1598 Tasting Notes
Wow – I totally called this – it has Egyptian chamomile! After drinking it in a DAVIDsTEA blend I guess I have a taste for it. But this is much cheaper than any DT blend. Intersting.
Thanks VariaTEA for sending some bags my way!
I am glad you enjoyed this. It really was not for me. It tasted like a strange chamomile lollipop. I have more if you are ever in need!
I personally was not a fan but I don’t particularly love chamomile to begin with. I am happy to share if you are interested.
Oh no, I’m fine, but thanks for asking! You remind me of how I should start drinking more chamomile-based stuff again. :)
And here’s another cup of this!
I have to say this is probably the best of the Murchie’s teas. Well, or that I don’t really care for Murchie’s teas – they are so finicky and often require milk and sugar in order to make it good. I’m sorry Murchie’s. I’ve probably spent about $50 on your teas and I wish I could love them more.
MissB had this yesterday and it reminded me that I asked Sil to add some to her order for me, and then I hadn’t tried it in the month I’ve had it.
And everyone just GUSHES about how amazing Mandala teas are!
So I’m pretty happy with this one. I’m on my third steep in my 16oz mug, and will be going for a 4th fairly soon. It’s not as rich as I had thought it would be, and I was initially shocked by the puerh taste, but then it’s been a long time since I’ve had puerh so that’s not that surprising. It’s dark and earthy with a nice rich chocolate taste to it. It’s really amazing. Seriously. It’s not that often that I’ll drink 64 oz of ONE tea in one day. That’s saying something.
And with that in mind, this is by far worth the price. I’ll have to try some of their other puerhs. I’m just happy I started with this one (I could only justify buying one, but I think this was a great choice).
Preparation
Thank you again VariaTEA for sending me some of this. I know I was complaining for a little about not being able to find this ANYWHERE in stores so I was really grateful for the sampling of CS tea bags!
And this is really good. I always cheat with tea bags and throw 2 in my 16oz cup just to make sure the flavour is strong enough, and it was the right call here. I really get Sugar Cookie from this. Like, actual cookie and sugar sprinkles. Amazing!
I’ve got 2 more bags of this that I’m excited about.
It is not cheating because 1 bag is for 8 oz. You had the proper bag:oz ratio.
Also I am glad you enjoyed it. I feel like I am the minority because to me this tasted like soggy crackers.
Excellent!
Also, I’ll try not to think too much about soggy crackers as I sip the rest of this cup down as I can be VERY suggestible with flavours. ;P
Nah. It still makes me think of sugared shortbread.
Thanks VariaTEA for this! I forgot I had it when I implusively bought a sample of this on the weeknend. Whoops! But since it was in my spreadsheet twice this counts as a sipdown (162!) AND lets me try a tea I was curious about.
I think I should have steeped this longer – it smells amazing! Strawberry and cream and wow! Sadly, the taste is much milder than the scent suggest.
I do get some strawberry and cream. I just wish it was more. I’ll have to remember to try steeping for 7 min when I have the other sample of this!
Preparation
This smells like a strawberry milkshake and I think that is why I am refusing to completely get rid of it. However, I have sort of been off cacao teas that I also have not been inclined to drink it so it sort of just hangs out.
I quite enjoyed this one! The Mint and Vanilla variations weren’t for me, but this one I enjoyed so much I ordered 50g. :)
I don’t know if it’s that good!
Ha – Yvonne – I just realized that you’ve got 90+ teas in your cupboard, and most of those without tasting notes. You should work on trying all those before you worry about what else you should try. You’ll NEVER try everything.
If you always worry about ‘new’ teas, you won’t appreciate the ones you already have and will always be buying more! Just some advice because I know how crazy/overwhelming it can be when you first get on Steepster.
I actually just took a look and you’re right – I DO have a lot to get through. Gotta get drinking I suppose! My parents already give me crap for supposedly drinking too much tea :P
Haha. It adds up quickly, eh?
But when I first got into Steepster I felt I had to try ALL THE TEAS, and while that’s a common idea, it’s that’s just not sustainable.
I was always excited about the teas that were coming my way and then I sorta neglected the already premium teas I had sitting there because they didn’t sound as exciting as whatever fancy new tea had caught my eye. It was sorta silly because I was always chasing something I couldn’t have. Now I try to focus on enjoying a few staples in my cupboard, while exploring some newer teas. But I have accepted that I will never get them all. And that I don’t need to because the differences between a lot of teas are so slight that they really don’t matter.
Sacriledge maybe? :P
I get teased for drinking too much too. But at least my stash looks deceptively small. :D
You’re very true and thank you so much for the advice! I really appreciate it :) You’re certainly wise.
Words of wisdom, Cavo!
I know I have bought a million teas and swapped for a million more and now get stressed each time I see how many different teas I have in my cupboard.
