This is really good iced. Like really, really good. I wish I’d figured that out an ounce ago!

Intriguing! I used to mix random fruity teas w/EG when I lived in Vic. Loved blueberry in there, but it was a weird rooibos tea ;) (also grapefruit tea – NOM)

Sipdown!

This is a backlog from earlier today – too bad I was too busy stressing out earlier and didn’t really get to enjoy the last of it. Now I don’t know if this is one I’ll want to purchase again later on or not.

Oh well. I have plenty of other teas to enjoy.

drank Red Velvet Cake by DAVIDsTEA
1598 tasting notes

I thought I was going to love you forever. What happened, Red Velvet Cake?

Maybe I have less of a sweet tooth now so I don’t enjoy it as much as I used to. Or maybe I’m just having an off day.

I still have 50g left to figure it out.

…it’s not you, it’s me.

Fjellrev

The SAME thing happened to me! I bought the LE tin and about 1/3 of the way through, it became much too sweet for me. It tastes like sugar on steroids.

Rob Rauschenberg

I want to try this one, although its sweet. I’ve had the Red Velvet Cake from Simpson & Vail but it is a red tea blend.

Shmiracles

i see this one as a gateway tea. so many people who i invite over for tea want to try this one first. then they go home and begin starting their own tea collection!
i almost never drink it myself, but i love using it to get friends hooked!

ne14t

Makes a great latte, I have been finding myself doing that with a lot of my sweeter tea’s recently.

Alysha

Happened to me too! I had it to go and fell in love with it. Then I bought it and had it a few times and still haven’t reviewed it as I can’t decide how I feel.

Ozli

Yep! Maybe it’s that we’re heading into spring? Needs less sugar than going into winter.

TeaLady441

Hmmm. Maybe it’s a Gateway Tea. I could see that! But the Spring Theory has some merit too.

Lattes sound like a good idea.

drank Copabanana by DAVIDsTEA
1598 tasting notes

Wow – there are A LOT of things in this blend. I can’t taste them all but I CAN taste the banana. That’s the number one. Then I can taste a bit of chocolate, coconut, almond, and mushy fruitiness. This almost makes me think of Malibu. I wonder what it would taste like if I mixed it?

Tonight is not the night to find out.

I’m going to sit and sip away at the rest of this pot, and rate it another day.

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 6 min, 0 sec
Fjellrev

I keep meaning to pick up some Malibu for Frank’s CCP. I can imagine it would go well with any tropical tea.

drank Coconut Oolong by DAVIDsTEA
1598 tasting notes

I sorta ended up at a DavidsTea today to look at the new teas/stuff, even though I hadn’t planned on it. :| #whoops

I walked out with 20g of Coconut Oolong, CopaBanana and Pom Tango, and a to-go cup of Daydreamer and only spent $7. Not bad!!!

I was really excited about the tea because I ADORE Zen Tea’s version (http://steepster.com/teas/zen-tea/30457-coconut-oolong) and wanted to try this version.

So, I think that means that it’s time for a SIPOFF!
DRY
Zen Tea:
-dark black/green leaves. no sign of coconut
-very slight coconut smell

DavidsTea:
-light green/black leaves with lots of bright coconut flakes.
-stronger coconut smell. slightly musty
-smaller leaves

STEEPED
Zen’s Tea:
-very smooth, buttery with lots of spinach notes
-pale yellow colour
-fresh “oolong” taste

DavidsTea:
-far less butter. not nearly as smooth/light
-rich. more spinach?
-almost nutty?
CONCLUSIONS:
So this was a tricky decision but I think I still prefer Zen Tea’s blend over this one. They are both VERY good, but DT’s is a little darker/mustier than what I’m accustomed to. Perhaps if I steep it for less next time, my rating will change. Also, DT’s blend is a bit cheaper so I honestly don’t know which one I’d restock once I run out.

If you are at all interested in the tea, give it a shot though!

Fjellrev

Wow, you do a great job pimping Zen’s. I still can’t wait to try this!

TeaLady441

Had I never tried Zens, I would be head over heels in love with DT’s version. I still am in love though – I don’t rate a lot of teas this highly. :P

TeaLady441

(The point being, I’m sure you will love DT’s if it sounds like a thing you’d be into).

Fjellrev

Hell yeah, coconut oolong? Those two must be a match made in heaven.

drank S'mores by Della Terra Teas
1598 tasting notes

So when Frank announced this week’s blend of Genmaicha S’mores, I bought it without hesitation. I hope it’s as good as Browncoat Genmaicha. I also picked up a Raspberry Strawberry Honeybush because more decaf options are always good and that one was rated so highly.

Anyways… now I’m in the mood for S’mores and I won’t get my order for about 2-3 weeks (stupid shipping to Canada… #grumblegrumble). This will have to tie me over! Actually… I’ve only got enough for one more cup after this one so I better make it last.

Fjellrev

Browncoat is that good, eh? Funny, I’m patiently waiting for this one to come in the mail. Should be here any day now, but you make me want to snap up some of Frank’s, yet I want to try this one first. Ugh!

I hear you on the shipping. I just try to forget about the order altogether haha.

TeaLady441

I really enjoyed it, and I think CrowKettle missed it after sending me a sample. :P

Hope you enjoy the S’mores! I t’s not an every day sort of tea, but when you’re in the mood for it, it’s just perfect!

Kittenna

Raspberry honeybush??? Memory not recalling that one. heads to 52teas site

TeaLady441

Oh, whoops. :/ It was strawberry (with cinnamon and vanilla…)

Sil

i know a few people over here have had issues with the browncoat so i think it’s hit or miss. heh.

drank Phoenix Pearl by Zen Tea
1598 tasting notes

Ok how is this even the same tea I rated earlier? I drank it and immediately thought that this was amazing and my new favorite tea! I brewed it Western Style, and this is very smooth, delicate and lightly sweet. There are some really tasty flavors that I love but can’t quite narrow down, except cocoa and honey!

I will have to order some!!!

Thx ozli!

Are yunnan teas normally like this?

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 3 min, 0 sec
momo

cocoa and honey, that’s them! I didn’t think this was as malty as like a dian hong but it’s still so good!

Daisy Chubb

mmm I’m having some as soon as I get up tomorrow now!

Ozli

this one resteeps so good too!

OMGsrsly

I just found this one in my box of teas to try (which I forgot about because I’ve been rearranging my kitchen). It’s up next! Fingers crossed. :)

TeaLady441

I hope you enjoy it! :)

OMGsrsly

I’m shocked! I actually do.

Thanks Mercuryhime for the sample!

After reading the reviews and finding that this is one of the ‘fancier’ teas, I whipped out my little gongfu pot for serious tea brewing business!

It was worth it. I steeped it three times, and I really enjoyed the buttery green flavours. I tastes a little sweet and a little citrusy as some of the reviewers have mentioned. Maybe I should have steeped it for longer but this feels like a delicate green, suitable for quiet reflection (as opposed to some of my flavoured blacks that are good when I’m juggling 5 things at once and want tea that comes to me, instead of me sitting down to enjoy it!)

Preparation
165 °F / 73 °C 0 min, 45 sec
Mercuryhime

So glad you enjoyed it! I do love this tea, but I feel like my tastes don’t really tend towards greens anymore. :( Might be good for stash busting if I did green days and oolongs days and so on.

TeaLady441

The problem I have with greens/oolongs is that these teas generally do well (or better) when you resteep them, so it takes A LONG TIME to sipdown. (And… of course for some people this is an advantage, but I have days where I just want to tidy things up, and get rid of odds/ends. So I could dedicate a day to greens or oolongs and only finish one off. Wah.). :P
