357 Tasting Notes
Happy Fourth of July!
Wow, it’s been a busy few days. It was my Dad’s 70th birthday on the weekend so we had a couple of parties for him. I bought him a huge mango cake which everyone but me seemed to love. It was one of those cakes that are less sweet. I’m kind of an oddball, I like my tea without any kind of added sweeteners, but I like my cake to be so sweet that my teeth practically jump out of my face in horror.
My step-sister, her husband and her baby girl recently arrived from China (where they live and work). So I had the pleasure of meeting my niece for the first time. She has such cute chubby cheeks that it makes my voice go up about 2 octaves as soon as I see her (what’s that about?)
The memorial for my hubby’s grandfather was also a couple of days ago, and even though memorials are never easy, it was nice to see so many people who loved him and offered their support to the family.
But through all the events I missed checking in with my Steepster friends… So on to the tea! I’m still enjoying this, not as an everyday tea, but it’s a nice occasional treat. The roasty marshmallow taste is even delicious in my travel mug, that smothers the lovely scent. Looking at the ratings I can see that this tea isn’t a hit with everyone, but thankfully it works for my taste buds.
Happy Canada Day!
I made this using extra dry mix and it was pretty good that way. But it’s still a like, rather than a love for me. I have 2 mates in my tea cupboard and I feel the same way about both of them. It tastes a little like a weak coffee when I make it this way, which is alright, but I’d prefer a good black, green, or white leaf tea over this. As it cools I tend to like it a little less. Meh…I’m not sure if it’s fair to write off all mates quite yet, but I think I’ll try to stick to sample sized mates in the future.
Finishing this one today from my fruit try me pack. I used a touch more of the tea leaves, and I think I prefer it this way. The smell of the peach from this reminds me a little of the Quaker Oats peaches and cream flavored instant oatmeal. This tea is actually much better than I remember, so if anyone else was disappointed with this one, I would recommend adding some extra leaf in your next go around. Having said that, it’s not so much better that I’d repurchase it – glad I had the chance to experiment though. Gotta love those try me packs!
Finishing this one off from my Touch of herb try me pack. This is not my favorite tisane, but with so many ingredients that I don’t like (chamomile, cardamom, and St. John’s Wort) I’m astonished that I didn’t just try to pass this off on my brother. I wouldn’t buy it again, but it was worth a try.
Breyer’s used to make a novelty Simpsons ice cream called “Cookie D’oh!” that I used to love. But now I can’t say Cookie dough like a normal person :P
I dumped a little extra leaf in this today just as an experiment and oh yummers! This is a delicious hot tea, and the smell truly reminds me of cookie dough. As it cools there’s a slight sour taste that seems to emerge, that I wish wasn’t there, but it’s just so darn good hot.
I totally just caved and bought more of this from their online special along with a few others. I filled and dumped my shopping basket so many times yesterday, and finally decided to sleep on it. When I got up in the middle of the night to use the washroom (probably because I drank so much of this tea yesterday) I decided to go ahead with the order. The online specials really do seem too good to pass up if you like any of the teas that are being offered. If you want to check it out for yourself, here’s the link http://www.davidstea.com/web-specials Cookie Dough is 72% off!
I did exactly the same thing!! haha Those web specials are way too affordable to pass up. I haven’t tried cookie dough yet, but have heard only good things so I can’t wait! :)
Oh, I hope their stock lasts for the next 8 hours! I’m definitely buying the special on Cookie Dough, but I was holding off until tonight so I can try the Tropicalia I have cold steeping in the fridge. If I like it enough, I’ll add that to my order too. :D
I tried using a little more leaf this time and I think that helped to improve the taste compared to the last time I tried this tea, but I still don’t love it. I do get hits of apple every once in a while, but I’m still getting a strange taste that I’m not really sure how to describe…maybe plasticy or chemically? I preferred this hot; when it cooled, the strange taste seemed to come out even more. I have enough leaf remaining to experiment with one or two more times, but I’m not sure what to try next. This one may just not be for me. I think I’ll stick to Della Terra’s Classic Apple Pie, that one is sooo yummy!
I’m finishing this one off today. I used more leaf than I did last time, and that seems to have helped to improve with the flavors having more of a presence. The scent still reminds me of strawberries that are past their prime, but the taste as a hot tea is a bit better than the last time I made this. Unfortunately, as it cools, the overripe taste becomes increasingly prominent.
Meh…it doesn’t impress me enough to merit a repurchase.
Tastes like a peppermint patty, or should I say peppermint pat-tea? I never used to love the chocolate mint combo when I was a kid, but it has recently really grown on me. I’m drinking my leftovers of this from my morning steep while watching a rerun of Fresh Prince of BelAir…ahh… good combo! My taste in flavors may have changed, but I still like my old-school teen sit-coms. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to.
This tea steeps too weakly for my taste, even with two teabags in a cup. I honestly think that I’ll need to use three or four to get a decent cup. I only paid $2 for a box of 16 individually packaged teabags so for the price it’s not bad. At least the packaging makes it convenient. But personally, I’d prefer to pay a bit more for loose leaves that give a stronger steep than this one. It’s always nice to try something new though.
I agree…if I am gonna eat sweets the more sugar, butter and fat the better. YUM.
@scribbles – cheers to that :D
