Finally with some milk (well, almond & coconut milk) and sugar, whee! Here ‘tis! Definitely getting the edge of rum in here, it shines through stronger than when it’s straight, I think.

I turned the very last of my stock of this into my very first cold brew and it was AWESOME.

A quick hot rinse to wake up the herbal stuff and then 3-4hrs in the fridge was enough to make this delicious. Of course I’ve finally made peace with this blend now that I’ve run out of it!

I’m trying for a second longer steep of this overnight. From all I read of cold brewing it shouldn’t be bitter.

A sad sipdown today as I finish the sample I got from TraceyC in our first swap. Lovely peachy notes to this oolong, one more steep from these last leaves.

Back to an old favourite this morning. I really love this black and unsweetened, but after my milk & sugar run of the last month I kind of want to experiment. (I didn’t, though. Not yet.)

The coconut scent was off the charts when I opened this sample from my swap with Scheherazade so I was pretty stoked to try it.

Nice and creamy. The rooibos comes through in a bit of woodsiness only, but that’s perfectly fine. Had my sample with a bit of almond & coconut milk for breakfast. The more it cools, the more the flavours come out. Nice.

Courtney

Coconut = best

This was a bonus from my swap with Scheherazade! Thanks for the extra treat, Sarah.

I was a little anxious after reading reviews of this tea because I’m no fan of licorice and aniseed! Though I think I may have ended up with some of the bottom of the barrel here, as this was just a mildly spiced rooibos. Delicious with a splash of vanilla soy.

Scheherazade

I’ve never found it heavy on either liquorice or aniseed, personally. I mostly get cinnamon and mild mixed spice!

Memily

Yeah that’s what I got! It was lovely. Maybe they’ve changed the formulation or something?

reviewed DAVIDsTEA Filters by DAVIDsTEA
1024 tasting notes

I haven’t got a lot of experience with customisable teabags but I have to admit these ones are awesome and much better than the ones you can get from T2, the Australian equivalent of DAVIDs. Also cheaper, actually, so I guess I’m missing out on a lot when people say these are expensive!

I prefer to use other brewing methods around the house and I have a timolino when I’m on the run but I have these around as a backup and for guests who aren’t comfortable with tackling loose leaf—putting it in a teabag makes them feel more comfortable. Because they’re weirdos. But I’ll get them in the club soon enough…

Courtney

Because they’re weirdos haha!

Ha, that’s my mother!
She drinks looseleaf, but she prefers it in the bag because it’s easier. And when I went home for spring break, she saw I was kinda tea crazy and made me weigh my teas and prepackage them into 4g bags ahha.

reviewed Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker by Takeya
1024 tasting notes

I have a couple of 2L Takeya iced tea jugs that are sold at T2 in Australia as “T2’s The Jug”.

The original 2L jugs had filters that weren’t nearly long enough for the jug, and to be honest they weren’t quite big enough for fruit tea ingredients to make a full 2L jug either. Thankfully the company seem to have learned quickly from this error and the new jugs come with much longer filters. I’m not sure if T2’s jugs are quite the latest version as the filter in my new jug purchased in December 2013 still doesn’t reach as far down as the one on Takeya’s website shows, but it’s still great and does the job.

I would have been happy with just my black one but I couldn’t resist the beautiful limited edition light blue one and I have to admit having two is excellent over summer. All iced tea all the time.

Translating my ratings, at a glance:

100 — CRITICAL OBSESSION LEVEL REACHED; CAN YOU MARRY TEA!?
95 — this must always be in my pantry. forever.
90 — excellent! you need to try this tea!
85 — very good! you should try this tea!
80-70 — I enjoyed this and will happily drink it again.
65-50 — Fine. Unremarkable.
45-35 — this wasn’t the worst drink ever but I was disappointed; it didn’t live up to my expectations at all.
30-0 — I didn’t enjoy this tea and that makes me sad.

MY TEASTORY:

Grandad got me started young, white (a LOT of white) Irish breakfast with two.

I never strayed far from that until the world of T2 Tea came to Brisbane some years ago, and now I don’t know what I’d do without a pantry full of tea options.

These days I prefer to drink my teas straight without sweetener (though I appreciate some black variations shine better with milk and/or a dash of honey/sugar). I also love a speedy iced tea (hot brewed then poured over ice), and my latest obsession is cold brewing (which doesn’t make a lot of sense, as Australia is headed into winter and I live in the coldest corner of the country, but oh well).

I’d love to make a bunch of tea friends on here, especially those who can talk Aussie teas with me. I’ve recently come back from a jaunt to North America and it was a real hoot to hit up DAVIDsTEA after reading so many reviews! I wish I’d had the chance to get to more stores… but I’m happy with what I got back past customs. See those teas and my local jams in my reviews.

I LOVE:
+ black teas
+ white teas
+ oolongs
+ flavoured versions of all three of the above
+ herbal infusions and fruit tisanes

NOT A FAN:
+ most green teas
+ LICORICE ROOT (my sworn enemy) and aniseed flavours
