Sipdown #2! Look at me go! Another sample.

I almost butchered this with a too-long steep when I already had double the recommended leaves in the infuser. Saved with a couple spoonfuls of sugar and a healthy dollop of cream. In fact, it’s kind of delicious now…

drank Sencha Mango by T2

Official sipdown #1 now that my full kitchen stocks are loaded in here: this one was a sample from in store in late January when I needed something for a cocktail (see previous tasting note).

We’re into the first week of Autumn down here but for some reason the weather wanted to give us a reminder of Summer today, and I walked home in that sun! So a nice iced tea was in order for my return. I even threw in a mint ice cube for a little kick. Fresh and refreshing without being too sweet, just a hint of mango.

drank Irish Breakfast by T2

Breakfast time with a drop of cream and sugar.

In other news, I thought I finally had every last skerrick of tea in my house added to my cupboard, and then I remembered the extra box. Another five. Including samples, I’m up to 90. That’s it—I’m on a tea ban. NO NEW TEA IS ENTERING THIS HOUSE oh except for that swap with ashleyelizabeth. Ooh maybe I’ll crack 100 teas then… wait, this is not a goal to aspire to.

drank Le Digestif (Organic) by DAVIDsTEA

Ok, I think this is a tea I’ll have around for medicinal purposes, not enjoyment purposes. It tastes fine but doesn’t really have anything I’d seek out for tea-based happy times.

drank Coffee Cake by DAVIDsTEA

Hay gurl haaaaay. I didn’t have any milk left in the fridge tonight when I felt like a warm milky bedtime tea… but I DID have some cream. How decadent!

Big fan of Coffee Cake, but I need to slow down on my intake of it—I’m running out, and I still have so many other teas, a lot I haven’t even logged yet! Speaking of, I followed ashleyelizabeth’s lead and added all my teas to my cupboard. All of them. Even the samples. Help, I am overwhelmed. Time to focus on some sipdowns, I reckon!

But for now, bedtime. Sleep-in tomorrow, too!

drank Raspberry Rush by T2

Hot tip: sweet combination of Raspberry Rush and Apple Crumble doesn’t hold up through a third infusion. I guess I’m asking a bit much trying to steep a black tea a third time!

Had a first strong and delicious infusion of this for breakfast, then added a scoop of T2 Apple Crumble for my second infusion… um, YUM.

This is such a wonderful warm hug of a dessert tea. A touch of sweetener in the hazelnut brittle but apart from that it’s a tart baked good in liquid form.

Picked today because I still had a sample kicking around from when T2 had run out of stock and samples were all I could get! But it’s back in stock as of a couple of weeks ago so I’ve got a cheeky unopened box at home now too.

Also picked because I forgot to pack any infusers or steepers in my bag today and Apple Crumble’s got big chunks I can filter out with my teeth ;)

Love the “warm hug” metaphor. I’ve had that feeling from tea before, too.

Yes! I get it from all those nutty/sweet combo teas, like this and DAVIDsTEA’s Forever Nuts… just super cosy snuggly teas.

Translating my ratings, at a glance:

100 — CRITICAL OBSESSION LEVEL REACHED; CAN YOU MARRY TEA!?
95 — this must always be in my pantry. forever.
90 — excellent! you need to try this tea!
85 — very good! you should try this tea!
80-70 — I enjoyed this and will happily drink it again.
65-50 — Fine. Unremarkable.
45-35 — this wasn’t the worst drink ever but I was disappointed; it didn’t live up to my expectations at all.
30-0 — I didn’t enjoy this tea and that makes me sad.

MY TEASTORY:

Grandad got me started young, white (a LOT of white) Irish breakfast with two.

I never strayed far from that until the world of T2 Tea came to Brisbane some years ago, and now I don’t know what I’d do without a pantry full of tea options.

These days I prefer to drink my teas straight without sweetener (though I appreciate some black variations shine better with milk and/or a dash of honey/sugar). I also love a speedy iced tea (hot brewed then poured over ice), and my latest obsession is cold brewing (which doesn’t make a lot of sense, as Australia is headed into winter and I live in the coldest corner of the country, but oh well).

I’d love to make a bunch of tea friends on here, especially those who can talk Aussie teas with me. I’ve recently come back from a jaunt to North America and it was a real hoot to hit up DAVIDsTEA after reading so many reviews! I wish I’d had the chance to get to more stores… but I’m happy with what I got back past customs. See those teas and my local jams in my reviews.

I LOVE:
+ black teas
+ white teas
+ oolongs
+ flavoured versions of all three of the above
+ herbal infusions and fruit tisanes

NOT A FAN:
+ most green teas
+ LICORICE ROOT (my sworn enemy) and aniseed flavours
