OK… I dumped out my first chawan of this (as you’ll notice from my first tasting note, it was not suitable to consume), and after reading through some of the other notes on here for this tea, I thought I’d go with Azzrian’s idea and turn this in to a latte. I used warmed milk instead of hot water and prepared it with my hand held latte frother, and it turned out quite good.
It isn’t a strong peachy flavor, but, there is a peachy flavor there. The milk does mute some of the peachy tones, but more importantly the milk also manages to mute out the chemical-y taste that I was experiencing and found really distasteful. Not all of the chemical taste is gone, I can still taste ever-so-faint notes of it, but it doesn’t disrupt my enjoyment of the peach and matcha flavors … and fortunately, the peach and matcha flavors are stronger than the chemical-y taste which was not the case with the first bowl.
Now I taste sweet peaches along with sweet, vegetative Matcha all in a very creamy latte. It is tasty, although, I’m afraid I can’t go all gushy over this tea because of the fact that it had to be served as a latte to get a good flavor from it. I would really rather be able to enjoy this served traditionally. But, the chemical icky taste prevents me from doing so.
My order specifications for this Matcha were the classic grade of Matcha with the distinctive level of flavoring. The fact that there is a strong chemical taste to this one isn’t going to taint my overall experience with Red Leaf Tea – because for the most part, I’ve really enjoyed all the Matcha that I’ve received from them. There have been a few unfortunate experiences – particularly with this Matcha and with the Apricot – but, the others that I’ve tried, I’ve enjoyed.

Oh dear… this one isn’t good. I’m sad, because I had wanted to try the Peach and Watermelon Matcha together as a combination, but, I do not want to try this in anything. This is very chemical tasting, just like the apricot. It is just not good. Horrible is more like it.
I’m sad … I really wanted to like the peach because I love peaches. But I don’t taste peaches. I taste icky chemical-y taste. Not good, not good at all.
Makes me a little glad i changed my mind on this one. But at the same time i REALLY wanted a good peach matcha
sigh me too. It’s a little better as a latte, actually, compared to the traditionally prepared, the latte is much better, but, it is still not as good as it SHOULD be. Or as I wanted it to be.
Heh well I only do it latte or smoothie style so that’s good. Is it chemically like the pear is but isn’t?
I didn’t taste the chemical notes from the pear. This one, when prepared traditionally, tastes like soap.
backlogging from yesterday as we had friends over after work and i had no time to myself to relax! I had this in smoothie form yesterday with a splash of vanilla matcha and chocolate matcha and it was delicious! I think coffee/mocha smoothies are my favourite these days because of the creamy way in which the milk blends with the flavouring. It’s better than a frappacino :)
mmmmm not too many entries for this, though I most assuredly have had almost all of it. The problem is, that i tend to use this as an addition to other matchas in my smoothies. English toffee coffee? Chocolate coffee? french vanilla coffee? Caramel coffee? :) I find that the coffee matcha does a great job of cutting through the sweet and bringing that balance to my smoothies.
Today though.. it was two smoothies! first the straight eng toffee one and then this one! Maybe tonight will be a french vanilla pumpkin pie latte :)
So the downside to the way i make smoothies is that I don’t really have any sort of accurate tracking on when i’m using my matcha since i have a tendency to make 1 dominant flavour but then i add bits and pieces of other flavours to enhance it. Today it was a coffee matcha smoothie…but i added a bit of french vanilla and some chocolate. i’m pretty exhausted today so i was hoping that would help.
So apparently this is my lucky week! My other matcha order arrived this afternoon so I have 5 new matchas to review woohoo! I promised Rachel that the Coffee Matcha would be the first that I review when they arrived, so when I got home, I settled down to enjoy at least the coffee matcha tonight :)
My matcha order was the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
When I first opened the packaging, a weird smell emerged from the gold foil. It first smelled a bit like coffee then like something burnt and then my other half commented that it smelled like those wafer cookies with the fake icing in them that you can get in brown, white and pink. He made sure i didn’t think he meant the pink ones lol
It’s cold and raining out today so I opted for a warm matcha coffee latte! This is a strange matcha. It’s “almost” coffee but then there’s this “other” taste that I can’t quite place. Of course now all I can think of are those wafer cookies. I think though, it’s somewhere between those white wafers without the tang from the icing and a hazelnut coffee.
It’s not a bad matcha….but it’s not what i expected. I think in my head I was looking for a coffee matcha that tastes like coffee smells when it’s freshly ground and brewed in your house. This is not that type of matcha. I’m thinking that maybe I’ll get closer to that by trying the Espresso matcha and then adding a bit of caramel or cheesecake to it. Heh I’ve also got the mocha matcha at home here to try as well, so I may try that one right after this for comparison’s sake.
All in all, I’m still glad that I tried this but I may need to try one off the other coffee flavours from RedLeaf to see if I can find one that’s closer to the idea in my head.

Well my sandwiches that I made I can’t eat because I got an email from my Mom telling me the bread had gone bad and I wasn’t to eat it. So I got up at 4am to make myself lunch for nothing. At least I had a good cycle in to work and some money for the Cafeteria food.
I’m just so glad that my matcha is awesome tasting and it is helping my brain to wake up.
Preparation
I find myself enjoying the Caramel matcah more lately but this one is still pretty yummy! It’s not quite time for pumpkins (says Who? tell them it’s always time for pumpkins) the leaves haven’t turned yet and Halloween is still sooo far away despite the costumes and stuff being in stores already. Is it me or is there something wrong with having Christmas and Halloween stuff out before September? Says the girl drinking pumkin tea…. back to my yummy matcha.
I made this at a warmer temperature for my latte :D I liked it better. Also my order from Red Leaf Tea arrived so I have maple, peanut butter and more caramel to try :D
Preparation
I made this before I left for school using my new Breville Variable Temp kettle. I decided to try it at 175 and then added my milk it was pretty yummy. I think now that I have this new kettle I will try one of my matchas straight again to see the difference :D
Preparation
you may just tip me over into buying one of these sooner rather than later. I was originally going to get the tea maker but i think the tea kettle is all that i really need.
I like it so far. I’m using the green tea setting for the matcha :D Although for Good Morning Sunshine I believe the temp is labeled oolong… I bought mine on the Stash Tea website for $129 and then had to pay Shipping and Handling… grrr.. a big company like that should offer free shipping and handling over $50. I do love the kettle though :D
