516 Tasting Notes
Second steep!
It’s already proving it’s monetary worth to me with the quality of steep #2. The liquor is just as rich and deeply coloured. The taste is even more smooth and inviting.
I LOVE the aftertaste, it’s amazing! Tastes like I just finished eating a real peach.
In fact, it tastes like I just aped out inside a giant peach a la James and the Giant Peach.
And so, I rename my little oolong bag to: Daisy and the Giant Peach
ohhh em gee, my first Oolong what do I do?! It’s steeping!! What do I do! It smells so good :D
It even looks buttery, oh my gosh I love peach! IMSOEXCITED
Why yes, I am dramatic. and yes, I do have a bachelor of fine arts degree. I studied 4 years to be this dramatic so deal with it! :D That’s what I tell my poor boyfriend anyways.
Speaking of anyways – THIS TEA
First steep: A little over 4 min.
The colour of this tea is so vibrant! The smell is more muted than the dry smell of course, but it’s gorgeous and I want to bathe in it. My first Oolong o: It’s very tasty, and I really didn’t know what to expect! It has a very full body, I feel like I could use this tea as a lunch replacement when I’m still full from breakfast haha.
I like it, it is earthy, as it the way of the oolong I suppose. I can’t wait to compare this to the milk oolong I also purchased.
It’s sweet and hits the spot! I’m very impressed.
Subsequent steeps to come. I’m savouring it in the meantime.
Hokay you guys. Okay. Okay. I can’t even putinto words what i did with this tea last night. Okay?! Deep breaths.
So I wanted to try making tea cookies, with tea infused butter. I chose this tea because a black tea seemed smart for the first try. Oh my god. DO IT. Okay I digress, I chose a simple Whipped Shortbread recipe because it would totally allow the flavour to come through if I did it right. (I used 1 cup margarine, 3/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 3/4 cup flour).
To make the butter (margarine because I’m cheap) it’s just one tablespoon of loose tea to every tablespoon of butter. In my case, I eye balled it and used way more than I should have because it was my first time, but the flavour was over the top so you don’t need to use that much!
Anyways, the smell of the butter was just.. honey and raspberry and I wanted to eat the leaves right then and there. But I made the cookies. And they were amazing, I can’t even describe in this super long rating. SO – got a cheap black tea that is bitter or meh? Make cookies.
I’ll be sending this out at a sample to a few people, so if it’s meh to you too, give a recipe a try!
Edit: If I knew an cheap and safe way to send these to each and every one of you, I would in a heatbeat. I have plans now for blazing strawberry cookies with a little bit of pepper and strawberries in the mix
I bought a bag of organic shortbread cookie mix a while ago that’s still yet to be made, maybe I should throw some tea in.
Absolutely! Do you have to add butter or milk to it? Whatever it is, put tea in it and your life will be changed.
Perfect.
here’s the recipe I used to help with the butter infusing! I just poured my butter through a paper Tsac to strain the tea from the butter and I found it worked pretty well. You could prob also use a metal strainer or a paper towel or something!

thankyou!! I looove cooking. I’m totally making tea infused shortbread cookies today. Now to decide which tea to use.
Still delish. Iced again.
Except I swear the people at DavidsTea don’t like me for some reason :\
It better not be because I come in too much, I want their tea and they better want my business haha.
Anywho! I can really taste the peppercorns today. I think it’s because I had a lot of Blazing Strawberry lately, so I can more easily pick that taste out now.
I was going to adjust the rating, but no I think it is spot on!
I recently had my first David’s Tea Sipdown (thanks TEB :D ) of a mix of this tea and the rest of my Swampwater. It was yummy, but I don’t think I’ll restock next summer if it shows up again.
But who knows, it’s a year from now. Maybe I will. haha!
Agreed. Yummy, juicy, but not really work keeping in stock, for me. It was good, just not…amazing, you know?
Yeah definitely! It’s hard to articulate in words, but our mouths definitely know what we’re talking about haha
I have to adjust my rating on Luscious Watermelon I think, because this tea just stole my heart.
I can’t believe I hadn’t tried this tea yet. It is AMAZING. (Iced in store)
Incredibly fruity and juicy, I’m getting lots of ripe mangoes and a fuzzy peach sort of after taste, which I am loving. The only bad thing is that I haven’t tried it until now, when summer is reaching it’s bitter end. le Sigh.
Preparation
Iced time!
So I did the hot brew over ice at home, praying my glasses wouldn’t shatter. Haha not my way of choice for sure, mostly because my ice cubs taste slightly like my freezer – not noticable in pop or juice, but def noticable in tea. So yuck. But other than that, yum!
So I have a big pot in the fridge for tonight, hot-cold brewing. haha I used my usual method for iced teas that aren’t green or black (aka bitter) – just fill the pot with hot water and leave it in the fridge with the tea bag still in it over night. Yum.
I stole a bit of it last night as it was still warm, poured it over ice with a splash of white zinfandel. IM IN LOVE!!! Do this. You deserve it. It’s so so so so so good.
I’ve noticed Davids Teas have the best aftertastes of any flavored tea for some reason.
I LOVE James and the Giant Peach. c:
Thank god I’m going to David’s Tea this weekend – this sounds delicious!
It really is. It’s a little more pricey, but I got 50g for $9 and it’s way too much tea, especially with the amount of steeps you get out of it! I got 4 today, and the flavour has hardly dulled at all. So I bet 25g would last a long long time :)
It was funny I was downstairs trying to figure out what tea to have and I went for this one. I think I might have been influnenced by having just read your review Daisy. I have left the tsac in and it is wonderful. I will add more hot water later and see how it does.
You know, I resteeped my bag from yesterday twice more and it was still good. It’s magical really.
Thanks for letting me know about the 4 resteeps – I ended up getting 4 out of mine yesterday too thanks to you!
Nice! I only got 3 quality steeps the other day, but I think it depends what the ratio of tea:fruit chunks is! Either way, it’s a great tea, may the tea gods bless you with many steeps to come :D
