90 Tasting Notes
I got this as a sample with my order and it’s like nothing I have tasted before. At first I’m getting a verrry subtle hint of something that I can’t quite pinpoint…saffron? Cardamom? I’m intrigued.
And then…the pastry flavor emerges. It’s like a buttery honey-glazed raisin bun. The flavors are layered in such a way that every mouthful feels like a sip of tea followed by a bite of pastry. I feel like I’m at an afternoon tea; the only thing missing is a pretty china cup (this deserves so much more than my clunky work mug!). This is a treat-yourself kind of tea, and I’m not ready to let it go after just one encounter. It’s definitely going onto the must-buy list.
Preparation
I had no fruit with my lunch today so I figured I could have this tea instead and call it even. Ah, if only it worked like that!
So far I’ve found that Butiki’s teas taste so natural; there’s no trace of anything artificial or chemical tasting whatsoever. This was no exception, as the cantaloupe tasted so fresh and authentic. The creaminess comes through in the mouthfeel and adds richness to the smooth white tea base. This was so refreshing and delicious. It’s definitely going to be a spring/summer staple.
Whenever I’m getting sick I make ginger tea with lots of lemon, and force myself to drink it while making sour faces. So I was a little worried that this would be tart and remind me of my makeshift home remedy attempts.
But pleasantly it was slightly sweet and creamy and tasted like a lemon cupcake. Yum! I can actually see myself ordering this one. Thanks yappychappy for the sample.
Preparation
Got this in my sampler pack, and I wasn’t expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. The mild tartness of the strawberry comes through first, followed by a warm chocolate note.
I’ve gotten so used to seeing and smelling the chocolate in a tea only to have it mysteriously disappear when it comes to tasting it. But I could actually taste the chocolate in this one! Yay! I enjoyed it, but I can only see myself craving that tart strawberry flavor once in a while.
Preparation
It’s Friday afternoon tea time at my desk. Time for cookies! Well, not really. I’m eating whole wheat crackers and drinking this tea in order to trick myself into thinking I’m having cookies, because I don’t actually have any. Is it working? Well, sort of.
This definitely smells like chocolate chip cookie dough. But I’m not really getting that in the sip; instead I’m getting a nutty vanilla flavor. Hmm. The description says sugar cookies, though the ingredients list cocoa peel and chocolate chips. As it cools, a tiny hint of chocolate emerges. So overall it’s maybe an almond sugar cookie dusted with chocolate. It was tasty, but no match for the real thing (you had big shoes to fill, Cookie Dough. It was a solid effort).
I have mostly turned to straight blacks when I’m stumbling around half asleep and need something bold to wake me up. This was one of those mornings. So I chose this one, as the name sounded like it meant business and would give me the wake-up smack I needed.
But I was pleasantly surprised with a gentle (but effective) nudge instead. It was exceptionally smooth, and full-bodied yet light at the same time. There’s a slight raisin-y natural sweetness to it, which increases as it cools. I didn’t feel the need to add anything as it was tasty on its own, and it resteeped well. I think that seasoned black tea drinkers and newbies like me could both agree that this is one fine tea!
Preparation
I haven’t had a cinnamon roll in ages because I overdid it during the numerous trips I made to Ikea when I was moving (yeah I know, no one forced me to get one every time). So I figured I’d try one in guilt-free tea format. I must admit that I was a little skeptical that it would end up being just another cinnamon tea (though this was my first tea from 52teas, so I didn’t know what I was in for!)
This actually tastes like a cinnamon roll! The cinnamon is not overpowering at all, and is equally balanced with the bready taste of the roll. I barely noticed the honeybush, except for the last couple of sips when it started to taste a little sour. But the rest of it was buttery cinnamon pastry goodness. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a real cinnamon roll again! (instead I’ll save my calories for cake and chocolate ;) )
Preparation
I got my first order from Butiki! I gotta say I was pretty impressed before I even tried it. The customer service was amazing, the shipping was fast, and the elegant packaging just confirms the fact that there’s quality stuff in there.
As soon as I smelled this, I knew I was in for something special. And wow. The maple pecan flavor is dead-on, but the slightly woodsy oolong also comes through and balances the sweetness, so you don’t feel like you’re drinking warm syrup. And it tastes so natural, like the maple flavor was somehow magically infused right into the leaves. This is one of those teas that I had to remind myself to slow down and savor, rather than gulping down like a dehydrated runner, because it’s just that good.
Preparation
Sprung for the tin this time! Now we never have to be apart again…
Preparation
and they lived happily every after! yay. (i fantasize about a tin of this too. but i need to earn it cuz yo i have way too much tea already)
I was supposed to earn it too. I tried buying a little bit at a time, and then I would run out in record time and be sad. It got to a point where I had to break the cycle! At least that’s how I’m justifying it ;)
recently i’m realizing really clearly how my tastes are growing and changing. which is great because tea keeps becoming valuable and exciting to me in new ways. but the problem is that now i tend to have too much of the wrong kind of tea and not enough of the right kind. my sister, who got me into tea in the first place, is moving in within the month. after seeing how tea moves between us, i may have to do a spring cleaning of sorts just so i can make room for more deliciousness like this oolong.
Shmiracles – same here; i’ve only been into tea for a short time and already my tastes have shifted quite a bit. i’m considering a spring cleaning too. it will be fun to have a tea buddy once your sister moves in. i envy you…i live with a coffee fanatic lol
whatshesaid – it definitely is, especially with the pricier ones!
It was a stressful Monday, so when my coworker offered to pick up lunch from a fast food chain that shall remain unnamed, I accepted (and guiltily slid my homemade soup back into the fridge). Not a wise decision. Rescue me white tea!
This is like the soft-spoken cousin of the jasmine dragon pearls green tea. I found the jasmine flavor a lot milder in this tea, and extremely well balanced with the white tea. You can taste the jasmine first, followed by the sweetness and delicate hay-like flavor of the silver needles. As much as I enjoyed the dragon pearls, I think I prefer the softer jasmine flavor of this one. Thanks Teavivre, from me and my tummy.
So glad you are enjoying it! We only have 1 half ounce pouch left of this. Let me know if you want me to save it for you. After that, we won’t have any in stock until July/August when it is harvested.
That would be great! I’ll PM you.
