1598 Tasting Notes
Not too sound tooooo much like a snob here, but I was not expecting this much flavour from a bagged tea!
It’s robust and spicy without being in your face about it, and the coconut is fantastic even with the faint sunscreen association I have with coconut.
Thanks Incendiare for the sample!

Preparation
I’m so intrigued by this – I loved their egyptian mint (I think?) and raspberry earl grey, back when I lived in Vic – ttly grabbing some next I see Zhena’s anywhere…
Ok – time to be brave today and try this tea! The little bear is distracted with Sesame Street and a ham wrap so I should be able to give this tea the focus it deserves!
First sip is… pepper! Then light oolong notes paired with jasmine floating in the background, followed by what I assume to be the frankincense and saffron. (I haven’t had them before so can’t tell what’s what). Aside from the strong pepper notes, I’m also getting the creaminess that’s sorta soothing.
I can get behind this tea! It makes me feel alert, yet relaxed; warm and comfortable. I don’t think this would be a ‘must-stock’ as there are other Verdant blends I enjoy more but it’d be interesting to try again in the future.
I’m looking forward to see how the flavours change with the next steep (or two?)
I love how we all can drink the same tea and get different things from it. Reading everyone else’s reviews shows me that I’m the only one who was hit by the strong peppery notes!
Careful with your brewing basket. The frankincense resin melts and can be difficult to get off. Stainless baskets are better than Finum plastic baskets… (I love this tea!)
I just opened my new package. It smells different from the old stuff CrowKettle gave me! I understand how you get peppery notes. :)
Mmmm. To be honest I wasn’t sure how excited I’d be to drink this again. It was so hit and miss from what I remember. (Sorry ShayneBear) So, because of this I’ve sorta had this 25g pack sitting unopened on my tea shelf for MONTHS.
Today was the day to crack it open, and it’s great. This mix has so many anise stars in it – at least one for every cup I’ll make, and that’s a big part of what I want from this tea. The base is smooth, and slightly sweet – I can definitely taste the licorice, chocolate and coconut. OMG.
Just, OMG.
Preparation
I sorta wish I had now. It’s cooled quite a bit and I’m still enjoying every sip of it.
It’s still on the website, but I don’t think I could justify getting that much! I"ll decide after I find a job AND have a few more cups.
And it was Stormy Night that was the BIG disappointment. I remember this one was less hit or miss.
I’ll give that a shot! I remember I grabbed some teas in store last year, then sniffed the Stormy Night sample as we walked out the door, obsessed about it for the next 20 minutes and ran back to grab 50g.
Boy, was I disappointed! I’ll be sure to overleaf it when I drink it next.
Ceylon Star was on sale $5 for two 25 g packs today at David’s. I am not sure how long the sale will be on for but it is something to look into if you like this tea.
Thanks for letting me know. I actually bought 50g in store but couldn’t do the deal as they didn’t have ANY tea 2/$5. She told me the promo had ended. :( Guess I went to the wrong store!
I heard from a store employee yesterday that they are really retiring this tea, so get some while you can!
This seriously tastes like juice, without all the sugar. It’s really refreshing. I grabbed 50g for $3.50 or so when it was on sale and u only regret that I didn’t get more.
This is staying in the fridge as a staple for my toddler. She won’t even need juice (well, except for the vitamins…)
Preparation
Thanks Courtney for sharing this! I love this tea for the adorable cow sprinkles, but I don’t know that I would buy any. Not with 5 oz left of Read My Lips sitting on my shelf.
But… cows!
I haven’t reviewed this after several cups. I guess it’s just not what I was hoping for! Not enough lime, not enough strawberry. It’s sorta basic and plain.
I’m not that upset about it as Bayswater had plenty of other teas which I enjoyed more.
Sorry Root Beer honeybush! I enjoyed the first few sips of you and then was quickly consumed by fanigirlishness. And I never thought I’d be a fangirl, but I ship Johnlock so hard it’s all-consuming.
And I don’t care who knows it. :P
It started because I read this fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/240332 (Seeds), and followed that up with this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiYyv_vQokw and now I just want to jump up and down and squeal and be the happiest.
So, in short, this tea was very good, but I don’t think any tea would be able to distract me when I’m so ridic happy.
So Andrews&Dunham just posted a sale, which was VERY convenient after we were discussing shipping prices in the US swap thread, and I sorta LOST MY MIND.
I ordered a tin of Mount Grey as it’s been on my list for 4 months or so now, just waiting for a shipping sale. I should have checked with other Canadians to see if we wanted to share a 3 pack or something but, nope, I just HAD TO HAVE IT.
I put out 4 resumes today to decent places. I’d be pretty excited if I got in at any of them, and hopefully I’ll start somewhere before my tea arrives and Joe raises an eyebrow at me. :P OTOH, $50 for the month isn’t that bad…
This tea is so great. If you like malty Assam’s (with fruity undertones?), and very pretty tiger tins, go pick one up RIGHT NOW.