VariaTEA – Totally! It’s pretty easy to go from 50, to 100 to hundreds…
I remember when I first started, after my first online order I had 24 teas and I was nearly ashamed of that! Now 150 is “normal” and I’m still above that! /0\
I think ALL THE TEAS is something that infects a lot of new Steepsterites. I know I was like that and look at me now with a gazillion teas. I’m not opening new ones until I drink/give away/trade all the opened ones but it is such an undertaking.
Haha. I like how we all had the same experience. I remember when I joined and saw people had cupboards with like 150 teas I was like “I wish I had that many teas” and now that I am over 200 I still wish to have a cupboard of only 150…or less.
I went through my teas today and I’m adding the ones that weren’t in my cupboard already. Passed 400 just now.
Yep, I’m another crazy 400 gal, and let’s just say that I’m missing out on stuff often. I’ll try to find it, knowing I have it… and it’s just hiding. I’m trying to whittle it down, however I’ve hovered around 430-ish for a while now. I’ll be thrilled with about 50-75 that I love, with the rest swaps in/out or new things to try to get around the 150 mark like many of you who have been around these parts longer.
I keep forgetting about this one and I still have about 3 oz of it left! That’s at least half of it gone at least!
This has a dash of milk and a decent amount of maple agave in it. YUM.
I really need to drink a lot of this done before spring because it’s best in the winter cold, and I don’t think it’d still be good for next winter. It won’t be hard – I just need to remember how good it is!
Who doesn’t like smoke and sugar and maple?
It’s not terribly smoky – not quite as much as a lapsang souchong! And of course the milk mutes most of it. I don’t really have the energy to do a proper swap, but if you’re curious about it, I can stick a little into a baggie and send it your way!
I’m not going to lie. I’m never curious about smoky tea hahaha. But thanks for the offer! I actually still have that Della Terra smoky Professor Grey sitting in my box which was supposed to go out to Kittenna when it was originally discontinued, and it never happened. Have you tried that?
Haha. Fair enough – just thought I’d offer since we’ve done swaps before. :D
And, I can’t say I have had it before?
Cavo, I can send some your way if you’re game. But I warn you, it’s semi-smothered in sprinkles. If you or Sil don’t want to try it, then I know I can just ship it all off to Kittenna, that is if she still likes it.
Thanks for the offer, but I’m doing ok in the sprinkled tea category. Also, I’m always happy when Kittenna gets more tea!
Ok well either way, I ought to send stuff out to the eastern Canadian front sometime. If you see anything in my cupboard that catches your fancy, let me know. :)
oh..i responded to the other comment SC (swedish chef) – send it to kittenna, i can always pick up a cup from her someday haha
I had this earlier today and I’ve got enough for one serving left. That’s good too because I’m just not a fan. It’s a bit of cream, and not enough cookie.
Thank you VariaTEA (and MissB?) for this sample? Without even reading the note I could taste the apricot and peaches – it was so fruity and sweet. I am enjoying this, and I suspect that it would be a cold-brew staple in the summer time!
Sipdown (163)
Preparation
Oh, it has strawberries in it, which I’m allergic to, however it was missed on the label. So, I shared it easily! :) Got it at Holt Renfrew as well.
Hmm… I don’t think I’m too crazy about this. It’s mostly puerish. I’m not getting much else.
But I have one cup left to try to make my mind up!
Aw, boo. It is a pu-erh, which I’m learning now is not your thing VariaTEA. Had hoped it would work out or others though, as I do enjoy this.
Meh. I’m still happy to have tried it! With a name like chocolate truffle I may have been tempted to buy some, and then I would have been disappointed!
Names always get me. I am getting better at stopping myself when I see it has pu’erh or something I know I don’t like.
I have successfully not yet ever purchased from teavana haha
You can always pass along/sell whatever I sent. There is a lot there so if you don’t love it, you shouldn’t force yourself to drink it.
Yeah, there’s hardly any tea in this one. There’s lots of mate, so at least it’s caffeinated! :)
Oh sure, Sil, just rub it in like you’re SO MUCH BETTER than us. :P
And VariaTEA, I’ve already drank half so I don’t mind it! It’s just not mind blowing, but it is nice for a wake me up on the bus. Something good that I can smell. I don’t like drinking al ot of teas in a travel mug, but this one works well enough.
:P Poor tea-deprived-tea.
Cavo…haha hardly “better” just less gullible maybe teasing
Oh, sure, I’m totally gullible. Don’t mind me, I’m just gonna drop $100 at Davids because THIS TIME I won’t be disappointed. :P
(I’ve learned a few lessons) Also I’ve only spent $40 at Teavana in my history of tea!
haha 40 isn’t bad :)
The secret is to get them separated. Or get a worker who is willing to put heavier maharaja then samurai chai in when mixing to make it taste correct. Otherwise you get too much samurai chai (sorry, this comment is probably coming a little too late). But if you do it you’ll see a huuuuuuuuuge difference. :D
