985 Tasting Notes
Tea from last evening. Onto the shopping list this one goes! So happy that it is permanent. And many thanks to Jenn for the sample. :D
The brew is sweet, and the first flavor to stand out is the pinapple. I also catch the coconut, and something kind of rumish. Truly a satisfying dessert like experience. YUM!
24 oz teapot, 4 tsp honeybush blend, freshly boiled water, 7 minutes. Lightly Sweetened.
Preparation
Another sample of Thank You tea from DaisyChubb.
I think this one tastes more like a berry tea than an Earl Grey, but the bergamot is in there. Usually, if I am craving Earl Grey, I don’t want to have to search for it. While this is good, it is not likely one that I will purchase. Thank you so much for the sample! I think I will be filling the cart with Chocolate Rocket, Buttered Rum (yes, I am now stocking this one for the Zombie Apocolypse), and Pumpkin Chai. Yayyyy! It will be my first order at David’s!
Preparation
Nice! Yes, Buttered Rum is needed for the zombie apocolypse. It’ll help you made friends too, which might be important, depending on the security level of your home or bunker.
A very nice first order, mmyes. approved. n_n;
You need more buttered rum already? : ) Summy has killed my tea consumption, I’m going to have to spend all winter drinking up my collection. Shucks! : )
Thank you QuiltGuppy for this trial! It is lighly cinnamon and almond with a rich tea base. It reminds me of Almond Cookie from Butiki and My Boss Sucks from Praise Tea. I am not sure I would be able to tell the difference even in a side by side.
24 oz teapot, 4 actual tsp tea, freshly boiled water, 4 minutes. Lightly sweetened.
Preparation
I decided it was time to prepare this one made in a more traditional fashion. I used 1 cup skim milk, 1 cup water and 5 perfect teaspoons of Thai Chai (this was way too much….will try more like three next time.) Brought to a boil and simmered for about 4 or 5 minutes. Then strained and added sweetner (yes, I almost always use Splenda…mostly because I find Stevia a little bitter, and Equal gives me headaches…and real sugars are not ideal for me). It was incredibly good, and well worth the time it took to make it. I think I would even choose it over a small hot fudge sundae. Just what I needed…another pursuit in the realm of tea…..CHAI!
Does anyone know of some really good loose chais? I have bagged Indian Spice from Harney, but I am thinking loose would be better. I could probably live happily with more of this one…..
Preparation
Its not helpful unless you miraculously score some but my favorite chai tp date is 52teas gingerbread chai. I went on a big chai kick at the start of the year and fell in love with that one.
Actually, that does help. I will try to score some of Frank’s next chai blend. I am a little apprehensive about Extra Bold Masala Chai, just because I tend to like more subtlety in spiciness.
Yesterday was the best tea-mail day ever. I received several samples of Thank You tea from DaisyChubb (mostly David’s…yum!), a more than generous parcel of Thank You tea from our own resident Ambassador of Tea Good Will QuiltGuppy, and my order of Cinnamon Roll Honeybush. I am awed by the generosity and friendship (as well as awesome tea!) of this community. Really, it is all of us who make it such a worthwhile place. (Jason has a hand in it, too, of course!) Thank you! This is the kind of community that restores your faith in humanity.
On to the tea. This is hands down the best mate blend I have ever tasted. It is smooth, it starts with chocolate, and the raspberry note comes in at the end, but you almost have to squint your eyes to catch it. It is a seemless transition, and oh, so good. Man, I am seeing an order to David’s in the near future. Thanks to DaisyChubb for this particular sample, and thank you to my other Canadian tea swappers for enabling me to try before dropping $50 on a few guesses.
Jumbo Mug (16 oz), 2 tsp mate blend, freshly boiled water, 4 1/2 minutes. Lightly sweetened.
Preparation
I hear you loud and clear! I got a box from Jenn yesterday that made me quiver! I have already invited a friend over to have tea with me today to try out some of the new goodies! :)
I must be ready for Fall. This tea sounded so good today. Thank you to Jenn for the opportunity to try this one!
I definitely get the spice, the pumpkin is light and creamy. The tea base is satisfying. All in all, a great tea for Fall. The aroma is wonderful, and it tastes good, too!
24 oz teapot, 4 tsp tea, freshly boiled water, 4 minutes. Lightly sweetened.
Preparation
Tea of the early morning…..
This one is so unique in my cupboard. The more I drink it, the more I like it. It is lightly smokey and sweet, and just gives off an air of coziness.
Happy Friday!
Preparation
I think this is Doulton’s favorite lapsang, isn’t it? Have you tried Baker Street Afternoon Blend by Upton?
I have not tried Baker’s Street Afternoon. This is the first Lapsang blend I really liked and have not ventured further, yet!
Ummm, Wow. I think I have a new tea amongst the favorites. This one is kind of reminiscent of Premium Steap’s Emperor’s Red and Angelina’s Imperial Red (Da Hong Pao Black) except less roasty and more cocoa. This one almost tastes like it is flavored (which kind of seems like an insult to this tea, but how else to describe it?), the chocolate notes are that present. One might even call them overtones on this one. I have not gotten to a resteep, but that will be the true test. Fortunately, this one is lower in price than the teas mentioned above which helps, even if a resteep is not as good. I am also not beyond adding a little more tea if necessary for the resteep on this one if it needs it.
tl;dr LOOOOOOOve it! :D
24 oz teapot, 4 tsp tea, freshly boiled water, 4 minutes. Lightly sweetened.
Preparation
When I first tried this one, my immediate thought was “Dawn” from The Simple Leaf. It’s really an awesome tea.
With all due respect, you mention that the tea is flavored which is “an insult to the tea” but then you “lightly sweeten” it after…
@sygyzy- Yes, kind of a contradiction. I will own that. I just usually prefer my hot tea lightly sweetend to bring out some of the notes in them (confessed chocoholic here). And it is even stranger because I never sweeten iced tea.
Your cup of tea is your cup of tea and you should do with it whatever you like. We all have our preferences :)
My tea of the evening…. Basic vanilla rooibos decorated with almond slices and yellow petals. This one is pretty good as far as rooibos goes. I am not a big fan of rooibos, but I do think it lends itself well to vanilla flavors. Oddly, this tea really gives me a full feeling. I also need some sleep tonight, so I am skipping black tea this evening.
This one is actually from The English Tea Store online. I know I have it listed as Metro, but Metro teas are everywhere, and with a free shipping deal, English Tea Store has some of the best prices online for 4 ounces. It is where I stock up on this tea as well as Earl Grey Cream.
24 oz teapot, 6 actual tsp rooibos blend, freshly boiled water, 7 minutes. Lightly sweetened.
Preparation
Tea of the early morning….
The tea base on this one is very smooth and relaxing. The bergamot is present, and I do get a hint of lavender. This is my first Earl Grey with lavender and I like it. There is definitely a lavendar punch, but it works in its subtlety. I will definitely enjoy this tea, but we will see if it makes the repurchase list.
The packaging from this company is unique, and the product out of the box is beautifully wrapped in tissue. The tins are an oval shaped cylinder. I am not sure how I feel about the lids, but I do think they could fit better. Really, it is a lovely presentation.
24 oz teapot, 5 actual tsp tea, freshly boiled water, 4 minutes. Lightly sweetened.
