1598 Tasting Notes
Interesting! I’ve never had fennel tea on it’s own like this, so when KittyLovesTea said she wanted to get rid of some of her unloved teas, I snatched it up.
I didn’t really know what to expect, but I knew these would be something like licorice. THis would probably have to be an acquired taste, but I’m happy I got to try it out! Now if I ever blend my own herbals, I’ll know what Nettle and Fennel are all about.
I’d had this twice in the evenings now, and I’ve really enjoyed it, but I find that I’m just too busy with the baby, and packing lunches etc etc that I don’t really have much time to hop on the computer.
So this is to remind that YES. This is a good pu-erh. It doesn’t really taste like pu-erh which I suppose could be a bonus for someone like me who’s afraid of getting too much dirt in their cup again.
Preparation
And another sipdown!
I tried to drink the Clipper Assam that I got from KittyLovesTea but I think I oversteeped it. It was bitter and awful and I’ll have to pay more attention to it when I try again later!
I drank this instead, but it might not have been the best choice to follow my matcha drink with. I think I’m getting a bit spinny. :| Maybe I’m not as caffiene-tolerant as I thought, or maybe I’m just consuming more now that I’m at work all day?
Questions. Questions…
I drank this one for the sipdown! I gotta make room for all my incoming teas!
It was very nice though. Not sure I’d go out of my way to buy this, but I wouldn’t say no to getting more in a swap.
Thanks again CrowKettle for helping to introduce me to matcha!
I’ve only got one bag of this left. :O
I’m almost tempted to buy more while they’re 15% off but it’s not worth $15 in shipping. It’s not. It’s… not. I’ll stay strong! (But people sell it and Florence in Canada, right? Cuz I’m hooked now!)
I better not impulse buy though because KittyLovesTea just sent me a huge package with 12 samples in it, ranging from just 2-3 tea bags, all the way up to 50g! Yep. That’ll take a while to get to!
And Sil just sent me an extra generous package today. Also, TerriHarpLady did too (although I think hers will be more reasonable in size! Haha). And I think I’ve still got one more swap coming in after that.
And my Verdant tea order should ship this week. And my Butiki order will also ship this week.
OH GAWD. WHAT HAVE I DONE. :P
(I’m at 125 teas now. Let’s see if I can creep that down a bit before the rest trickle in). I’m making a noob intro pack to loose leaf tea for my sister and we’re both so psyched. I bought her the yellow peacock Perfect Mug and a Perfect Spoon. Now I’m going to choose 20+ teas to give her samples of to show her the best that loose leaf tea has to offer (that I have), and send her a cheat sheet on how to steep them for best results! #oneofus #oneofus
Yes! So good! I added a touch of cream and that was pretty awesome too.
My birthday isn’t until July but I’m already trying to decide what company I want to splurge on with birthday money (my bf doesn’t like gift shopping so I might just buy my own present – bwahaha). Debating on a H&S order, Red Leaf matcha order, or renewing my Amoda boxes for 4-12 months. (Or a combo? IDK).
Now that I’m back to work and my income etc seems to be fairly regular, I’ll be tracking my expenses on a spreadsheet again, so I have a feeling my tea purchases will decline as I have a visible papertrail to shame me. :P
Deciding over those companies is tough! Have you been enjoying your Amoda boxes? I was fortunate enough to try a few of their selections at the Vic tea fest and it was too hit or miss for me to justify throwing money at you-never-know-what. If I were you I’d go with either H&S or Red Leaf.
PacifiCHA Faction ought to get together and split a selection of matcha too. That would help with all our expenses, I’m sure.
Yeah I might let the Amoda box lapse for a bit. It’s a nice novelty, but unreliable. I guess this last box will be the deciding one as it’s led me to try teas (like Lord Petersham) that I wouldn’t have found otherwise.
Splitting on a Matcha order might be a good idea, especially if we do the buy 5 +2 option or something like that. I just am hesitant to jump on more orders as I get so busy it’s hard to meet up with people and pick/hand-out the tea. This butiki order is my experiment to see how well it works!
I really liked the amoda box just to try new things when i wasn’t feeling adventurous AND when i was just trying to get a handle on the things i like/don’t like. Now i prefer not having it since i’m getting good at finding companies that do sample sizes so i try things that way :)
Sadly the Butiki order still hasn’t shipped. I’ll be sure to let you know when it does though! i’m getting so impatient for my teas. :) I’d love to do a matcha order, but not for a couple months at this point sadly.
She said on Facebook that it should ship Thursday! I hope the shipping is fairly quick!
And I’ll probably be headi.g to Toronto before we get a matcha order together. :/. Not that you can’t do it without me!
I’m in noooo rush to get on a Red Leaf order. Srsly ladies, I have four (?) flavours to get through yet.
Butiki will soon be ours! It’s going to be like Christmas in Australia for us.
Annnnd, another sipdown!
I probably shouldn’t have had three cups of matcha because I feel a bit outta it now. Too much, man, that was too much!
This was a lovely tea that I’ll miss. I added a bit more leaf and steeped it a bit longer and it tastes more like pastry than it did before. And it’s almost like baked goods cinnamon (instead of fake cinnamon). Very nice!
I’m also a bit wigged out atm because we have movers in our office and they seem like idiots. They’re complaining a lot, and looking around at everything. I was pouring hot water into my timolino from the fancy coffee machine and the one guy just stared at it, and flicked my mug with his finger as he appreciated the machine. NO TOUCHING! :O Bah. Time to go home soon anyway or I’ll get trapped on the stairs while they move stuff around.
Preparation
So I measured out a perfect matcha scoop of this, put it in a cup and swirled it around with a coffee stirrer. Then I added 4 oz of hot water, and 2 oz of warmish milk from our fancy coffee machine thingy at work. Now: Enjoyed!
I totally butchered it though, didn’t I? I feel like a Matcha Barbarian. This is so good though! I wonder how it’d be if I took better care of it! :P
I also had a scoop of this, mixed with 1oz of hot water, then I poured it into a water bottle with ice and shook it around and drank it that way too. Also tasty, but more like a milk shake.
I can’t wait to learn more about matcha! Thank you Sil for the sample. This is pretty great stuff.
Maybe someday I’ll invest in a matcha whisk so I don’t get sediment at the bottom of my cup.
How do you guys make matcha when you’re at work by the way?
Sipdown!
Ok, I’ll miss this but I don’t need to replace it as there are so many other blacks teas out there that I enjoy more. I have a soft spot for it because it was my first non-flavoured black that I bought a tin of. Now that tin will go to my 2oz of Laoshan Black. How things have changed…
I wish I hadn’t got the labels from DavidsTea on the tins when I bought them, but that was back in the day when I thought OMG I’d love this tea forevers! Maybe I can make my own labels to hide the old one. :)
Dropping the rating a little bit so I don’t get tricked into buying more.
Preparation
Haha how times change indeed. I luckily only have one DT tin, for Toasted Marshmallow, which I’ve gotten ridiculously tired of halfway through now. Can’t wait to finish it, and let’s hope those labels they slap on aren’t too sticky.
