2291 Tasting Notes
This one is definitely better with milk. Sadness. I’ll probably try to finish the travel mug of this today for hydration, but the rooibos is really coming out and it does need to be softened with some cream IMO.
Preparation
Ooo, I still really like this one. It’s less mega-floral in my travel mug, but it’s still delightful and complex.
I think I might like it more with milk in it, but I’m trying to not have milks in my travel mugs due to accidentally making butter. Or cheese. Something chunky anyways.
Preparation
Once, at an old job, it was my job to arrange catering for all of the meetings in the department – usually, this meant I spent most of my days in the kitchen, cleaning cafetieres and arranging biscuits nicely on serving plates. It was awful. Sometimes, a meeting would run longer than I was paid to be there, so I’d have to pop in first thing in the morning and clear the teacups and stuff from the rooms. This was normally fine, except when a meeting would run late on a Friday and I’d have to leave the bits over the weekend. I came in to find a small metal jug of what looked rather like soft cheese in place of the milk a few times. Appetising.
(I really don’t miss that job.)
HA. So I have to be at work early tomorrow, and it’s 7pm and I’ve already been drinking.
WHEE.
First I had a Dark & Stormy, and now I’m brewing up some Ginger Beer to have with the rum. So far, the tea smells sweet and gingery. I very much smell the apples. I hope it makes a good hot toddy to go with my fresh baked gluten free bread. :D
And tasting the tea, no. It’s too thin to have with rum. But on its own it’s nice. It’s kinda like watered down apple juice with ginger in it. I do like it. I’m not sure I’d buy more, but I’ll happily finish what I have!
Preparation
Yeah, I think I’ll have to pick up some whiskey and make a hot toddy with O’Connor’s Cream from TeaG. :D
It’s still around! And it’s wayyyy less gingerly than double ginger. With a fresh sweetness from the Apple.
I woke up at 6 today since I went to bed super early last night and that dratted time change happened. I’ve been puttering around, getting things done in the apartment before I head out to the mall to run some errands. Sadly, the mall doesn’t open until 11. Yeah. It’s like half my day will be over by that point.
Anyways, I went through my teas again last night and (gasp) threw some out that were old and icky. Set some aside to send to my brother. Put a couple out to taste again before I get rid of them.
This is one I had totally forgot I had. And it’s so good. I made it and sipped on it while I set up a chicken and wild rice soup in my slow cooker. I think I have 1 or 2 cups left, and I should really go ahead and drink them. The other teas are straight blacks, so they’ll be fine for a while if I throw them into a tin to protect them a little more from the air.
I used this recipe, but with more of everything since my slow cooker is ginormous. http://pinchofyum.com/crockpot-chicken-wild-rice-soup I’ll also use tapioca or sweet rice flour to make the thickener. And I’ll get some almond or cashew milk today to make it creamy.
Preparation
Hahaha. I have to be at work by 7:30 tomorrow morning, which is going to be soooo painful. But there’s an online meeting and if I do the meeting at home I don’t get in until 10 or later.
Well, kinda yeah. But if I get a Real Job instead of a Make Your Own Hours Job, I’ll need to be at work around 8am every day anyways. So I’m going to try my best to do that every day!
That’s a good habit to get into now, for sure. I need to do that since I’d also need to be at work for 8am if I get this job. Did they let you know when they were going to get back to you?
That’s nice that they gave you a time frame. I hope you get it! But it’s kind of funny how long the hiring process takes, eh?
Ugh, good to know. I applied to this one in mid-September, along with some Alberta government positions, which I haven’t heard from (and assumed by now, would be a no go), but I guess you never know when you’re going to get a call.
I’ve applied for Federal stuff, and it takes FOREVER. I’d imagine Provincial gov’ts would be similar.
Yes, it’s Halloween. I’m dressed as a viking, drinking Christmas tea and cleaning my house. Anachronisms, yo. I might go out to Costco like this, as I need to pick up a couple things. We’ll see how I’m feeling in an hour or so. Right now I just want to crawl back into bed!
So yes, a Christmas tea. I was going through my cupboard choosing things to throw out (yes, throw out) and give away. This was one that pretty much only had a serving left so I decided to drink it. Again, it’s pretty nice. Not my most favourite spiced tea, but pretty nice.
Preparation
With eggnog.
Still amazing.
Yes!!!!! Yes it is! Although I haven’t seen eggnog since thanksgiving. So you might have to wait now.
This is some random “Caramel Toffee” tea from France that MissB shared with me. I don’t think it’s the Dammann Freres one, because there’s no papaya pieces in it and also it says it’s a Ceylon, while DF says a blend.
So.
Right after steeping, it smelled quite drying. So I added milk. As usual. So with milk, although it does feel a little funny on the teeth, it tastes quite nice. The flavour is much reduced due to the fold-over baggie style of packaging, but it’s still nice.
Thanks so much, MissB!
Preparation
This is the new one, as of Oct 2015.
I really like the steeping instructions on the bags (thank you!) but I think it’s interesting how they all recommend 1 tsp per 12 oz, instead of the more typical 1 tsp per 6-8 oz. I usually use 2 scant tsp per 12 oz, and 2 full tsp per 16 oz. Silk Road in Victoria takes everything even further and recommends 1 tsp per 16 oz. Which is honestly not enough. I mean, I suppose it’s more hydrating, but there’s not enough caffeine!
Anyways. This tea. I think I had it before, and it was just OK. The base tea was never my favourite, but I have to say that the new base is really quite nice. A little lighter than my go-to CTC or Assam, but quite nice.
Opening the bag, it smells sweet and cakey. Steeped, it smells… I’m not really sure. Definitely tea. Sweetness which must be the caramel. A little spice I think? I just ate a peanut butter cookie so my sense of taste is feeling really weird. Sorry.
Anyways, I’m glad I got this one. If it was a favourite, it’s definitely worth checking out again. If you were kinda meh about it the first time, the base is better. I’m not sure it’s my favourite flavour, but I’m glad I grabbed a sample pack. :)
(1.5-2 tsp in 12 oz for 3 min at 195F.)
Preparation
I’ll send it to you, Sil. :) It’s just a sampler, but it’ll give you an idea. I’m hoping to get through some sampling this week so I can send stuff out. You and Christina both need parcels! ;)
I want more of this one so badly!! I feel like a puppy whining for a treat, when there aren’t any left! (curse you Cdn $)
