2291 Tasting Notes

Mine says “with selected herbs” which sounds kinda sketchy but whatever.

It smells like hot apple cider. Really, it smells SO good I almost don’t want to drink it.

This doesn’t taste how it smells. It’s not bad, but it’s mostly just a cinnamon-and-clove tea with some other stuff. It’d probably be better with honey, but I’d rather head back to bed than go into the kitchen.

Thanks for sharing, MissB, but this isn’t one I’m in love with. :)

My last cup of this blend! And I’m not allowed to restock for a while. Hiatus. Teatus. Something like that.

This is soooooo good as always. Yum yum yum. Burnt sugar, nougat, cream. Perfect dessert for breakfast kind of tea.

I just weighed and counted all my teas (except for the BIN of samples – I assume all those are about 10g) and I have 4.98 kg in 209 teas. PHEW. (Plus some incoming that I’ve purchased, plus the MissB box for the few of us on this coast, etc.)

So because this is hard work (hee!) I decided to have some tea. This one is always good. Today, I added some milk and a touch of sugar. Nice and root beer-y. Yep. I really like Stacy’s honeybush, it doesn’t go sour on me at all.

Nice!!! I love that you did all that. I wish I had a scale!

OMGsrsly

They’re pretty cheap at London Drugs! Or whatever you have out there. Wait for 20% off sales though. :)

Lindsay

I bought mine on Amazon and I’ve been very happy with it. :)

Smells… like how bad black currant teas can smell.

Lychee? What?

Taste isn’t bad. Strong green tea, even though I understeeped from the instructions. Strong flavours. Not really lychee, though there is a crisp and cool-sweet flavour component.

It’s really not to my taste. I kept this one because the tin was weighing down the box, and I though I’d share it with my friend. Only we haven’t hung out in ages because she doesn’t contact me very often, too preoccupied with her boyfriend.

Ahh well. What isn’t meant to be, isn’t meant to be. I will enjoy this cup, yet also enjoy that I don’t have any more to drink. :D

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 2 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
Tabby

Ugh, I know exactly what you mean about the bad currant. It makes me scared to try them.

OMGsrsly

Some have been really good! I like the ones that Steam Tea House and also Janet’s Special Tea carry. They remind me of the black currant licorice candies my mom gets every Christmas. :)

Uhh.

Uhhhhh…

Dirt tea.

(Actually dirt plus dark chocolate plus some more dirt and maybe a few cedar shavings thrown into the smoothie just for kicks.)

Anyone interested in trying? I’m sending some off to Dexter, but there’s a good 1/3 cup remaining in my 50g.

Even gongfu this is not for me.

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 tsp 4 OZ / 120 ML
Lindsay

I’d love some! (your dirt teas tend to be ones I like because of the cocoa notes)

OMGsrsly

Ha! Ok, PM me your address. :D I think I have a smallish envelope so I can send it tomorrow.

OMGsrsly

Umm, also… I have a bajillion teas not on steepster. I will send a list so you can pick a few more. Just because.

DeliriumsFrogs

Hahahaha! Your dirt tea notes are my favourite.

OMGsrsly

The cocoa/cacao flavours in tea are just not my thang. :D And there are potentially going to be a lot of dirt tea notes as Dexter sent over… 24 samples, and some of them are bound to be cocoa-y. :)

This one SERIOUSLY is like powdered citric acid. Even steeped, it smells SOOOOO powdery.

I steeped 4 bags in 1 litre of water, accidentally for 24 hours. 10-12 would have been better. I dumped out 1 cup, added 1/2 tsp sugar, refilled with plain water, and now it’s drinkable! Haha. Wow, that was INTENSE.

I do like this tea, I like the idea, I like the intense lime, I even like the powdery impression. But you do have to be careful how you steep it.

(Just one cold brew of this one left!)

Indigobloom

I guess the powder is supposed to be “sand”???

OMGsrsly

It’s just dried lime peel, but there’s so much vitamin C (aka citric acid) in it, that’s what it smells like!

