53 Tasting Notes
Genmaicha was the tea that got Hubby into tea, so I’ll always have a huge soft spot for it. And it’s hard to go wrong with such a staple tea.
This is one of my favorites, though.
The matcha adds such a wonderful sweetness to what was already a roasty toasty cup of comfort, that it becomes something you can just fall happily into. I like the balance of this cup too, with the matcha just edging out the nuttiness of the rice as the dominant flavor.Preparation
I’ve definitely been on a bit of a EG swing lately, and found a sample of this one floating around.
It was kind of like returning to an old friend.
Taken with 2TBSP of Silk Unsweetened soy milk and 1TSP Sugar Free White Chocolate Torani
Like most DAVIDsTEA blends, this one smells better and stronger than it tastes. It smells almost like a strong earl grey vanilla pudding or cake.
While it does hold up in the desserty and vanilla-y flavor department, and doesn’t let me down in the rich, creamy mouthfeel, What I’m finding myself missing here is a pop of bergamot. Zen Tea’s is still my go-to.
Preparation
Disclosure: I’ve been putting off trying this for the better part of six months. Hibiscus and I have a strange, uncomfortable relationship that mostly involves me not liking it.
The blend is beautiful! The bright blue of the corn flowers is so striking and really pops. There are big dried blueberries and it smells of autumnal spices with cinnamon leading the way.
It’s definitely very very much hibiscus, though. It lacks the metallic quality that it can sometimes carry, but is still sharp/tart and a bit bitter. There’s an undercurrent of sweet cinnamon flavor, but it’s just not enough to redeem this for me.
I quite like this one. I’m not big on genmaicha with matcha (I prefer mine normal), but this one just does something for me.
I think the matcha is somewhat sweeter in this one than in Lupicia, H&S or American Tea Room (the only other few I can remember trying). It just feels less aggressive and more zen (or at least more like normal genmaicha feels to me).
