And the liqour brews to a yellow gold color. It tastes good (sweeten and iced). However you can brew a cup of this hot and sweeten with Honey and it would be a delicious delicate fruity undertone tea.

Yet it claims to be an Ooolong just a “lighter oxidized version” oolong. To be honest it’s more of a Green Tea with fruity and floral undertones. I am exploring the different steep times and temperatures. I’ve noticed instead of brewing it for the typical 5 minutes that you would with an oolong.

I’ve brewed it for 4 minutes and unlocked a slightly different flavor undertone. And strangely it has a slight umami taste to it which I would identify as a mineral like. So basically umamish mineral fruity flavor. I am trying to figure out the fruity undertones.

But it’s hard for me to pinpoint what type of fruit it taste like due to my lack of eating enough variety of fruit lately. People claim an apricot like flavor I cannot say it isn’t either. It’s been awhile since I’ve had apricot flavored goods like candy.

I guess you can say there is hints of an almost apricot like flavor. I wouldn’t say it’s heavy in this tea just a nice subtle almost apricot like flavor. It’s just hard to say the flavors of this tea is monotonous it’s more complex and depending on steep time, temp of water and other factors that come into play while brewing.

The flavor is a mixture of delicate and complex with some umami (l-theanine content). However this pre-packaged tea bags are 1.8 Grams per bag.

I used 2 tea bags (3.6 grams of tea leaves) in 6 ounces of under boiled water. I brewed it for 4 minutes (I’ve experimented with 3 minutes and 5 minutes. I feel like 4 minutes does it more justice due to complex flavors) I also used 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar to sweeten it. I used 2 large ice cubes to cool it down to make it slightly chilled.

I did my best to “clean my palate” and even ate a little bit as I drunk this tea. I feel like it’s refreshing, easy on stomach, great tasting, however the aroma is more on the floral side instead of fruity. But you can sort of smell hints of a sweetness hidden under the layer of floral aroma.

I almost thought the tea had jasmine mixed in but there is none. I am honestly not a fan of jasmine green tea but this Ti Kuan Yin Tea is very good. But mind you the floral aroma might have you cringe as you take your first sip and you realize it’s not too bad.

I cannot say the flavor profile doesn’t contain a floral like flavor it does but it’s not bad as you would think like Jasmine Green Tea. It doesn’t taste like soap. Maybe I just picked up a good batch of Ti Kuan Yin Tea bagged? The tea contained a tiny printed note with a name both in english and chinese of somebody who inspected the tea.

Since it is a Product of China. And it is a commericial brand located in CA. Prince of Peace.

So overall and tl;dr footnotes: “Ti Kuan Yin” pre-bagged tea from Prince of Peace (at least the current batch I’ve purchased).

The overall review is: Medium grade Floral (Jasmine-Like) aroma hints of fruity sweeteness in aroma.

Flavor profile: Light refreshing complex flavor profile that doesn’t dry out your tongue. With a fruity umami mineral semi floral flavor profile. Possibly apricotish undertones. I do detect a floral taste but not overwhelming. Very light floral taste. The tea taste better than it smells if that makes sense? (Ps: I am not a fan of JASMINE Green Teas).

Liqour color: A bright golden color (not urine color).

Overall: I enjoy this tea. I’ve not really bought the Prince of Peace brand before. But it seems if they’ve brought forth a decent variety of “light” oolong and it does have a decent delicate yet complex taste. I might try other varieties released by them. I was shopping and looking for loose leaf decided to pick up a box of this because I seen they had “Ti Kuan Yin” I was like wow I’ve heard about that suppose to be a fruity oolong that’s popular in China. So yeah I actually enjoy this tea. I don’t care for the aroma to be honest I am not a huge fan of floral aromas in tea products. I’ve had a bad experience drinking and trying Jasmine Green Tea never again. I was almost kicking myself when I brewed this “light” oolong due to the fact it reminded me of the Jasmine aroma but surprisingly it doesn’t taste like an overpowered jasmine green tea and taste very interesting, light, refreshing and complex. So yeah I guess it’s almost like some sort of fancy expensive-like tea.

This tea is one of my favorites for unwinding during a particularly stressful day, and it’s quite inexpensive (as all prince of peace teas are). Definitely consider picking it up if you happen to see it!

Although this green tea isn’t really Japanese style, I still enjoyed it for its sweetness.

First let me say, my family has gone through about 4 huge bags of this tea! It comes in packets and you pour it in 12 oz mug or larger. It depends though, the smaller the container, the stronger the flavor. They are tiny yellow granules that melt into a yellow semi-frothy colored fluid. It is VERY strong ginger. It has that nice spicy bite to it and the hint of sweetness from the honey crystals. I definitely do not need to add any sugar. This is absolutely delicious, and helpful during those colds and sore throats!

Very light and not bitter, this is my favorite green tea! This is the type of tea that I can drink daily (and I do, in the morning). Not only that, but it comes in large quantities for a very affordable price. So yes, I would very much reccomend this tea.

I think this is an excellent tea for brewing up a half gallon and keeping in the fridge to serve cold. It’s really a nice tasting mellow oolong with that classic Wuyi Mountain mineral note aftertaste that originally got me into higher end teas. I brew this with slightly cooled off-the-boil water western style. I steep 5 tea bags for 5 mins in about 1/2 quart of water and then pour the hot tea liquor into a stream of cold tap water (we have excellent cold well water) to fill a 2 qt serving pitcher. I usually have mine sweetened with a bit of lemon at the time of each serving. The tea pairs well with just about anything, and is probably as good as you’re going to get with a bagged tea for an every day general purpose beverage. I paid $7 for 100 tea bags. Hard to beat it. I’ve seen some highly negative reviews for this tea, so maybe I got lucky and got a good batch, but my box of tea tastes nothing like the negative reviews. In fact, it is so good, I would love to have some friends over to blind taste test it, and I would bet money that they would rate it higher than some loose leaf.

Dark oolong that is amber in color and has a floral mineral aroma. Steeped two tea bags in 8 oz of water for three minutes. Decent cup of tea with a fruity, orange, floral flavor. I was looking for an oolong in tea bags for easy travel use and this tea fits that need.

Terrific mellow green tea. And organic! This is my daily green tea, it doesn’t become bitter easily, which is a huge bonus. Comes in huge quantities.

A very unassuming, yet punchy green tea. This is the kind of tea you drink when you want simple, fresh, no fuss green tea without fumbling with loose leaves and strainers. While not the best, this is VERY good for the convenience and no fuss nature of its preparation. Each sip is flavorful and rich, just the way I like my green tea.

Really scored at Grocery Outlet with this Pu-Erh! I have paid way more at Whole Foods for the same. Yum!

This instant tea mix has just the right ratio of honey/sugar and ginger that preserves the spicy nature of the ginger while softening it with just enough sweetness to prevent it from becoming overwhelming.
