558 Tasting Notes
Thanks to Soccermom I got to try this tea last night. I was excited to relax with such a deep purple steep of tea. I love the scent of this tea. The cinnamon and plum together are very calming/warming. I needed warmth after the cool rain that came in last night.
The taste of this tea is first plum, than cinnamon, and a bit of hibiscus on the aftertaste. I really like how mellow the spices are in this blend. I enjoyed this more when it was steaming hot, then when it cooled down (I forgot about it while I was reading steepster notes and checking email). I could see having this several nights a week and look forward to purchasing more my next trip to Whole Foods. Thanks again, SoccerMom
Preparation
Learned this morning that I don’t quite care for this with a bit of cream. It’s much more chocolate-y all by itself. I might try a second steep today (if I ever make it through this first cuppa) of additive free dawn. I do enjoy this tea in the mornings, surprisingly enough.
I have to sheepishly admit that I thought that we were already following one another! ::facepalm:: Glad to get that corrected :D
I thought I was already following you as well. Then I saw morgana’s comment about your tea cozy and I realized I hadn’t seen this and couldn’t think of how I missed it…unless I wasn’t following you. And yup, that was it. Love the tea cozy pic btw!
Ruined this tonight with too hot water. That or my cold is making this taste really bitter and not as sweet as it normally is. Off to make a new cup.
I haven’t found a hibiscus tea I like more than this one. It is so naturally sweet, so wonderfully pineapple-y and just all around great. I’m hoarding this until I can get more. Not enough funds for a whole order online (nor room in the cupboard). Wish this was available loose so I could make up a pitcher of it (although I like it so much I would drink a pitcher a day, so probably better to savor it).
Needed something refreshing today. This certainly does the trick. I think having my next steeping over ice will make it even more so. Especially paired with my deliciously fruity poppyseed salad tonight. I’m loving this sunny weather! This tea can cure my blues on a cool and cloudy day, but I’d rather be sipping it on a warm and sunny day!
Thank you Kristin for sending this tea my way.
I love the size and shape of the large black tea leaves. They remind me that I really need (want) to get a tea scale/food scale so I can weigh my teas out. These were hard leaves to measure by the teaspoon. I just used a few pinches of tea. Dawn’s dry leaves smell like a decadent dark chocolate. Like those Lindt 80% cacao bars right after peeling away the tinfoil. Wow!
The wet leaves turn a little sweeter, a honey sweetness to the dark chocolate. This tea wasn’t as pungent looking or smelling as I was afraid of. It is a nice, sweet, slightly earthy tea. I do smell something earthy (not quite the manure Kristin mentioned) but their is something there that I can’t quite place. But oddly enough I like it in this tea.
Mucho Gracias Kristin.
Preparation
This tea brews up a deep lilac/blueberry color. The taste is amazingly blueberry without being quite tart. Their are notes of honey and soft flavorings of white tea. Mmmm…great afternoon/evening tea. Quite calming tonight.
Preparation
I believe this is the same tea a the sample I was sent titled “bengal green spice”. The picture looks the same as what is in the tin, and the steeping instructions are the same, so I believe they are the same. If not, I will create a new listing. I couldn’t find Bengal Green Chai on Adagio’s website, but a search for it resulted in me finding this tea.
I was a bit put off by the cinnamon flavoring in this tea. It tastes more like cinnamon red hots than like fresh or ground cinnamon. I personally don’t like cinnamon red hots in my tea, but can see others liking this. This is a milder version of Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice Green Tea. I will finish my sample of it, but it won’t be a re-order for me. I really wanted to like this tea, as I love Adagio’s Oriental Spice, and was hoping for similar notes in this with a green base.
Preparation
Same tea- no clue why they changed the name… although I think you’re confusing “bengal green chai” and “green spice”… 2 different teas that taste exactly the same just like their masala chai and oriental spice- don’t ask me why they have virtual duplicates.
Ah, that’s it, it’s the Spiced Green I wanted to try. Maybe I’ll have to pick up a sample of that to see if the cinnamon is more toned down. I haven’t tried their Masala Chai, but like their Oriental Spice, so maybe I’ll like green spice better? Who knows. Thanks for the clarification Cofftea!
