Have you ever had a situation where you like something so you order a lot of it and then because you have a lot of it, the thought of drinking so much of it makes you not want to drink any? Or maybe it’s just me. My brain isn’t making any sense right now.
Anyway, made a champagne matcha latte, have enough of this to get through that I really should be making one on a more regular basis, at least on par with how often I have the creme brulee matcha. We’ll see.
Ending the work day with a cup of this! 3 pots of tea (2 shared) and 4 matchas makes my stash go down just a bit further. Someday I will log all the unopened boxes in my entryway. That day is probably not today, but you never know.
Drinking this again! Hot matcha latte. Tasty tasty. This is the one of my order that I got a large size of when I ordered, so I’ll be drinking this pretty frequently over the next couple of months. I used half a teaspoon of sugar on this and it almost tastes too sweet, so with skim milk, it’s a pretty healthy treat.
First off, I made this badly. Must remember to dissolve in hot water BEFORE adding milk. Possibly also use hotter water. Or at least warmer than room temperature milk.
Champagne is not my favourite thing so I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this. It is a gift in trade from momo since I asked her to surprise me.
I added a bit of german rock sugar and it sank to the bottom and is dissolving now but I took a sip and I don’t think it actually needs sugar. There isn’t the horrible sea weed flavour I got from the peanut butter pie matcha I had last week so I’m very happy about that. I also think this is pretty true to the champagne taste, from what I remember about champagne. I haven’t had it in years since I stopped drinking alcohol a couple of years ago because of medication conflict issues so the memory of it all is fading. Much like I don’t remember what meat tastes like anymore since I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 8 years now.
Drinking more of this, I like it a lot, surprisingly. I could totally down this like water, lots of it. Something to think about for my next Red Leaf Tea order. All the ones I’ve ordered myself have been black matcha base but I haven’t actually tried them out yet. I bought a matcha whisk that came the other day and I should really try it out. Here at work with this champagne matcha, I’m just stirring really fast with a fork.
Preparation
I finally made some of this cold by adding about 3/4 of a teaspoon to a water bottle and shaking like crazy. It is quite awesome!!! It would probably be even better if my water was actually cold, but I had to try it :) I bet I could even get the boyfriend to try matcha this way, as it is more cherry flavor than matcha I think when it’s done this way. Refreshing too, I will have to make matcha like this more often! Not sure how much I will drink of it tonight as I need to sleep in like half an hour though lol. See previous notes on this matcha hot!
The black tea helped my headache, but I thought some matcha won’t hurt, as long as I don’t stay up all night from it! I mixed this one and some French vanilla, had with hot water as usual. I am finding the flavors a bit muted..maybe because I used less matcha, but most likely because I’m not drinking it fast enough! My goal is to have matcha at least 3 times a week, the massive matcha sipdown, as I have like 5 open in the fridge that need to be devoured before they are devoid of flavor. Nonetheless, this is still tasty, the green tea taste is very enjoyable and not too harsh today. See previous notes :)
So my friend came over tonight and I made her her favorite cup, Strawberries & Cream by Della Terra, and I asked her what I should have. She said matcha! Haha so I took out my matcha stash and told her to pick which ones, and told her I can also mix them. She originally wanted me to mix almond, black cherry AND french vanilla, but I am hoarding my almond haha, so I just mixed black cherry and vanilla. And yum it was delicious as usual. Made just with hot water, no sugar added, lovely! See previous notes on these matchas and this combo!
Preparation
Oh yeahhh. This is another one of my blends, Black Cherry and French Vanilla matcha. I decided to put it under the black cherry because it just seems like the fruit is a bit more of the center when blended with french vanilla. I don’t really know the ratio, it was close to half and half, maybe a touch more cherry? In total, about 1 tsp of matcha, maybe a bit more. Whisked it up, didn’t have quite enough water I don’t think because it wasn’t frothing that much, so I added a bit more and then there were bubbles! Once again, just hot water in this, as I am going to try to introduce my friend to matcha later this evening and she will probably want a latte haha, I might make an almond or caramel one with milk for us :D. This smelled kind of funky, like a weird creamy cherry haha, but it tastes pretty good! The creaminess is definitely present, with a lovely fresh cherry aftertaste! The black cherry by itself is a lot more in your face cherry punch, but this is a nice mellow sweet thing! No added sugar required! And the matcha flavor is still there too :) I like the French Vanilla flavor in this! Score for a tasty mix, much preferring this than the blend of blueberry and french vanilla. Huzzah for my new matcha obsession (addiction?). Also, random note so I don’t forget, I need to try adding honey one of these times just to see what happens hehe.
Third and final matcha of the day. Oh, and I left a bit of french vanilla in my cup earlier and it cooled off and was delicious! Will have to try making them with ice at some point :D anyways, onto this one.