Indigobloom

hah. Crazy!!

OMGsrsly

When sick, it’s good with lots of honey. :)

Indigobloom

Hmmm. I may have to pick me up some one day

drank Royal BC Museum Tea by Silk Road
2291 tasting notes

This definitely tastes like a Silk Road tea, which isn’t all bad. I really like the berry flavours in this, but feel that perhaps the quantity of rosehips is a little much.

I’m drinking this with milk. I can totally taste the thimbleberries (YES! My favourite!) which is super cool.

I’m glad I just got a sample of this one. A larger amount would have been overkill.

(I’m totally not steeping this the way they recommend. IDK, somehow I think the flavours are more rounded at a lower temp with more tea.)

Preparation
185 °F / 85 °C 3 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML
Fjellrev

I’ve never had thimbleberries before! They look scrumptious. Are they similar to raspberries?

I’ve been meaning to pick this one up since I recall the dry leaf smelling fantastic.

OMGsrsly

Similar but also very different. :) They’re very dry berries.

Fjellrev

Mmm, I should keep an eye out for them at organic/farmers markets and such.

OMGsrsly

I’ve never actually seen them for sale. I always pick them and immediately eat them. :D

drank Nutmeg Cream by Butiki Teas
2291 tasting notes

This tea isn’t a sipdown today, but I did have an, umm, “accident” with a 2+ year old tea. Goodbye Murchie’s Russian Caravan. You weren’t bad, but you were too much without maple whipped cream. I haven’t had you for about a year now, so it was time.

Anyways, I have this tea and I have another iteration of nutmeg tea somewhere in my tea mess. I like it. A lot. Very very nutmeggy today. It’s making me wish for eggnog.

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 3 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML
Dexter

LOL I didn’t “accident” mine, but two might have gotten dropped on a co-workers desk this morning…

OMGsrsly

The teas I’m going to “accident” are really old, and I don’t really want anyone to drink them thinking they’re representative of anything except old teas I don’t love. :D But… if I could bring stuff to work, you bet I would.

Dexter

I hear you – I purged a few last months – they were just old and nasty – wouldn’t pass them on to anyone. The two today were just not to my liking….

OMGsrsly

I have a couple I’m going to send to people, because they’re fairly new yet I think they’ll like them better… :D

Fjellrev

I’m tempted to have an “accident” with a couple of my 3+ year old teas haha.

OMGsrsly

Do it! :D

Fjellrev

Hahaha. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I had one bag hot in 16 oz water as my evening drink last night, and also put 2 bags in 16 oz water to cold brew overnight.

Such a tasty juice tea. Seriously, although it smells a bit powdery and like citric acid, this is a delicious easy lemony tea.

(My sipdown for today yay!)

Well, this matches the picture! So I’m gonna go with it. The label Dexter wrote has “High Grade Yunnan Dian Hong 2014” on it. :)

I’m doing this in my cute travel tea set… 1/2 the baggie (about 2 tbsp loose leaves, whoa) and 120-ish ml water. I did a super fast rinse, and I’ve been steeping until it looks and smells tasty. :D It’s a fairly light tea, but strong on the sweet potato and malt flavours. Wow. Very strong. Even with my short steeps, that’s pretty much all I’m getting.

Interestingly, people have noted meat and smoke tastes. I don’t feel quite that way about it (as in, it’s not a dominant flavour for me), but I can see taste where they’re coming from. With longer steeps, there’s an astringency on the teeth, and almost a bitter polish sausage shop flavour of smoked meat on the back of the tongue. You know. The shops that have their own smoke house and smoke their own stuff? Those shops.

Anyways, this is really interesting. I don’t think I love it, but I really appreciate being able to try it. Thank you, Dexter!

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 4 OZ / 120 ML
Dexter

This was my least favorite of the Ecological teas I got. I wrote that it was too assertive and you think it’s really strong – so yeah – we agree. Hope you like the other ones better…

OMGsrsly

Packs a caffeine punch too! I wasn’t quite expecting that. Tea is usually more gentle than coffee.
