1324 Tasting Notes
Palais Des Thes Advent Calendar Day 7:
So this tea is supposed to be steeped at 195F but my tea kettle doesn’t have that setting so I decided to steep it at 200F.
I found it kind of funny that today’s tea was a Almond Cherry Cranberry Black tea when my Harney & Sons Boston(Cranberry Almond Vanilla black) tea came in the mail today.
The packaging for this one is so pretty and really caught my eye.
The dry sachet smells very strong and reminds me of the Cherry flavored Benadryl that I used to love as a kid. I’m not so sure I want a Benadryl tasting tea tea haha so hopefully this one turns out okay.
Once steeped the smell and flavor are much more mellow than the dry sachet. I’m not a fan of this one though. The cherry flavor is still very medicinal tasting. I think they were maybe going for a boozy cherry flavor but it doesn’t quite work imo since it’s not coming across as a dessert kind of flavor. I can’t taste any cranberry in this in terms of sourness. Perhaps there is a bit of floral cranberry flavor that is just hidden among the cherry and almond medicinal notes. Maybe this tea would be better steeped at 195F but I think it would be pretty similar since it’s only a slight temperature difference. I haven’t tried many cherry teas so this was kind of disappointing.

Somehow a couple of these samples got lost when I moved awhile back and I just recently found them. I don’t know that I’ve ever tried a Jin Jun Mei before and usually steep my teas western since I do not have a Gongfu setup. One thing that bothered me a little bit was the packaging nor the website has steeping information for this tea. So I did a little research and followed Verdant’s steeping recommendation. I loved how clear the information was for me since I often don’t have time to do a bunch of short steeps. I drank this while working on my final test for Criminal Justice.
1st Steep-18 seconds
2nd Steep-28 seconds
3rd Steep-38 seconds (this particular steep was my favorite and had a lovely flavor)
4th Steep-48 seconds
5th Steep-58 seconds (this steep had started to lose flavor)
6th Steep- 5 minutes
Overall I got 4 good steeps from this tea and the third steep was my favorite.

Another Detox tea but honestly the order doesn’t matter so much to me I’m just happy to try them all.
The dry sachet of this one smells mostly like red rooibos to me.
Once steeped It has more of a fruity flavor that I can definitely tell is mango. This tea tastes quite similar to a tea my family brought me back from Europe. That one was ICA Rooibos & Mangosteen. This tea has a much higher quality rooibos since it is a loose leaf. This one is also more fruity than the other tea. I really actually like this one and could see myself drinking it as a nice caffeine free option. If this was on sale I would consider purchasing some of it. It’s not the most interesting tea but was still enjoyable to drink. This resteeped pretty well a second time.

Palais Des Thes Advent Calender Day 4:
I’m a little bummed by the order of this advent calendar so bar as the first two days were detox types teas and then this is the second bergamot tea in a row. I think they could’ve switched the order of teas up a little bit more.
I did forget about this tea while it was steeping but it only steeped a few minutes longer than it was supposed to. Luckily it doesn’t taste oversteeped at all.
This is a nice bergamot jasmine flavor combo very smooth with creamy notes of vanilla as well. I taste the bergamot more than the jasmine though and wish it was the opposite. It’s pleasant to drink but not one I feel the need to purchase.
Flavors: Bergamot, Creamy, Smooth, Vanilla

Palais Des Thes Advent Calendar Day 3:
I’m a pretty big fan of earl grey teas so I was excited for this one. The unsteeped tea sachet just smells like a typical earl grey. I drank this without milk or any additives.
Once steeped the tea is very smooth and creamy and the bergamot flavor is moderately strong. I’m not sure I love the Bergamot + Yunnan combo of this tea but that’s just me. I found that I enjoyed the taste of it a lot more after it cooled and was more of a lukewarm temperature.
I honestly would consider buying this one just because of how creamy and smooth it was which I haven’t found in other earl grey’s that I’ve tried before.

Palais Des Thes Advent Calender Day 1:
I’ve never tried this company before so that’s exciting and really haven’t tried any Parisian tea companies either. The little cloth tea sachet is cute and new to me as well. The smell of this sachet before steeping smells exactly like a DavidsTea tea I’ve tried before. I can’t remember what one but it has to be either a fruit tisane/herbal or a fruity tropical green tea/mate that they offer.
I followed the company’s steeping parameters for this cup.
The taste is quite different than the DavidsTea that I am reminded of though it is mainly the mate that I am tasting. The flavor is light as well which I’ve heard is common of Parisian teas. I can’t taste the green tea really at all but do get some butteriness from it. The passionfruit is quite delicate as well. The sachet mentions acai but I don’t taste that in this tea at all. You can definitely feel the effects of the caffeine from the mate in this one though. I don’t feel the need to purchase this one but it wasn’t a bad cup at all. Just not the most interesting I’d say. I’m not sure what to rate this one yet so my undecided rating is 50. I wish Steepster had a flavor that just said mate. I should have probably drank this earlier in the day since I have a Piano Performance tomorrow morning for school.
Flavors: Butter, Grass, Herbaceous, Passion Fruit, Tropical
I agree, ick.
And I got a sample of Boston to try in my Harney order! :D
Grape Dimetapp was DA BOMB! LOL
I always preferred the Cherry medicine flavors for some reason haha
@Cameron B. I also grabbed a sample of Soho to try and the Bartlett Pear tea you love so much if I remember right.
I do like Bartlett Pear! I got many samples and also several tins during their Black Friday weekend sale, heh.
