772 Tasting Notes
It seems I prefer goji berry blends to be with black tea rather than green. I oversteeped this a bit since I forgot I was steeping it at all. It made the green slightly bitter and ruined the taste of the goji berry, so I shan’t be rating this tea. Disappointing since this is the only sachet I have of this blend.
Third tea to come in my Sips By April box. This one isn’t in the steepster database yet and I apologize for the lack of picture, I couldn’t figure out how to put one in.
This is apparently an unsmoked lapsang souchong tea, according to the little card I got. It’s an interesting black tea, the dry scent is very minerally and the wet scent and taste is minerally and malty. The tea itself brews up a very light colour and the taste is pretty light as well if you go by their steeping directions of 2 minutes in 195F water, which I did. It steeps at least twice as well, maybe 3 times but I haven’t tried a third steep yet.
A pretty good black tea but not one I’d go out of my way to purchase, I don’t think.
Flavors: Malt, Mineral
Preparation
Second tea from my April Sips By box, 4 sachets of this tea.
It’s…not terrible. It’s not great. It’s a green tea with mint. The mint isn’t overwhelming the green tea but that’s about the only thing I have to say about it. It’s also giving me a headache, as green teas sometimes do so I’ll be distributing the rest to others. Overall, I’d rate the taste as ‘okay’.
Preparation
Had this again this morning. I think I’m adjusting to the fact that I can’t identify that one flavour. It’s still tasty and very ‘tropical’ so it’s well named. I was a bit distracted while drinking it though, so I didn’t give it my full attention. Perhaps it’s less annoying that way?
I used more matcha this time in my sweetened matcha latte, but it’s still less grapey than I expected. The grape is present but only slightly in the sip and more in the aftertaste. It’s not bad though, but grape flavour (and this is definitely grape candy rather than grape grape) isn’t really my favourite thing. Not sure why I bought this really, except at the time I really wanted to try every single matcha flavour made by Red Leaf Tea/Matcha Outlet.
Still, I’ll up the rating a bit since I’m getting more of a handle on this one. It doesn’t really deserve a rating in the 60s from me, but not too much since I don’t actually like it terribly much. Still, I’ll drink this down without much problem, I think, and then get to move on to a new flavour! Getting a bit tired of the same 4 matcha flavours at work.
Preparation
Well, I tend to add milk to my black teas to tame the bitterness I get a bit (I’m ultra sensitive to bitterness) but I forgot that the cafeteria doesn’t open until 6am so I’ve been sitting with this tea in the steeper, dry, for half an hour and honestly it’s scenting my entire desk this amazing blackberry smell. I can’t smell the sage so much and the white leaves look very weird to me but I have high hopes for this tea. Blackberry sage is one of my favourite flavour combinations of all time.
The sage is much more present in the steeped tea smell, less sweet and more savory. It is definitely much more present in the steeped liquid, which isn’t very sweet at all and I can’t detect much blackberry in the first sips, despite 2 blackberries being in my steeper. It’s a nice tea but maybe I’ll put a bit more sweetener in it next time to try to bring out the blackberry more. I am enjoying it though, and hopefully it will wake me up this morning because I’ve been struggling.
