493 Tasting Notes
Spring 2014
I’m so impressed with this tea. Unfortunately due to my inexperience with Dancong
I probably won’t be able to do the proper review.
I’ll try to do what I can. It’s incredible. It’s like fruit cocktail (. I’m not even able to pinpoint every one). Lychee, mango, pineapple, maybe cherry. Some raw nuts. Around 4th steep some bitterness creeped. But nothing offensive. And loooong sweet aftertaste lingering in my mouth.
Gongfu 6g 100ml 195F
Many 5/10/15 secs
Highly recommended, thanks apt!
Preparation
I was smitten today. This tea is like nothing I tried in my life.
4g 100ml 195F
Rinse/10/15/15/20/30 etc
Leaves are long. Maybe like an inch on average and some longer
Smells intoxicating. I’m very new to this type of tea so it’s hard to describe all the notes. Overall it’s like drinking semi sweet champaign .
So glad I ordered from JTS. Thank you apt for recommending
Preparation
try it with 6-7g for 100ml, Dancongs are better with a bit more leaf. Glad you liked it, tell me how the AAA compares!
This sample came to me from caile – thank you so much
The leaves are very thin, slightly curly. i wanted to “pet” them, haha
Western method Teavivre’s parameters
2tsp 8oz 195F 4 min (Teavivre recommends 3-5)
dark, wine notes along with some bread cake, no smoke.
decided to add1tsp of maple syrup to see if it would make it bread cake. and it did. like raisin bread cake. so good. delicious.
Resteep @6min was a little weak. I wouldnt bother. I have enough to try gongfu.
Thank you for sending me sample , i truly enjoyed it. Will pick up on BF sale(OMG i already planning BF sales)
Preparation
FWIW: Superfine Keemun Mao Feng is a new non-organic TeaVivre Keemun for 2014, not to be confused with the more familiar similar sounding Organic Superfine Keemun Fragrant black tea.

i really want to gongfu it, cause resteep was rather meh
Is it normal for Keemun not to have a good resteep? im so spoiled with Yunnan
Many don’t resteep well. However, Premium Keemun Hao Ya will reliably and consistently provide 2 resteeps (3 cups total)Western brewing. These results are based on having enjoyed 1.7 kg to date.
looseTman, you are Keemun expert, i know;)
i like when tea resteeps well at least once. this s why i probably like gongfu method a lot. some teas are just endless
Premium Keemun Hao Ya provides 6 Gongfu steeps: 15s,25s,40s,70s,100s,130s – http://www.teavivre.com/keemun-hao-ya/
i cant say i tried a lot, but now im thinking i really like China Keemun by Nina’s Paris
http://steepster.com/teas/ninas-paris/34952-china-keemun
very rich flavor and I’m not afraid of smoke
I got my order today. I was so excited because I got 3 tea packages after “starvation” mode.
This tea. It’s very complex, changing from one steep to another.
Gongfu method
4g 100 ml gaiwan 205F
10/15/20/20/30 etc
The leaves are midnight black, very thin and very long like Daddy long legs. Scale to the rescue.
First steep was pale yellow, longan or grapes, juicy and some raw nuts, maybe cashew?
Second steep was totally different. Smelled like brownie, tasted like brownie with some faint cherry note
Later steeps were more citrusy, like grapefruit, longan came back with more cherry note pronounced. Some steeps were kinda floral in Darjeeling way.
This tea was quite an experience. Rich, multifaceted , satisfying
Thank you apt for suggesting me Jing Tea Shop. I’m very excited to try new teas.
Preparation
I enjoyed this sample for 2 days.
I love it. First of all id like to report that i brew sheng with boiling water. yes. its much better because it doesnt taste like mellow smooth green tea anymore. i dont want mellow green tea, i want something special, some punch. it wasnt bitter either because thats the tea or maybe my taste buds changed. either way im happy sheng drinker.
First several steeps were amazing. what would you say to potato chips flavor but without grease? sweet, slightly bitter, delicious. some slight tobacco. those flavors of chips and tobacco were very interesting and made me hungry. Burger would be the best but i had only chicken in my fridge. anyway its too late for after midnight snack. Time to go to bed before i get some other food cravings.
Preparation
enjoying my night cup of tea
usual gongfu method
leather, cedar, prunes. very rich, dark, calming
So happy I restock this tea on Mandala’s recent legendary sale.
Preparation
re the leather word, I went to look at my tasting note for this tea – see what I said about it, and I’ve never written one. I don’t think I’ve had this one? Is that possible? (it’s not in my cupboard, and I’ve never logged it…weird) Really happy that you both love it. :))
I"m actually really confused. I don’t actually have any right now, but I don’t think it’s possible that I’ve never tried this. I went looking for a tasting note and couldn’t find any indication that this has ever been in my cupboard. Weird. Fairy it’s fine, you really don’t have to. I’m just really confused….
Lovely Stephanie sent me a sample. I tried it 3 ways
First – plain. Robust and smooth, some florals and malt. Perfect breakfast tea , not on empty stomach. Egg and cheese on a crossaint.
Second- with condensed milk. While it was yummy I probably overdid it. Because when it cooled became too sweet for my taste. I’m partial to condensed milk and can eat it right out the can. Gross, right?
Third – splash of milk and maple syrup. Dessert in a cup. Let me just say this tea was gorgeous chocolaty color. Not every tea takes milk well. Sometimes it looks murky and disgusting . Not this tea. Fabuloso with milk. Maple syrup just tiny bit rounded out florals and malt.
To conclude, no additions as a breakfast tea and milk + maple syrup as afternoon
I resteep it @5min. Was very satisfying cup, almost like original
Preparation
No such thing as overdoing it on condensed milk! And I think everyone could eat it out of the can with a spoon, they just don’t admit it. ;)
one of my favorites! glad to hear you liked it
I think I’m going to order more of it. I just want to finish tasting others
