Lady Grey

I have now had this without milk, but with honey. SO GOOD! No overpowering “Fruit Loops” taste. Just a sunny, happy, cup of tea. I promptly made myself another cup. :)

We are sick today, so trying a few different teas with honey. My husband really enjoyed this one. We both felt that the honey really complemented the flavors in the tea.

Possibly my favourite non-herbal bagged tea? It’s just so nice and citrus-y. Not bitter at all. I drank this while sitting out on a blanket in the sun with my friend from high school, reading and talking just like we used to. :)

I had this tea for the first time just a couple of days ago, but forgot to submit my review. I love it! It’s a nice, light tea, with layers of orange, lemon, and bergamot over the black tea. I found it quite refreshing as an afternoon tea, and it’s definitely one of my favorites.

Got this one for Christmas as part of a family “white elephant” Christmas exchange. Somehow I got so lucky as to get the bag of tea and nice mug. :)

All of the teas are bagged, as is this, but that’s ok for those times hen I want something easy.

My son, who is 8, has recently started drinking evening teas before bedtime. It started one night when he couldn’t sleep and I didn’t want to give him Benadryl or something, so I offered him some Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea. I thought I would make it and then he would turn his nose up at it, but the picture of the bear on the packaging won him over and he drank it, went to bed and went right to sleep.

This afternoon he asked me what kinds of teas you drink at breakfast or in the afternoon. I showed him a good variety & even had him smell some of the loose leaf teas we have. He wanted something more plain, so we went for the box of Twinings w/a variety. I thought I picked up the Earl Grey, but soon realized I had the Lady Grey and it was already opened. I went ahead and steeped it for him, added a little sugar & milk, the way my mom always did for me, and he gave it a try. Said he liked it, but we didn’t have much time before we had to leave for Cub Scouts so he didn’t finish it.

I took a sip myself since it was my first try of anything Lady Grey. I’ve only ever had Earl Grey before. I had read tasting notes on Lady Greys before, and understood there to be citrus/lemon undertones, but wow… Maybe it’s just me and my lack of familiarity with lemon & tea. I have had lemonade and sweet tea together before .. Bleck. This to me was an earl type base tea with very present lemon flavor, smooth and not bitter or tart. Others have mentioned Fruit Loop in their description.. Maybe think lemon Fruit Loops. :). I bet if I mention that to my son he will ask for another cuppa!

Not bad, the bergamot flavour is light and the other citrus aromas are nice, but I can’t taste the black tea as much as I would like to. This is something I find disappointing in several Twinings blends. Overall, this is truly refreshing and it goes down very well. This review is about the bagged form of this tea. After reading other tasting notes it seems like the loose leaf version is better. Oh, and Uniquity is so right about it tasting like Froot Loops!

I was in the mood for a tea latte today so I made a “Lady london fog”. I added some french vanilla syrup and steamed milk. NOM. I think I added a wee bit too much of milk because the taste of the tea isnt super present. I’ll try again next time!

SO this is a good staple tea for me. It is the lighter version of earl grey and very soothing. I had this tea this weekend to ward off the sore throat and it semi-worked.

The worst thing I could say about this tea was it didn’t have enough bergamot oil. But that’s the whole premise of this tea, so my evaluation doesnt count. It was delicious! Might steep a bit longer next time just to get ALL the flavor…just have to remember not to let my tea get cold while steeping!! hhahaha, I lean more towards robust.

Anyway, good standard black tea. But just daintier.

I’ve been on a bit of a sample spree lately (as you can see!) I kept ordering teas that were described as “light earl greys,” because I had the idea that I would like one (I do love regular Earl Grey, but I remembered having a lovely light one in the cabinet years ago.) Without exception I hated them all – they too sharp and yet flavorless at the same time. Finally I sampled “Indian Nimbu” by Harney and Sons (review coming… I need another cup to decide what I think) which I was not expecting to have the Earl Grey flavor. There it was – it was the lemon that I was missing! And then the light went off – Lady Grey! That’s the tea I was remembering.

Back in college I remember picking up a Twinings sampler pack. I’d never had real teas – only herbals. I fell in love with all the teas (except the Irish Breakfast, but that’s just a Twinings dislike.) I had forgotten Lady Grey entirely! So I went on a search – it was not so easy to find – but I tracked it down to World Market.

This is what I was remembering – it’s light and lemony in the most comforting way. With milk and sugar it reminds me of the lemon pizzelle cookies that my Mom used to make for Christmas (I may or may not have bought some to go with my tea!) It does taste like the Earl, but it’s with all the sharp edges removed. This is the perfect afternoon tea for me, delicate but with enough caffeine to get me through.

Another delight tonight . the Cirtus notes make it a nice kick to the usual Earl Greys. Being Sick the past week, it was a sweet welcome to have back :)