The smell, yes,as DaisyChubb said, is spot on nibs, but leading into a juicier scent of black cherries. But yeah, mostly nibs, now I want nibs!! Haha, so I sifted and whisked 1 tsp of this delicious smelling matcha, which is basic grade, robust flavoring I should add, into hot water and am trying it this way first as per usual. Mmmm the smell is sooo good! I got a tiny bit of that cherry medicine in the smell, but only a bit, and it’s mostly delicious cherries. And as for taste, another delicious matcha! The flavoring is lovely here, nice and fresh matcha with a black cherry aftertaste. I love black cherry ice cream, and this hits the black cherry pretty good, so I can’t wait to try it with the cheesecake or vanilla to add the creaminess! I must say, the fruit matchas are a lot more fresh and natural to me with the matcha, but I really like the dessert ones too. I might add a bit of sugar, as I did with the blueberry, to see if it brings out the cherry a bit more.
Overall, I am really enjoying this one. And hopefully this will give me the kick to continue working on my giant project for my financial class. Another excellent matcha from Red Leaf! :D thanks Sil and ashmanra for the flavor suggestions again!!
ETA: I added a bit of sugar. Guhh. Now this is full on CHERRY. Yess. I cannot wait to mix this with the dessert matchas, as they will provide the perfect sweetness for this one sans sugar. But for now, I will sip this away and be content. :)
LOL! You’re welcome, and we all influence each other. I saw your post earlier about French Vanilla and had to go make myself a smoothie with some! :)
Daily matcha time! I’ve had it the past 3 out of 4 days, so some doing pretty good (the day off was when I made my homemade chai). Did half this and half black cherry again with just hot water, hoping it kills my massive migraine ughhhh my head feels like it’s being squashed from the left side ugh :( go caffeine go! I really like the creaminess from the French vanilla that it adds to any other cup! I’ll try to keep up having a cup a day, for my health, to de-stress mostly. Matcha seems to help me calm down in a weird kind of way haha. Anyways, I’ll enjoy my cup and hope this headache subsides. See previous notes!
Wow I have to drink down my matcha lol its been kicking around for far too long! I mixed a quarter tsp of this and the black cherry today, whisked with hot water and my new whisk and giant kitchen whisk to get some froth, and topped with hot water. Both these matchas still smell really good, but the flavor is mostly green tea with vanilla creaminess. So the French vanilla must be holding up better than the cherry haha. I’ll try to have matcha once a day to use up my open packs, then I can tear into my cheesecake one which is unopened from a while back too, but should hopefully still be good. See previous notes on these teas!
:( my poor matcha…I forgot about it in the fridge..this one has very little flavor left and is also a bit bitter. Sadface :( I will try the other two I had in the fridge too, but they might not make it..luckily, I have an unopened cheesecake one from when I bought them all, I should have saved more of them! Ah well, it’s still drinkable. Oh and I finally got a matcha whisk a few weeks ago too lol, it didn’t do much for this one today. I even added a bit of milk and its just not the same as it used to be. Anyways, see previous notes for what this matcha really tastes like..awesome!!
Oh and btw – not having this to wake up haha, matcha usually makes me quite relaxed for some reason, I have had it before bed a few times and I sleep really good lol, strange effect but that’s how it goes
ETA – I dumped the latter half of the cup :( not quite what I was looking for tonight unfortunately, boo for my tea abuse! Makes me sad :(
Matcha 2 of the day! I have to space these out quite a lot lol, my caffeine tolerance is not the best and if I down all of them quickly my stomach will heavily protest. But it is now the right time for another one, and oh my goodness, does this smell like vanilla! Sweet, soft, delicious…mmm, and so creamy! This is even creamier than the caramel, I think.
Once again, I am trying these just with hot water and whisking to taste them plain before I mix them with milk and sweeteners and such. I also got basic grade and robust flavoring for this one, with the 3 + 1 matcha deal that Red Leaf has, which is awesome! So yes, I whisked this up and the scent wasn’t quite as strong, but ohhh boy, does this taste good. I whisked this a tad longer than the caramel as there were a few lumps in that one from not enough whisking. This is smooth, fluffy and creamy! The vanilla flavor is PERFECT in this! It’s not an overpowering, ‘ugh too much frosting’ vanilla, but a rich, decadent yet light and fluffy vanilla flavor. Like a perfect little cupcake but so much better for you! I don’t taste the matcha as much in this one, in the caramel it was definitely a bit more present, but it works in this case as it did with the caramel. I got this one to mix with other flavors, but I definitely will drink this by itself quite often. And I haven’t even tried it with milk yet! This one can hold its own, and I like it a lot. Oooh that’s what it’s like!! DavidsTeas’s vanilla oolong! Yes. This is quite similar but less of the tea flavor and more vanilla :D
I really like this matcha. It’s creamy and satisfying. It’s light and soft. It’s excellent. If you like vanilla, I highly recommend this matcha. It’s awesome!
