493 Tasting Notes
i picked this tea at NYC Coffee and Tea Festival. I still have nice memories abt festival and meeting Joseph Wesley. he recognized my accent asking if i’m from Russia and also shared that he spent several months there.
i had this tea several times but didnt recorded for some unknown reason. Today i prepared it western style 1tsp 200F 8oz 2 min
This tea is rich,malty,chocolaty sweet with some nut notes. as it cooled all the flavors became more pronounced and meld into each other. i decided to increase the temp to 205F for resteep for 3min. Wow, 2nd steep is bolder, richer and flavorful. now I’m wondering if it would be a good idea to rinse it to open up leaves. I’m sure i can get one or two resteeps more.
I’m happy that i picked this tea and planning to restock once I run out of it.

Wet leaves smell of prunes and apricots. this tea is very clean, burgundy clear, no off taste . It is sweet with some spice notes,maybe like cinnamon. had a tingling sensation. Also this tea is very creamy. call me crazy but i can compare all those notes to plum pudding.

Its so nasty outside, drizzly and windy. I needed some hot tea. Since my last review I fell in love with Lapsang Souchong, so smoke is not an issue anymore. In fact I like it, its very well done in Caravan. Enjoyed with croissant and cheddar. Yum!

The only Lapsang Souchong I’ve had is Zen Tea’s, and while I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it… I’m wondering if the smoky thing can really grow on you. Maybe I should give it more of a chance.
And, the croissant and cheddar sounds lovely!

this tea is rich bold satisfying, in other words everything I like in ripe Puerh.
Wet leaves smelled strongly of prunes.
1st steep produced clear burgundy color sweet tea. with the notes of leather, dried cherry and some wood. i also experienced some numbing of the tip of my tongue.
Later steeps were much darker but still clear. some other notes came along such as dried persimmon and faint tobacco. after several steeps I became sleepy – maybe tea drunk? I really enjoyed this tea, it was quite an experience.
Flavors: Leather, Stewed Fruits, Tobacco, Wood

I love good quality EG and this tea is the best of both worlds: my beloved yunnan black base and bergamot. It’s strong flavored but nothing artificial about this tea. Deep dark smooth and balanced. 205F 3.5 min produced excellent cup of afternoon tea. Resteep is good too. While bergamot loses its punch but still present. And Yunnans are famous for multiple resteeps.
It is comparable to American Tea Room EG Shanghai.
