865 Tasting Notes
After my large amount of cooked pu erh today I decided to treat myself to something vastly different. This is one of my favorite whites. It’s light, sweet, crisp, clean, flirty, and gives me warm fuzzies like the texture of the raw leaves. Served w/ a clementine. I love jasmine… Jasmine is interesting… to me it doesn’t read like a lot of florals. Neither of the jasmine teas I’ve had (this and an oolong) say “garden” or “perfumey” to me like rose can. It marries with the tea like the chocolate and vanilla in twist ice cream, but does not cover it either.
Preparation
2nd infusion, 4min. A lovely golden color. Well, lovely in my cup… not so much in our outdated 70s kitchen. Sweet, jasminey, and a solid white tea flavor.
Left over BBQ tea spice rub chicken breast.
Nice idea. I like to make stir fry sauce with mine….add some orange juice and it rounds it all out nicely.
Oh yum! You should post the recipe in the Cooking w/ Tea thread. I like the idea, but I think Adagio’s sesame black may be a better tea for that recipe,
Great… I got some blood test results back and my cholesterol levels are elevated. Don’t ask me how that happened, I couldn’t eat out if I wanted to. The blessings of being poor I guess? Anyway, the little info card I got from Rishi says pu erh “helps metabolize fatty acids and oily foods, is believed to reduce cholesterol and blood sugar levels, and is cleansing and detoxifying to the bloodstream” so I’m gonna give it a shot. My only question is, do raw and cooked pu erh both have these effects? I prefer raw, but I have more cooked at this point, and it isn’t bad so that’s what I’m drinking.
6g leaf plus the 3g of ginger left over from flavoring my matcha this morning and 6oz water. Rinsed for 15 sec w/ almost boiling water, decanted, and rise water tossed. 1st steep 20 sec.
Whoa! The rinse water smells like fish food this time… nasty. Luckily the 1st steep doesn’t. Not feeling it as much as the 1st time I tried it. Oh well, doesn’t affect my rating.
Preparation
I don’t ‘like’ the fact that your levels are elevated but I LIKE the fact that you enjoy this tea! :) Just wanted to clarify that!!! Sorry about the fishy-ness! :P
Haha, yeah cuz if you liked my high cholesterol that’d be a deal breaker on our friendship lol. It isn’t my favorite pu erh, but it does the job.
Oatmeal. Cheap and shown to help lower cholesterol. Add some “good oils” like flax seed or fish oil to your diet. Those two things might make a difference!
I know, but oatmeal makes me gag. lol. And I’m not a cereal person so I dunno if I could do cheerios. That just seems like a lot of carbs to me. Fish oil doesn’t thrill me, but I do love salmon as well as lean cuisine’s tortilla crusted fish so I’ll reserve the pills for the days I don’t eat fish. Garlic is good too- and I LOVE garlic. 4 cloves a day they suggest.
This is by far the most time intensive matccha flavoring I’ve done so far. 3g ginger root steeped in 8oz water for 3 min, decanted, and then steeped 1 bag of ROT’s Get Relaxed! in the ginger water for 7 min. Then I added the infusion to one scoop matcha. The ginger was surprisingly strong, almost over powering. The rose, although I wish it had been stronger, was a lovely addition, and the mandarin oange provided a nice sweetness. A word of warning though- this is not a pretty color… almost sewer-ish.
Attempted to make a caramel apple chai latTEA… read more here: http://steepster.com/discuss/291-i-cant-believe-that-happened
Preparation
Wow, I didn’t have this yet today! I didn’t get around to drinking tea before lunch (chicken breast w/ Dr. Tea’s BBQ tea rub and a salad), so I had a half bowl for dessert. And it works. It’s slightly sweet, rich, and creamy. As I tipped back the bowl to get the last drops, my mom (who thinks matcha looks gross so she won’t try it) looks at me and says “What? No crust?” It’s a joke in our family. I tend to leave something on my plate after a meal. Like w/ hamburgers (how the phrase got started), I almost always leave about half of the very outter edge of the burger (typically the back or end farthest from my mouth) because the edges can dry out. I do this w/ chicken and pizza as well. If I don’t leave any crust, you know I love it! So, NO CRUST!=D
2nd infusion, 20 sec. I love how this tea is a “jack of all trades”… sweet, complex, crisp, slightly bitter, smooth, clean.
Surprise! I actually got my mom to try this! She’s even more hyper sensitive about avoiding things that look or sound weird.
4th infusion, 20 sec. Slightly more pronounced liquor and flavor.
5th infusion w/ lemon peper salmon and apple cider vinegar and onion french cut green beans.
Hahah Imperial Concubine…. SCANDALOUS!
6th infusion w/ a granny smith apple and fat free caramel apple dip
Dude Cofftea you are going the absolute extra mile haha
huh?
6th infusion haha sorry should have clarified!
You can mix this with silver needles and get Imperial Porcupine :)
TeaCast, actually pu erhs can be steeped up to 12 infusions. Or so I’ve heard. I don’t think I’ll get that far tonite though. Maybe tomorrow.
Robert, HAHA! That’s just awesome.
Imperial Porcupine… LOL
Better yet, Jasmine Silver Needle to make it even more feminine I actually thought of that yesterday as I was drinking my JSN.
Oh no kidding! Wow that’s really cool I didn’t know that :). Any Pu-Erh, or does it depend?
Idk, I’d think any.
