Lady Grey

This is my “desk tea” aka “work tea”, sadly though I am becomming a tad bored with it. It’s still yummy and a great bagged tea, but I just need a change. For my change I really want a pu-erh that is bagged and still good… so I will be stopping by Whole Foods after work and hoping they have Numi’s pu-erh blends there and if so I’ll be getting 2 different boxes…I know for sure the chocolate pu-erh one. Now, lets just keep our fingers crossed that they have them in stock!

got a few bags of this in a tea swap I did. So glad to be reunited with my lady. Pay Day is Friday. I am buying a GIANT box. mmmmmmmmmm.

Twinings order 7/27

I’m continually amazed by their bagged teas. The base is rather strong, but very smooth. The bergamot is a lot lighter than the Earls I’ve had, but is definitely there. Between the smoothness of the base and the bergamont I’m almost getting an Earl Dreamsicle type flavor. Very good. I’m tempted to give this a 100, but I want to compare it to others 1st.

Contrary to popular belief, I do drink bagged teas. Twinings has a few that I drink. I do like Lady Grey, it has the bergamot of an EG and lemon and orange zest. Sometimes in the mornings I’m so groggy that its very hard to make loose leaf tea so I use a bag. Lady Grey is mellow, tasty, not bitter and little to no astringency. I really like it.

Consuming this today for the ease factor. We didn’t actually stay up late last night, but have I’ve been running on empty for a while now and today feels like the appropriate day to chill.

I really don’t know if ‘gentle citrus flavor’ is how I would describe this one. It’s like drinking a subtle (and not soapy) Earl Grey with accents of orange and yellow fruitloops. Despite being a bagged offering, this really works, and makes a sunny, happy cup. This would be a good EG for people who don’t like bergamot.

Always a good choice for thinking work!

This is a much gentler tea than most Earl Greys, the citrus and bergamot are a smooth-tasting hint rather than a bold statement.

This was a pretty good light earl grey. I think that the lemon and orange were a little too strong though, overwhelming the bergamont a little.

As far as earl greys go, I like them a little stronger than this.

It might make a good iced tea though.

It is pretty good for a bagged tea, easier to cart around and steep compared to loose leaf.

Feeling really lazy this morning, so I did the standard bagged tea. I know, shame on me, but I still have some of it and I need to drink it before it gets more stale-tasting than it already does.

So it was Twinings Lady Grey this morning, and I have to say, it still sort of holds its own against the loose leaf I’ve tasted. It’s still probably the best Earl Grey I’ve had so far (and I’ve really hated quite a few), and it has a somewhat smooth but floral and citrus flavor. I was somewhat on autopilot this morning, drinking without thinking. So is it a complete knock-out? No. But I wouldn’t be disappointed if someone served me a steaming hot cup of this.

TSTTB Tea #4!

This was included in the box of bagged selections. I took one for old times sake — I used to drink lots and lots of bagged Twinings in the 1990s!

I came home from school this afternoon craving a cup of tea but quick. I said, why not make that little bag of Lady Grey you have sitting in your cupboard?" I planned to use sugar and a splash of milk because I wasn’t expecting the highest of leaf qualities.

Guess what? It’s completely satisfying and delicious. I wouldn’t call it complex. You taste ORANGE and TEA. But the orange and tea are delightful. The tea is a little astringent, but it’s pleasant. The milk and sugar give it a creamcicle quality that I love.

You know how much I liked it? I liked it so much that I went digging in the traveling tea box to take the OTHER bag that was in there :) (Don’t worry — I’m going to put in some A & D Mt. Gray so people will have some more Earl for tasting).

This tea was such a nice reminder that there are really enjoyable bagged teas out there which are widely available. I am so going to pick up a box of this on my next shopping expedition. Yay traveling teabox!
