1598 Tasting Notes
Goodbye, goodbye!
That’s one less Murchie’s tea in my cupboard. I’ve learned my lesson. It’s not really for me now that I’ve seen what else is out there!
#teasnob
(Woo – down to 125. Maybe I can get to 100 before my Verdant order arrives! I think it ships at the end of the month so that gives me some time).
Sipdown, and thank you to Courtney!
I’m happy I was able to try this because I tried Lime Chiffon and Lemon Lime Tart but not the original. I have to say that the Lime Chiffon is by far my favourite. I’m just a bigger fan. The Lemon IS good though, and I can see why people enjoy it. Now I no longer have to wonder about it!
I still need to get around to doing my comparison of the three! I think Lime Chiffon will win out for me (I also have the most of it, so that would be good!)
Lime Chiffon won for me too. My fiance preferred the Lime so now we have both in the cupboard. Win, win.
This is pretty refreshing, although I oversteeped it a bit and the rooibos is really strong. Noticeably stronger than the black tea at least. Aside from that I do get a bit of creamy coconut and mint and it’s quite enjoyable.
I should really try this iced though. I have a feeling drinking it warm isn’t doing it justice.
ETA: The creamy mint notes linger long after each sip…. Mmmmm…
Preparation
I was fantasizing about Mint Julep the other day and since I didn’t have any I steeped North African Mint hoping for similarity. I mean, it’s mint, right? WRONG! So didn’t do the trick for me. (It’s probably like saying all blue cheese is the same)
Mmmm… Thanks again CrowKettle for getting me to try this tea! :O Now I know I love Yunnan teas. I even over-steeped this one and it was still great, albeit a bit malty. (Sidenote: albeit is a pretty sweet word eh? :P)
So this was a sipdown. I know I’ll need to replace it, but maybe not with this one. I have had better Yunnan’s, although not from companies that are as easy to buy from as DavidsTea. Yunnan reminds me of Zen’s Phoenix Pearls, which reminds me of Verdant’s Laoshan Black. Yunnan is the poor man’s Laoshan Black?
Oh – I’ve spent more time here than I have on facebook/twitter combined. I <3 Steepster!
Preparation
Oh, I love Zen’s Phoenix Pearls way more than Laoshan. I don’t really see a comparison.. the Laoshan seems completely different to me.. maybe I should try another cup.
I should’ve ordered some Phoenix Pearls when I went to stock up on coconut oolong. Everyone seems to love that tea.
I prefer the Phoenix Pearls, probably because they are “laoshan black lite” – less strong, less earthy, less roasty. :) Every time I check, they’re out of stock. Makes me so sad!
Has anyone found an alternative to Zen’s Phoenix Pearls? Just curious as I thought it was a fairly common type of tea.
Glad I’m not the only one who considers it laoshan-black-lite. :)
CrowKettle – have you tried it at all? I might have enough to send you a sample.
I have some! I’m just scared of running out and then not being able to find it again. I’ve never seen them offered anywhere else, and took a chance on the tea and love it.
Yes! I know that feeling! I was hoping to find a replacement too, just because I’ve heard a bit about their poor customer service and I don’t like to support that if I can get the product elsewhere!
I totally forgot about this tea: http://steepster.com/teas/teavivre/26683-fengqing-dragon-pearl-black-tea. My impression was that it was just as good, if not better, than the Zen Tea.
Looks like the phoenix pearls might be an iron goddess. It’s so hard to tell because we don’t have all the information.
those teavivre ones are the ones i am trying to see if i want as a staple…versus teavanas or possibly the other company that nicole recommended
OMGsrsly -it IS hard. All I know is its made with Yunnan leaves, like the teavivre ones. Ilu Yunnan!
Sil – I’ll keep an eye out on which one you choose. This should be a staple for non-Laoshan Black days!
I’ve been too busy to log all my tea, but this was a sipdown. A fantastic tea too! As soon as I get my coupon from Verdant I’m placing an order for 1oz! :O
I’m getting apple butter from this one. Wow. I didn’t have that before, but I brewed this western style. Gawd, this is so good.
Preparation
This was the tea that I drank the most of today, but today was my daughter’s first birthday and she was getting over a cold so basically between that and the ongoing crowd of people, I wasn’t able to let go of her the whole day. So, I couldn’t really make a lot of tea. :| I’ll live – it was a great day overall, and the baby felt better during the evening so she could visit everyone else.
I can drink all the other teas later!
This was in my Amoda box! I finally got around to reviewing it after packing half of it up for TerriHarpLady.
Now I almost wish I wasn’t sharing it!! Bahahahahah. (Not really though – I have some excellent samples coming my way).
I was surprised by this. It’s smooth, yet astringent in a good way, bold, and a touch smoky! I should have had this in the morning, but I’ll resteep it and stay up instead. It’s almost a little creamy too? Wow. I’m happy I gave the Amoda box a try!
400th note!
Preparation
I was surprised by this one too. Always nice to try a tasty unflavoured black! PS Sil, if you want some of this from me, you’re welcome to it.
Thanks! I just checked your website and the prices are very reasonable! Maybe I will be able to stock up on more of this one!
Yes, it’s this one: http://us.the-devotea.com/store/products/undecided-try-them-all
Ehehee! I have so much of this left!
