1908 Tasting Notes
I got several bags of this tea from a friend who lives over in England. It was supposed to arrive for X-mas, but Canada Post apparently backlogged all of its incomming deliveries.
The colour, when I add milk, is quite unique – it’s the exact colour of butterscotch, or maybe of creamy peanut butter. Maybe that’s the Kenyan tea they added ‘for colour’?
The tea is quite full-bodied and the tastes makes me think of toast, which seems quite appropriate all things considered. ;)
Preparation
When I opened the tin the first thing I thought was “Mmm, white chocolate…drool” -as you can probably guess, I’m a huge white chocolate fan, lol!
The taste unfortunately….really isn’t. It has a sort of green, vegetal taste to it with a touch of cardamom spice. It’s a taste that’s juuuust on the verge of being bitter, but not quite. Still, I was expecting something considerably sweeter and smoother. Maybe the water I used was too hot?
Preparation
You know, as much as I love the vanilla and coconut flavour, there does seem to be something missing with this tea. I think I was expecting a bit more strength and depth, particularly with the Irish Breakfast added in. It’s kind of a one-note tea, so I think I’ll drop the rating a little bit.
Preparation
This tea so wonderfully improved by adding milk so I’m going to up the rating a little bit. I’m noticing a distinct raspberry-ish aftertaste when I take a sip and the creamyness of the tea really works well with the milk.
Now if this tea were actually loose leaf then I could really get behind it. (God, that sounds so dirt!) XD
Preparation
Oddly enough for a green tea I think this one needs a higher temperature to really get the flavour out.
Preparation
I’ve just realize that I don’t really care for the smell of this tea – it’s almost too sickly sweet. Luckily the tea itself is toned down, otherwise I’d probably be gagging on it!
Preparation
How much of a deal breaker is the “smell” of your teas? I had a huge issue with the Honeybush Vanilla from Teavana that made me gag, however the tea itself wasn’t to strong.
For me it isn’t a huge deal as my nose tends to adapt to scents quickly so I no longer smell them. Still, I suppose it does take away from the whole ‘experience of tea’ if you’re into that.
haha I hope I’m not the only one that’s “into that”. Maybe I need to keep trying? Did you get your “Zodiac Series” as a complimentary purchase?
Yes, it’s matched with your birthday. Since my birthday is in July and I fall under the Cancer Zodiac sign, that was the tea I got. It’s only a sample-sized container so if it turns out you don’t care for the one you get then it’s really not much waste.
Well that’s the end of this sample packet unfortunately. This is another one I’m adding to my get-again list; I’m completely in love with the smoothness and the complexity of this tea. It’s rare to find a blend of tea types that works so well. I especially love all the cute little, perfect, bright-green buds that float to the surface after the tea has been steeping for a little while.
Preparation
It’s two dollars for the sampler, which is enough for 2-3 cups. I think a tin is worth it, but you might want to try the sampler before you dive.
I live in Denver and love the local library’s redeco for the Summit of Eight in 1997. Will have to try this tea, too, to make the experience complete :)
I finally got to try out the temperature-setting feature on my new kettle – so awesome! This tea is pretty mild, the recommended steeping time is 1-3 minutes so I went down the middle with two min, but now I’m wondering if I should have steeped this longer.
The jasmine odor is quite faint, which is not neceesarily a bad thing – I’m not a fan of the jasmine teas that stink of perfume. But the taste is equally faint; basically it tastes like water that had only a passing aquaintance with green tea and jasmine. Meh.
I’m crossing my fingers that my swap letter for you should be arriving soonishly too, then!
Mmmm….this sounds good.
