Okay, so after “seeing” ashmanra enjoying her new Minnie Mouse tea, I decided to take a (short) break from my sipdown madness and crack open one of the Disney teas that I ordered from Harney. I ended up getting Moana (green tea with mango, pineapple, orange, and coconut) and Snow White (white tea with apple) just because those were the flavors that appealed most to me. And I happen to love Moana (the movie) as well, and I just got back from a vacation in Hawai’i, so it worked out perfectly!

This tin is so cute, and the fact that it has a silhouette of Heihei (the chicken) on one of the sides gets bonus points from me, ha ha… The dry scent is intoxicating, strong juicy mango with pineapple and a hint of coconut.

And it tastes amazing too! Which makes me so, so happy because I just love this whole Disney collection. It reminds me of Passion Orange juice, which is super common in Hawai’i (along with Passion Orange Guava or POG). I guess the mango and pineapple are combining here to remind me of passion fruit? Mango is definitely the strongest flavor for me, with the pineapple adding tanginess and the orange giving it a citrusy-sweet note. The coconut is subtle at first, but blooms into a lovely creamy aftertaste that reminds me of sticky rice. The green base here is bancha, but you don’t taste a lot of it because the flavoring is quite powerful. I do pick it up at the very beginning of the sip, and it has a grassy flavor with hints of seaweed. It sounds weird, but I actually kind of like how it cuts through those ripe and juicy fruit notes every now and then.

Anyway, so pleased with this one. I’m not usually that interested in tropical green teas, just because I feel like it’s a category that’s been done to death and they tend to all taste similar. But I think this is a really nice execution of that flavor profile, and would definitely recommend it to mango lovers!

Oh dear, now I want this one, too! This is why my sip downs can’t happen fast enough! I guess I have to finish another tea today.

I need to know if Snow White is wonderful! Make room for a cup?

Oh, and I think our uncle was in Hawaii at the same time as you, celebrating his…let me see…93rd? birthday!

Hi, I’m Cameron!

I’m a 30-something software engineer currently living in Austin, Texas with my husband and our two pugs, Gobo and Ume. I tend to cycle between my different hobbies, and they include piano, knitting, video games, board games, miniature painting, planners, bento, Korean skincare, and – of course – TEA! But really, what I’m best at is “collecting” hobby-related things… ;)

~ 2024 SIPDOWN CHALLENGE! ~
- November sipdowns: 13
- Total 2024 sipdowns: 156

I prefer my tea lukewarm or at room temperature and without milk or sugar. I steep Western style, and fluctuate between using big mugs or small teapots depending on the season.

I am always up for a swap! Just let me know if you’d like to try something in my cupboard.

Tea Preferences:
I enjoy both flavored and unflavored teas in many forms. These days, I drink mostly flavored teas, and I tend to gravitate most toward black, green, oolong, and herbal varieties. I do have a special fondness for straight Japanese green teas, however.

I do not sweeten my teas, and pre-sweetened teas are usually too sweet for me. I also do not enjoy stevia.

I tend to reach for fruitier flavors rather than desserty ones these days, but I do have favorites from both categories. Willing to try anything once! There are a few ingredients/flavors that aren’t generally my jam, such as coconut, rose, lavender, and chocolate flavoring. But I also have teas that I love with some of those things, too! :)

Favorite Companies:
3 Leaf
Bird & Blend
Dammann Frères
Harney & Sons
Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms
Lupicia
Old Barrel Tea Co
Simpson & Vail
Taiwan Tea Crafts
TeaVivre

Tea Rating Scale:
90-100: Outstanding! Permanent cupboard resident
80-89: Great – a possible staple
70-79: Good, but I wouldn’t buy it
60-69: It’s decent
50-59: Meh… I may or may not have finished the cup
40-49: Ick. Couldn’t finish it.
00-39: Repulsive, I spat it out

I will sometimes refrain from rating a tea if I feel I’m too biased due to my personal dislikes, or if I suspect the sample has been compromised by age or scent contamination.
