865 Tasting Notes
Full bowl combined w/ Den’s Matcha Kaze. Although it wasn’t really equal parts. Mandarin matcha is so fine I end up w/ a lot more on the scoop than w/ my other 2 matchas. Actually kinda made my stomach funky. :( I guess there is such a thing as too much matcha… :,( A friend I haven’t seen since I graduated HS 5 yrs ago is coming over so I’ll back logging what we both drink after she leaves.
Preparation
I have the mint leaves from my morning matcha I wanted to use up so I added 3g of gunpowder to them and drank it w/ my tortilla crusted fish lean cuisine which is actually really good for microwaved fish. Yum!
Preparation
I’ve been avoiding this one. Definitely not because I won’t enjoy it, but because it reminds me of my ex fiance. So I figure just dive in, finish it up, and order some when I’m in a better place emotionally. I have enough for 2 cups! Yay!
2.25g/6oz water. I was completely dead set against rose teas when I started my relationship w/ teas, but even then thought raw tea w/ rose mixed in was very pretty. The dark ceylon is a good contrast. I just wish there were more.
Wow this steeps up dark! Just like coffee. The aroma is definitely sweet due to the chocolate/strawberry combo. The flavors hit my tongue in the order I like- black tea, chocolate, strawberry… but… no rose! I’m gonna cry:,(. I love the idea of this so I think I’m going to do my own experimentation. 1.12g strawberry, 1.12g chocolate and .56-1.12g dried rose petals. This would have gotten a higher rating from me if they just would have eliminated them because I wouldn’t have been anticipating them. Serving suggestion: 1tsp-1TB white chocolate creamer.
Preparation
Double orange mint matcha. 1.5g orangemint steeped in 8oz water for 3 min then added to 1 scoop matcha and whisked in my matcha bowl. Quite minty, the orange comes thru as more of a sweetness, and the typical savory vegetal matcha flavor is also there.
Preparation
Had a 12oz pepppermint hot chocolate yesterday and saved half. Poured it in my matcha bowl w/ 1 scoop of matcha and drank it while watching the season premire of Biggest Loser. Yeah I know, but all things in moderation:) The ratio of hot chocolate/ matcha was perfect… minty… sweet… indulgent… yet savory. The perfect grown up hot chocolate!
I’m on quite the ginger peach (which would be amazing added to strawberry by the way), but sadly I’m out of ginger teas. Not that I don’t have PLENTY other teas… But wait, I have this! It isn’t a peach flavored oolong, but I do think that it has a peachy taste so I think I’ll use this:)
2.25g Dancong Aria/1.12g ginger/6oz water.
Wow! Yep. I was right. Even though I added ginger, the peachy flavor is still there. It’s a wonderful balance of tea, peach, and ginger. I think I might even like this better than their actual peach oolong!:)
Preparation
Was just blessed by a great 45 min conversation w/ the person I thought I was least likely to ever speak to again so I decided to have a half bowl of this to celebrate. Smooth and creamy on my tongue. Slightly sweet, slightly grassy w/ a bit of orange.
Preparation
My other white ginger tea option- again, thanks to Ricky. Kinda winging it. I only have 2.16g, but I still made a 6oz cup. Added 1.12g of ginger root. I don’t have the original tin as a reference, but I’ve been warned about outrageous steeping time suggestions w/ Adagio whites so I went w/ 3min. And I’m glad I did. Whoa! Holy liquor! So much darker than I expected. So is the aroma. It smells distinctly of true tea w/ a hint of peach, but it bites my nose as well which assures me that inspite of the strong tea, the ginger won’t be drowned out. As expected, it’s a very strong white tea. A bit of peach (wish there was more), and a bite of ginger. This is definitely not a “wine cooler tea”. (Some guys give wine coolers a bad rap for being fruity and sissy). Strong, yet sweet. Think Southern Comfort. I’ll probably buy a sample tin of this.
Preparation
2nd infusion celebrating being blessed that I was near the beginning of the UPS delivery route and not the end. And the fact that my computer was delivered today and not tomorrow. Liquor is ever so slightly lighter and the aroma is more peachy. The tea taste is lighter, but I’m not sure I’d identify it as a white if I didn’t know it. The peach comes thru more and is warmed by the ginger.
3rd infusion, 5 min. Liquor still isn’t much lighter. The aroma is sweet, both from the peaches and from the tea itself, not necessarily fruity though. No ginger sent. The white tea is definitely coming thru w/ just a hint of peach and warmth from the ginger.
One day I shall get a tea scale and I will weight the tea leaves properly so you can make a delicious eight ounce cup of tea.
Haha Ricky, actually my preference for anything except Japanese greens is 6oz. But that’s only because I don’t know if other teas have varied water amounts for their steeping parameters like Japanese greens do. I do; however, know a wonderful woman that will give you a wonderful deal on a tea scale:)
4th infusion, 6 min w/ leftover eggplant parmigana. Even more white tea-esk. Sweet. Actually between the light tea taste, the sweetness, and the bite the ginger gives, it kinda tastes like a hot sweet white wine. yummy?
Now there’s talk of pumpkin chocolate matcha… yummy! That would be the perfect sweet/savory combo. But alas, I don’t have that. So it’s thick spiced rum matcha today. 3oz water/1scoop matcha/1TB spiced rum creamer. I love the idea of a rum creamer, but not too sure I like the creamy texture of it. Maybe 52teas will come up w/ something. In the mean time, rum extract goes on my grocery list.:)