Yes they are awesome, thank you for the suggestions! I am getting sweet overload here though haha might have to break out the black cherry next before the cheesecake :P
I use just 1 tsp or a tiny bit less :) it seems to work fairly well, especially when you just use hot water, what kinds are you getting?
I just ordered boysenberry matcha (because I am addicted to the taste of redbull). There were lots I wanted to try but did not want to make a big order until I tried it first. But on the list is cola flavoured and peanut butter flvaoured. I also got some of the wine infused teas.
Mm boysenberry sounds good! I’ll be watching for tasting notes on it and the wine infused teas, I’ve been wanting to try a wine infused tea at some point, hopefully soon :)
This is my third time trying a matcha. The first time I had just a basic matcha and prepared it in the traditional way and I did NOT like it. The 2nd time I had white chocolate matcha from Red Leaf and made a hot latte and thought it was pretty tasty. This time I had pumpkin pie matcha and made it into an iced latte using the cocktail shaker method. I like how easy it was to prepare this way and the flavored matcha with ice and sugar and milk was very good! Honestly though, you could add a bunch of milk and sugar to pretty much anything and it would taste good to me, LOL. I’m not sure if its the matcha I like or just the pumpkin flavoring here. shrug
Azzrian thanks so much for this one! It’s dandy!
It’s sweet but not too sweet! It’s butternutty! LOL – Seriously, tho…it has buttery, nutty, butternut squash, fluff, sweet-sugary, matcha notes all happening! Impressive! It’s more like I am eating a meal than drinking a tea/matcha!
Slept in even later than anticipated, so I thought I could use a boost. Oh yeah, and sip down too! I’m short on kitchen utensils right now so I mixed the matcha and soy milk with a spoon in my glass.
It was a nice, cool treat on another sunny day, but I’m not going to miss it. It was nothing special, really.
LOL! I love how everyone’s tastes are so different. I have a friend who almost gets DT’s if she doesn’t have this one. I adore the almond matcha and my daughter dislikes it. She only loves the pumpkin pie matcha, and so on and so on! I must confess, I tried some of this one from my friend, and it was fine but it didn’t ring my bell.
Time for another matcha review. Seeing that my Caramel matcha kicked the bucket, I thought it would be appropriate to start this one. As a side note, I’ve never actually tried English toffee before but the smell of this alone makes me want to go out and hunt down the real thing.
I ordered this in basic grade and “There’s Matcha in There?!” level of flavouring. I’ve been going all out on the flavour.
Dry, this reminds me of Caramel matcha but it’s much creamier. Maybe there is a hint of chocolate but I can’t pick up any nuts. But honestly, that doesn’t matter to me since overall, it smells quite tantalizing.
Prepared, this definitely tastes creamier too with a hint of chocolate mixed in. Not as gooey as the Caramel but in a way, it still faintly reminds me of it.
Like the other flavoured matchas, I prefer drinking this as a cold latte. This time around I whisked it with a little hot water, added about a cup of 1& milk, and was extra bad and added a splash of Pinnacle whipped cream vodka.
I can see this one being really good with steel-cut oats and a bit of brown sugar.
Sipping on a class/cup/mug of this is a million times better than downing a sugar-laden cup of English Toffee cappuccino at a café. A by far healthier option and tastes better too.
English Toffee matcha is available here with other tea bases and levels of flavouring:

Right now I have opened packets of this and Macadamia Nut, and packets of Bee Pollen, French Vanilla, and Irish Cream. We certainly should!
Got a cup’s worth of this as a sample from Alphakitty when I told her to surprise me for our trade. So far it’s worked out pretty well!
The taste of this is interesting. I’ve never made matcha before so making it at work with a mug and a fork and some hot water is not the ideal circumstances, but I tried to make do. It was green, certainly, and not clumpy so there’s that.
This does taste like peanut butter, though I’m not sure about the ‘pie’ part. I also picked up a sort of…almost salty flavour, from the green tea itself maybe? Tasted almost like seaweed, though that must be wrong. It made the whole experience vaguely unpleasant. I have some black matcha at home that I will try soon so I hope that next try will be better.
Preparation
Green matcha can have a vegetal/seaweed note, I think if you don’t like green tea much black matcha will definitely be more pleasant!
Interesting, I hadn’t encountered that in regular green tea before so I didn’t know to expect it. I hope my black matcha experience will be better. Thanks for sending the sample though, better to know these things before I go out and spend money on it.
