1024 Tasting Notes
Sipdown #9: getting rid of that last sample teabag I stole from a hotel’s tea stash a year ago.
Drinking this makes me feel ill. But not in a bad way. Just because for so many years this tea was my go-to whenever I had a cold virus! These days I’m more likely to reach for a more complex blend by a local tea company, but T2’s lemongrass & ginger will always hold a special place in my nostalgic heart. Still tasty and soothing with a dollop of honey, refreshing without.
Sipdown #8 for 2014. I didn’t dislike this as much as I expected to—the first mouthful was heinously licorice-laden but the awful sweetness mellowed out after that first mouthful. I wanted to drink something energising due to not having any morning coffee around and while I’m not going to restock, I’m glad I got to try this sample.
Preparation
I love the dry scent of this (not quite as much as the crack huffing I do with Fantasy Island) but 5mins ended up a little bitter, it would seem. Probably a knock of sugar would sort this out but I’m too lazy to get off the couch tonight. Can’t wait to sleep in tomorrow morning!
Preparation
One away from a sipdown, though I’ll save that for an iced beverage (maybe tomorrow, with highs of almost 30°C on my day off?).
Lower steep temperature than recommended if only because I am at work and forgot to throw the tea in. I’M THE BEST. Because of the lower temperature I went for the max recommended time… and then overshot by a mile because I got stuck on a call and got too focused on it! (Probably a good thing when at work that my tea suffered rather than my customer.)
IT’S STILL DELICIOUS
This is a favourite of mine and it’s going to be tough for me to not go out and restock this ASAP, but my current rule is that once it’s gone, it’s gotta stay gone until my total cupboard count comes down a bit. As soon as that rule’s relaxed, I’ll be restocking this one. I just hope T2 still have some in stock when I want it! This one’s known to come and go…

Preparation
I guess steeping this for too long overwhelms any mango flavour in here, because I NEVER pick up much of a mango scent. I’d love to, because I love mango, and Brisbane is my hometown, but gosh. I’ve got just enough of this left to try one more infusion for the time being but there are plenty of other T2 city breakfast teas I prefer. Oh well.
Preparation
Sipdown #5: Oh, ok, phew. I get this tea now. My first steep last night didn’t go so well—I oversteeped, and the bitterness almost knocked me over. Saved with a heaped teaspoon of sugar, but I wanted to make sure I Did It Right with my next (and last) cup (this was one of my free DAVIDsTEA online order samples). Infused in my Timolino and then brought to work with me, because we all know when I try to steep at work I always oversteep.
I totally get a nose full of maltiness from this tea now that I’ve sorted things out with my second brew. It’s rich and the hint of bitterness is probably what leads people to the coffee conclusion but for me it’s definitely just a heavy tea tannin, really gutsy. Lovely. Glad I sorted this out but now sad I don’t have more, hahaha.

Bleh. Such a bother to save the last cup only for disappointment. I hope you have better teas today!
